Anyone else get a 3080ti and wish they would have been able to get a 3080 instead?

I got the choice between a 3070ti and 3080ti upgrading from a 1080ti and went 3080ti. I only have a 1080p ultrawide at the moment so it goes mostly under utilized.

Of course I could have gotten a 1440p Ultrawide with what I paid extra for the 3080ti over the 3080.

3080 ti is a waste of money. You should've gone 3070 ti, although a 3080 wouldve been the best value per dollar.
Get yourself a 1440p monitor now or sell your 3080 ti to downgrade if you are  adamant about remaining on 1080p.

Surprisingly, my friend passed on the 3080 ti.  Or maybe his wife decided he was passing on it; I'm not going to ask.

Thinking about this more, I'm not sure what to do.  I'd still prefer a 3080, but then I'm guessing most of us would, and a ti for a higher price is better than no upgrade at all.  I'd do a trade, but as far as I can tell, no one's trading away a 3080 for anything but scalper-level cash.  And at that price, the 3080 ti is actually cheaper.

On the other hand, $1,200 is a lot of money for a graphics card that I'm only using for gaming.

It's definitely a tough call. If you did manage to get a 3080 it's certainly the better value. I have the 3080 Ti and am very happy, but I'm not sure that the difference is especially noticeable except in a few choice applications.

Same pickle I'm in.
3080ftw vs 3080 ti xc3 and waiting on 3080 ti ftw
Got two of the 3

You guys are making great points.

I originally wanted the 3080 FTW. Then I thought the 3090 FTW was so great I had to have it.
Finally came to my senses by going back to my old philosophy, buy the best I can afford that won't cause me financial pain.
So I ended up with the 3080 Ti FTW. Some reviewers say the performance improvement is not justified but it is better.
So $1400 became my red line I would not cross. (Started out at $1000 )
That kept me from buying any other brand which are more overpriced.

The better it is the less likely I'll be tempted when the next generation comes out.
In fact if I'm enjoying the performance like I think I will I would hold off upgrading for a long time.

I would be tempted only if they find a way to keep high performance with less heat.

I have a 3080 FTW and 3080 Ti FTW. Both are pretty comparable on 1080 displays, even ultrawide 1080. Where the 3080 Ti separates from the 3080 is when you move up to 2k and 4k displays. The 3080 Ti does run a lot hotter than the 3080, which makes sense given the hardware under what looks to be the same cooling gear, but it's something to consider if you're using it in a warm environment where it might not get enough cool air to feed on (and adding to the warm environment itself).

Based on some of the reviews it seems like the 3080 Ti performs like a 3090 would with half of its VRAM. I'm sure there will be some titles that use more than 12GB of VRAM in the coming years but I expect we'll have upgraded again by then.

Is the cost difference between the 3080 and 3080 Ti worth it? Maybe, but the use cases for that are narrow, like if you're running VR or 4k displays. Otherwise I think the 3080 is still the sweet spot for price/performance from this generation of GPUs, or at least one that will suit a variety of needs.

Performance vs price just isn't there. 4-10% for alot more money.

Is that still the case though? Gpu.userbenchmark now says it’s a 13% -15% increase over the 3080. Maybe it’s because of updated drivers? Still not worth extra money but performance seems to be increasing over time.

$500 3080 FTW Ultra vs 3080 Ti FTW Ultra

The reviewers keep saying it's not worth it, don't buy it. I arrived too late to get anything else.

Sounds like you found a good way to analyze and decide. The 3080 FTW is clearly the better value.
I recommended the Ti only if the money was not the issue.
I had to find a way to justify it for me because for me the 3080 FTW (my original preference) was unobtainable.
I entered that queue in April.
The queue for the Ti gave me a realistic shot. Newegg Shuffle rejected me daily.

I'm glad for you it's settled. Enjoy your 3080!

They are making an odd comparison by putting a 3080 Ti FE against an AIB 3080 from Gigabyte. It would have been a better comparison to use all FE cards.

I saw 25% better average FPS from the 3080 Ti in MSFS using both cards in the same PC but MSFS is also not a reliable benchmark even when you use static routes for testing. Both cards were awful for Hell Let Loose, my 1080 Ti ran that game better, but apparently that's a thing with that title not optimized for Ampere. This was on a 3840x1600 display. I also tried both on a 1920x1600 display (one of my two peripheral displays) and saw less than 10% FPS difference between them. Again, MSFS so that's why I made the caveat in my previous post about the use cases for justifying the 3080 Ti being narrow.

I would really like to do the same test with VR. Fortunately my brother has nearly the same PC I do (same CPU, same mobo chipset, same primary M2 SSD, same 1920x1600 display, but half the memory) so when I get a VR set I can try it without swapping cards again.

Well in my opinion.. 3080 prices nowadays is already stepping on 1000$ mark.. I would get 3080ti for more vram 12gb and close to 3090 performance.

Now you've done it...be prepared for the summary update format to be revised to account for tenths of a second....

Just kidding...if they cannot clear two seconds of timeline than he shouldn't have tweeted about the drop.

3080 ti is a waste of money. You should've gone 3070 ti, although a 3080 wouldve been the best value per dollar.
Get yourself a 1440p monitor now or sell your 3080 ti to downgrade if you are  adamant about remaining on 1080p.

Oh I definitely agree. I didn't think the 3070ti was a big enough upgrade over the 1080ti, and couldn't get my hands on a 3080. It's a 144hz 1080p ultrawide and runs great, plus monitors are a pain to sell to upgrade since they HUGE.

This zero bearing on gpu queue, but I was notified the 1600W PSU’s are available now. Maybe those of you that are running dual GPU’s need them.

On Saturday I upgrade my EVGA 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING, 10G-P5-3897-KR to the new EVGA 3080 Ti FTW3 ULTRA GAMING, 12G-P5-3967-KR graphics card. I ran 3DMark Time Spy Score before and after. The only thing I did was removed the 3080 and installed the 3080 Ti and did not change any drivers. I did let EVGA Precision X1 to update the bios for the new 3080 TI. I reran Time Spy and I saw about a 7% increase.

Is there some else I need to do to see any additional increase. I did run both cards with the switch in OC position.

EVGA 3080 - Time Spy Score - 15283
EVGA 3080 TI - Time Spy Score -  16345

I'm less than 30 minutes out on the 3897 and feeling ever so impatient but also so excited. My partner is also excited as they are getting my 2070 Super (currently no GPU, just integrated). Soooooon!
