I'm just amazed that Nvidia rolled this out the way they did. A company like that had to know the demand going into launch, they have marketing/analytical departments specifically designed to do market research to gauge this stuff FFS. I know there is the COVID issue, but still. There was a huge lack of foresight on the demand or just a desperate need to bring in some sort of consistent revenue for this line of cards starting in September even though they knew their supply was going to be limited.
Hard to predict that the crypto craze would hit again. Ethereum at $1100+ makes it profitable for a lot of people to buy even insanely overpriced 3090s. *sigh* Now for AMD, it should have been possible to predict that the PS5&XBOX launches would chew through inventory. Their paper launch is just shameful and their PR guy should be fired. Preferably out of a cannon.

This does not surprise me. NVIDA knew this before launch but as much as they talk is all PR BS. Actions always speak louder then words. Truth is stock holders don't care who buys the product they just care about the return on investments. If they cared about the consumer for gaming graphics cards they would have done something more to limit the amount of bots that purchased products. And to be honest this is a small amount of the larger company and though it is profitable is not the only thing that keeps them in business. If I was a larger share holder I would be disappointed that they launched the product at such a low price. Given the current market demand they could have made way more on the cards and could have charged what the scalpers are charging and made all that money driving up their stocks. As a consumer I will be glad because they could have and should have drove up the prices long ago but did not. So I can still get the product at some point in time for less then could be spent on it.

Have not seen an active "add to cart" since launch, have never seen any retailer that had any in stock even briefly. Unlucky, and have a job where I cannot have my phone out at all while working. 4 Frickin months, never seen stock. To me the 30 series is just a myth.
I've seen add to cart on the 3080 XC3 ONCE on Best Buy's site, but I'm picky and have a 1080 Strix that's working fine and really want the FTW3. I've also seen the Nvidia FE's available on Best Buy, but for the same reasons I skipped. I want to get myself into EVGA's ecosystem. Been a long time fan of the customer service (albeit a few slip ups) and I always recommend them. Plus the FTW3 is a really nice looking card. Might get a vertical mount for it if I ever get one. Like I said, I'm not holding my breath. By the time I come up in the queue, the 4xxx series will be announced haha. Either way, my 1080 is doing pretty decently for 1440p gaming. I'm just ready for an RTX card and sizeable upgrade.
I don't doubt you, as many others have said the same, but that is crazy to me. I dunno how you folks are even getting lucky enough to even SEE a card for sale... period. I have yet in 4 months of F5-camping 6 different online retailers for a minimum of an hour, some days 2 hours (spread throughout the day) only skipping maybe 8 days total in that whole time, at the re-stock times as reported by others, and I have yet to see any brand of RTX 3080, or 3070 anywhere at anytime. Luckily I had the funds to buy an EVGA RTX 2080 card back in October 2018, so I do not have quite the need that some of you do, but it sure would be nice to be able to use my hard earned cash on what I want, when I want it again like the "good ol' days" lol. Anyway... best of luck to everyone still hunting (at least as much as I am) only to turn up nothing. I definitely share your pain.

That's dumb. What kind of logic is wanting to buy a product for more money. I think the prices were just right.
Even if the prices was higher there would still be a shortage.
People would still buy them for personal use and to scalp.

Fry's was my go to store back when I lived in Dallas (I moved to Alaska 20 years ago) I haven't been down to visit the in-laws in a few years, so I haven't made a Fry's trip lately (they all like coming here in the summer for some reason) but it makes me sad to hear that it has declined so much over the past few years. I still have a K6-2/500 mhz processor i picked up at fry's way cheaper than anywhere else in my outdated processor pile...

I was told that they did it on purpose because they don't want people lingering in the store during the pandemic. They also don't want too many employees milling about and infecting each other. They encourage customers to order items online and pick them up, or have them shipped. I stopped by a Frys near my house to pick up some CAT6 cable a few weeks back. It looks like they have a few more items on the shelves than they did at the start of the pandemic, but it's not stuff that's going to attract the gaze deadbeats who are not there to buy anything. Small tools, repair items, etc.

Sadly, even if you see a card available on Best Buy's website like I did, you don't necessarily get to buy it (not saying you didn't know this, just sharing the info for anyone who doesn't). They enter you into a queue and then you wait for them to release inventory. How their queue works beyond that, I have no idea. I did enter the queue for the 3080 FE one of those times out of curiosity, and didn't make it to checkout due to the item no longer having availability. So even there it's a bit of a pipe dream that you catch it before everyone else does. All around, the shortage is terrible for consumers who actually want to use the cards (like us). EnigmicAzn
