@ eVGA - may I please have a status update regarding the 3080 XC3 gaming line? Since launch day I think this card has moved the least. I’ve been in line since 09/16 @ 12:14pm, please be thoughtful of others any update is better than nothing at this point. I feel like a donkey chasing the carrot tied to my head.

My 3080 will show up in the queue within the step-up window of release timing for the 4080, then I can step up to the 4080. And while I wait for a year after that for the 4080 to become available for me to step up to, I'll still have the 3080 to play on. Then by the time I'm called on to send my 3080 in to claim my step-up 4080, they can announce the 5080, and I can continue the cycle almost indefinitely. The new market economy is going to be beneficial, even if it does always leave me a generation behind.

YaroKasear My 3090 arrived today. I'm not off the queue yet as my new power supply is not here. What's the worst that happens if I use my current PSU? My machine shuts off? Or would my card possibly be damaged?
PSU will most probably trip and shutdown the system.
You could heavily undervolt to archive some stability. Thats is what I did. I managed to underclock my ULTRA FTW3 to 875mV to archive 1750Mhz (similar to founder's). No crashes anymore. I played a bit of Control with everything on and long gaming with World of Warships (load between 480 to 620Watts from the wall, no more spikes that caused my PSU to trip) *edit* your 750 platinum is from seasonic?
It's an EVGA SuperNova 750P2. I know EVGA often sources their power supplies from SeaSonic, though.

Is your current PSU a 750, 850, 1000W...? How old is it? I would not risk my GPU unless I had confidence in the PSU. Also, when your new PSU does arrive you have to switch out the power cables too -- don't mix and match from one PSU to another PSU when it comes to the cables. Best of luck!
It's a 4+ year old 750W Platinum PSU.
That's a tough call. If you had a 3080, I might consider it. But with a 3090, I'd wait. How long until your new PSU arrives?
Sunday according to Amazon, unfortunately. I get to stare at my 3090 box for three whole days before I get to play with it.
Since the 750w you have is platinum, I'd give it a go. Typically if the unit can't supply enough power, it will just shut the system down. All the horror stories you see about power supplies frying and taking out a whole system are generally bad supplies. IE, it's not because someone overloaded it, just because the components fried. Now with that said, if the system does run fine with the 750w, then it's putting a heavy load on the PS at the top of it's design rating, so it would probably affect the life of the PS. That of course doesn't really matter if you have another PS coming 3 days later.
Fortunately I have several hours to decide since I'm working right now.
I wouldn't worry. Quality PSUs are made to fail safe, that is, to fail without power surges that fry other components. Any PSU that is rated Bronze or higher should be fine. While the Platinum rating refers to power efficiency, any PSU with a metal rating (bronze, gold, etc.) has to have quality protection built in. A Platinum PSU, being a top quality PSU, will usually have exceptional protection as well as exceptional power efficiency. 750 w should be sufficient to run your GPU card. To be sure, check the power draw specs on your GPU and CPU, add them together, and allow a little more for your other components (DRAM, storage, etc.) and you should be fine. While I would NOT run the system if your draw is more than 750w, even then, the worst likely to happen is that the PSU will shut down without damaging itself or other components. Enjoy!

jbaysingar A hypothetical query just for fun... Which notification do people think I'd most likely get first? Rumored 3080 TI queued on day one if/when it becomes available or 3080 FTW3 Ultra queued on 11/29
Depends on how early you are on the queue for the 3080ti... If you get on the notify list with in the first minute or two, most definitely the 3080ti
Exactly, however getting in is the problem. For example I (like many others) was ready to jump in when they opened up the last 3898 hybrid queue in December. Even though I was right there trying to get in I was one of many and I was unable to get a signup through until 9:09 because the website was unresponsive for me until then due to the overload of folks trying to sign up. So a 3080 hybrid card is pretty "obscure" by comparison to the overwhelming crush that will be 3080ti. So not saying that you couldn't manage to get in during the first minute or so of 3080ti signup but just because you're there ready to go clicking away doesn't mean it's going to happen.
The server will usually bog down if it's a popular card. I got in a queue for a 3978 back in December, got a 9:00:40 time stamp, and got a buy email a little over an hour later. The queue opened at 9:00:20, so it was pretty near the front. I turned it down, btw. The 3898 was another story. Scalpers were all over that one and the server was bogged down. I also made a mistake in the process and ended up with the time stamp you see below. Most people did better than me and someone here saved me by posting a direct link. Otherwise, it would have been even worse. I'm probably going to pass on this card and get a 3080ti. I already passed on the 3978 and 3897. I could have had either one of them in hand last month. I might as well just wait for the card that I really want and hope that the high price tag will deter scalpers. They seem to be laying off the 3900's 3090's. The cards that I have seen being scalped online are netting the seller cost after fees. Nobody is making money on those. They are too expensive.

evgaboyd Here's an even more interesting question: Will I get the 3080 FTW3 Ultra first or Will I get the 3080TI first with a hopefully early notify or Will this thread get to page 1000 These are the important questions we need to answer.
Any good tips on an approximate EVGA sign up date for the 3080ti? I loved the heck out of my 1080ti hybrid, and clearly sold it wayyyyyy toooooo sooooooon.

Just a reminder to everyone, when using an Associate's Code or Affiliate's/Rewards Code, please make sure you register your card AND upload your invoice from the eVGA Order page. If you do not do that, the person won't get their eVGA Bucks. Got a notification today that someone didn't do that for one of mine so thought I'd share the information. Also don't forget if you need a PSU or CPU cooler, Associate's Codes give you 10% off of those on the site.

I have it installed. No complaints from Linux yet (First boot I didn't get any display, I think things were trying to go through my VR.) but I haven't booted from Windows nor have I tried putting any sort of load on the card.

Thing so far is running flawlessly, I haven't even found ways to full stress it yet, even some of my old machine learning work was done in almost real time. Hopefully my spots, from September and October will go to someone else who needs/wants a card now

I assume you probably don't have the answer to this, but I am wondering if that is due to the speed at which people are buying the cards? Or the sheer amount of people signed up? Does it usually go at that cadence?

id wait til you have the card in hand before leaving the queue.
I did, I am using it currently, took 3 days to get here, just got it registered today and have been testing it out. Thing so far is running flawlessly, I haven't even found ways to full stress it yet, even some of my old machine learning work was done in almost real time. Hopefully my spots, from September and October will go to someone else who needs/wants a card now
Check your pm's. I got a question about the Nvidia discord.

Dabadger84 Just a reminder to everyone, when using an Associate's Code or Affiliate's/Rewards Code, please make sure you register your card AND upload your invoice from the eVGA Order page. If you do not do that, the person won't get their eVGA Bucks. Got a notification today that someone didn't do that for one of mine so thought I'd share the information. Also don't forget if you need a PSU or CPU cooler, Associate's Codes give you 10% off of those on the site.
Good to know

Dr.David Any real movement today?
Every little bit counts...but the movement on each of the four queues that moved today was measured in seconds or minutes...nothing moved more than an hour. I'll have an update later tonight after I do my regular check of other online sources.
I assume you probably don't have the answer to this, but I am wondering if that is due to the speed at which people are buying the cards? Or the sheer amount of people signed up? Does it usually go at that cadence?
It's the sheer amount of people who signed up, but more so heavily dependent on manufacturing volume. This week seems to be fewer cards going out than some of the weeks we saw late Nov/Dec.
