My EVGA 1000 T2 arrives today to replace the 4yr old Seasonic Prime SSR-750TD that I suspect caused my system shutdown with 3080 installed.

Uninstalled previous card with DDU, used latest Nvidia driver 456.71, Precision X1 1.1.0.9. and Windows 10 w/ all updates. Card was run stock.

Looks like I am late to the discussion, but a comment from my post talking about my related issue brought me here. My specs are as follows:
 
CPU: Intel i7 10700k
Motherboard: MSI Z490 Unify
GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra
Memory: HyperX Fury 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200 CL16
Storage: 2x(1TB) Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2
             1x(2TB) Barracuda HDD
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750W P2
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black
Fans: (Front Intake) 2x140mm Noctua NF-A14 PWM chromax.black
       (Rear Exhaust) 1x120mm Noctua NF-S12A PWM chromax.black
Case: Fractal Meshify C
 
After a couple of days, while trying to load up SteamVR (possible power transient for the GPU?) my system shut down completely and wouldn't boot up. Read my post for the details if you wish, but I ended up testing the GPU and PSU with my other system and determined the 3080 to be faulted. I just (a few minutes ago) got my RMA 3080 in the mail. I am very hesitant to install it because I am not 100% convinced it was just a bad card. Reading a post like this one makes me question the PSU as well. I just made another post asking about PSU cables, I am worried about every little detail at this point.

 
Just hook it up, install the drivers up and play on.

Saw your score in heaven. My first card was definitely borked I think. Got around 1/4th your score with my first card and can't play Squadrons without it stalling out after a minute or two. Hopefully the new one tomorrow hits hard.

Just to throw my $.02 in here, I'm running a 3900x, 3080 FTW3 Ultra (overclocked to +105/1000 at stock voltages), on an EVGA 750 G3.  No power or stability issues.

So I have a brand new 850 GA, am I screwed if I plug a 3080 ftw ultra in?

 
Well you can try it, but we haven't seen one of them work yet.
 
Worst case the PC shuts down and you will have to get a new PSU.

Seen a lot of them NOT work HERE with the 3080's.
 
Actually most of the ones that aren't working have been GA's.
 
I suggest you send it back and get something else.
 
Like a G3, G5, G2, P2, T2, GQ.
 
Or a Corsair RM or RMX.

Haven't heard on way or the other, on any Seasonic 1300W Platinum PSU.
 
We do know however the OLD Model Non Ultra Prime Ti 750W (Model 750TD) doesn't work.
 
We don't know about the new series Primes, haven't heard anything one way or the other.

I've got a Corsair AX 850 Titanium (which is a rebadged Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium) and it runs my 3080 without a problem.

I've got a Corsair AX 850 Titanium (which is a rebadged Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium) and it runs my 3080 without a problem.

Its actually for 3090FTW and Titan Black as a dedicated gpu for fp64 performance, so between both I think should be OK

Ok. Corsair RM1000x bought. I get it Saturday. I know its overkill, but these shutdowns are killing me. Beyond that, if it keeps happening, I think its a card issue and will have to RMA.

Here's my PC specs
cpu: ryzen 2700 OC'd to 4ghz at 1.36v
cooler: noctua dh-15
gpu: evga ftw3 ultra rtx 3080 OC'd +125 core clock and +500 mem clock (also ran at factory OC settings with issues)
psu: seasonic focus plus gold 80+ 750w ssr-750fx (purchased in 2019)
 
I loaded up a number of games (mainly destiny 2, control and MS Flight Simulator) and was getting horrid frames around 80fps in destiny 2, 60-70fps ultra with RTX on in Control and 20-40fps in MSFS both running at ultra/max 1440p. This seemed bizarre to me because benchmarks i've seen have been in the 200fps range for destiny 2 (with a 10900k of course) and I find it hard to believe I get less than half the frames with a 2700...
 
Anyways, I did have crashes in haven and MSFS but not full PC reboots/black screens like you all have stated the benchmark and game just crashed. I was able to hit 18400 in timespy GPU score and monitored my gpu power draw via hw monitor and saw it pulled up to 390w but typically ranged from 200-350w.
 
I ended up purchasing a 3rd pcie cable because my PSU only came with 2of them so I currently have been using 2 cables for the 3 plugs on the GPU.
 
I'm just trying to understand if my PSU is the problem, or my CPU really is bottlenecking me that hard, any help is much appreciated!

Yes, only been using the 2 cables because this photo

and because my PSU only came with 2 pcie cables so that was my only option, it's the ssr-750fx model. Either way, I will reply back once I have the 3rd cable next week.
