I remember back in 2021.. I'd already been waiting on a 3090 for over half a year.  My eyes were set on a KPE, because if you're going to spend a bit of coin on something, might as well buy the best.  It wasn't just GPUs that were scarce though.  I was really torn on do you buy that if the opportunity arises or get this awesome refrigerator.  Space for miles, especially in the freezer.  Now the practical side says you focus on the essential needs, like keeping food in the house.  But that's not where we were then.  I could order most anything to be delivered daily, but I couldn't really do that with a GPU.  Sure, you can go to AWS or Azure and pay for GPU compute time, but it was terribly inefficient and limited to a degree by your bandwidth.  So I said no way, I don't care about food in the home, just give me that KPE.  I haven't second guessed that ever, but I tell you, those were tough times.  The best approximation I can relate it to is why don't you wake up every morning, give yourself a papercut, then pour salt on it.

I appreciate the sentiment -- believe me I do -- but this journey (from September through to finalizing my watch...whenever that happens to be)...I need to do it without taking a spot from another bona fide gamer/queue member. This is -- no joke -- a story I intend to tell my grandchildren (and, yes, I will embellish 90% of it...the 10% that won't need exaggeration is our levels of frustration and misery). I need to finish this marathon on my own two feet. But, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the thought.  And best of luck tomorrow!

Static.Quai is also part of the 10% that won't need embellishment...he is a principle character in this tale.

Goddamnit. Why are so many 3060’s dropping but nothing on the higher SKU’s? Can the 3897 queue just PLEASE move to 9/22(next day). I’m getting pissed off seeing 3060’s move while everything else remains stagnant. Like ****?!?!

Yes I know I asked this yesterday, but the answer I got is that they want to increase the prices of high margin products, and that doesn’t make sense.

It's about time they raise their prices everyone else has... Plus the more expensive they get the better chance some of use have at getting them unfortunately.

I’m talking about the notify queue. They haven’t done jack**** for the past week for the 3080 or 3090(exception: 8 kingpin cards), but almost daily drops for 3060. There’s not as bad of a silicon shortage if they can move the 3060 queues daily, so why aren’t they paying attention to the higher-margin queues? I’ve been waiting since September 22nd.

Edit: maybe I need a break. Watching the 3897 not move while the 3060 moves is seriously killing me.

Probably. It's not good to come on here everyday and stress over your potential card dropping. You'll end up like some of the other people in here that have kinda gone off the deep-end.

I was literally seconds from 3898 in March and I had to wait 1.5 months to get my card. You think being an hour or day away is hard, imagine those in seconds lol. Hopefully you got something to tide you over until your turn arrives so the wait isn't too horrendous

So these refrigerators.. they have double bottom wide shelves for freezers these days.  It's wild.  Space for miles..

Yes, you have to step back from it.  The 3060s, or specifically, the 3657, have been on a tear.  It's probably not so much more inventory, but much sparser sign-ups after the first hour.  I think there's a lot of sign-ups where people were just like, anything please, then they found something else they wanted more.  Or thought they'd just test their luck with finding another card.  The 3080s have been doing much better than the 3090s over the last month, which is cool I guess.  They're the best value per dollar for gamers at msrp.

It could be harder to source high quality silicon required for highest tier cards.

Maybe they're just using/buying lesser desired silicon due to intl shortages? Bc they could theoretically get more.

Could also have something to do with unloading inventory to make room for new SKU's?

I have also not hit on a 3080 queue. However I have on 3070 and 3060, I love EVGA's overall approach.

Hope you get a card soon!

I've been less than a minute from the 3898 for about that long. I can confirm the feeling. It has caused me to tidy up my email inbox to the best it's been in years.

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/05/05 18:01:18 (permalink)
So at this point, like many, I'm pretty frustrated by the wait. I know EVGA isn't at fault and they are offering something no other company is with the queue. I have been EVGA loyal for years and plan on keeping it that way. But I've become just frustrated enough with the stock issues to consider spending the money on the 3090 Kingpin HC in the near future if I can get on the list early enough. This may not be the place to ask but if anyone has advice or can guide me to the proper forum, what would be the necessary setup to watercool that card. I have always done aircooling and if possible would probably still keep my noctua cpu cooler and just cool the 3090. Is that a viable set up? Am I going to get over my head setting up water cooling? What parts would I need? I know a pump, a radiator, tubing, the liquid itself, and fans.

Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also as a long time lurker thanks enewt for all you do I wish you luck with with HC tomorrow!

Because 3080 isn't "higher-margin queue".
Die size for RTX 3060 is 276.0 sq.mm and MSRP is $329, die size for RTX3080 - 628.4 sq.mm and MSRP is $699. So, sq.mm of die cost: $1.195(RTX 3060) vs $1.114(RTX 3080). Which one more profitable now? Of course we should use chip cost instead of MSRP...
Also you can pack more smaller square chip on round wafer because of less unused space around corners. Also smaller chips - more yeld of good chips.
And finally - more cards can help fill demand quicker. And many of those who will buy cheap card now will upgrade it in future. Double profit.

Just want a card soon because I don’t want the email to happen while I’m on a trip during summer. That would be one of the worst things to ever happen to me.

PS: wendover productions is really interesting. He mostly talks about planes. Also if any of you have a PCVR kit(Quest doesn’t count), buy Payday 2 off steam and get the VR dlc. I played while my 1070 mobile got laggy as all hell, but it’s fun. Other fun VR games:
Pavlov
Half Life: Alyx
Boneworks(only play this if you have a strong stomach :) )

When the KPE HC was delayed "until late December", I started dusting my half-completed rig....

I figured...clean it up, get it ready...you'll be a good little newt ahead of the game. But the good karma I anticipated clearly never arrived....

But tempting fate, I am dusting the rig again tonight. Oh, and having a margaritas with plenty of salt.

Thanks for the kind words. I am not the guy to ask about best waterlogging online retailers...I grabbed my stuff from Aliexpress (and that took awhile to arrive from China)...and I won't know how it performs until I get my GPU in-hand and my rig stood up. Dabadger84 might have some advice.

Best of luck!

It’s easy to set up but be prepared to spend way more than you planned for. Whatever fittings you think you need, double it, get 90 degree and 45 degree fittings that rotate (bought a bunch that didn’t rotate and they all ended up pointing the opposite direction I needed after tightening them down), get extra coolant just in case. It’s easy enough to run the tubing, pressure test, and run the pump for a day before powering everything.

Woot, look at the 3070 ftw3 go!  I am so glad that I have a Microcenter in my city, and I was out of the house near it today, because they had one in stock (as a bundle, bleh, but with parts that made sense and they did a return and rebuy to knock out a part of the bundle out, and all I needed to do was pay for the gpu and the vpn subscription they bundled with it.) and I got the last one!  Nekhtet! (Late Egyptian for victory, can be used as a yay)  I'll still hold on to my spots to help out friends (as a friend of mine recently upgraded most of his PC, but is still running on a 1660) but I won't leave ya'll hanging.  I'll be cheerleading, even as I wait for my funds to replenish to get the copy of windows 10.

I also helped my bro get himself a prebuilt with a ASUS dual 3070 in it, since I spotted it on the way to the register.  He's happily setting it up atm, and I will be working on my new project once the windows 10 usb comes in.  Hopefully when he decides to upgrade the cpu on it, he'll ask me for help to do so.

Be and Do in equal measure.  Yes, that includes being patient on getting the new computer rig completed.

Independent superheroines ftw!

A reservoir/pump combo unit is good for streamlining the process
You can cut some cost and effort by just running Distilled water with biocide added in it which is like 5 or 10 bucks a bottle, which makes at least 1 gallon depending on brand
flexible tubing is easiest to work with, I went with Primochill 3/8 5/8 advanced LRT tubing and its pretty nice stuff, whatever you get make sure to match the tubing with the fittings, there are different sized tubing, with inner diameter and outer diameter being important
Edit-you wont use anywhere near 1 gallon of coolant/fluid at all, I used about a quart and that's with some wasted through trial and error figuring out how to fill the thing lol
also make sure to add a split somewhere at bottom of loop to add a ball valve to make draining the loop for service easy as pie

here is a good vid from Jay on the whole subject actually XD

Suspicions sale of a batch of EVGA cards here. May be something EVGA can look into, someone definitely got his hands on supply chain.

4 card you can easily obtain via queue using addresses of your relatives/friends/coworkers. And you can obtain multiple EVGA cards on one person/address as soon they have different SKUs.

This is where I think you need to dial it back the most.  Stop telling people how to scam the system.  It's not cool.

The thing is, he “works for nVidia” and has 2 kingpins, 1 FTW3 HC, and 4 (or was it 5) 3060 cards, on top of which he’s selling them as a bundle.

And yeah, what SQ said.

Mama said there be dais like dis.

I wonder how much longer we're going to be waiting on eVGA to actually release the higher end Z590 boards... imagine having a CPU launch and having no board out for over a month then no high end boards out longer than that... that is one thing I will knock eVGA on for sure, whoever's running their motherboard R&D/production department needs to slap some people in to shape.  I'm not someone that's going to be getting one because I like the setup I'm on now, but it's utterly ridiculous that literally every other major motherboard maker as their Apex/mid-range etc Z590 boards out already but eVGA is like "HERE'S AN OOGLAY MID TIER A MONTH LATE BOIZ & GRILZ"

Back on topic, no one's taking the under line on my guestimation of at least 5 KP HC cards showing up on EBay in the next 5 days after tomorrow?

Judging by the quoted posts I've seen from him (not you), I think my choice to block him early on when he was constantly attacking everyone instead of posting anything useful was a wise decision.  He's literally one of two people I have blocked on these forums, the other one hasn't been around as far as I know, in months (thank fork).
