Looks like Ebay has culled out the Paper cards that were so pervasive earlier. but numbers are steady in the 50-60s for 3080s and going for 2550

All legit concerns and things i've considered.
Just had a nice long talk with the seller. He's legit. He is a scalper, but flips them for 300 over retail only as he realized he can sell more, and more quickly that way than over charging.
Has receipts for purchase for all cards.
Was telling me he's fighting ebay over someone trying to say he never mailed the gpu when he has verification by ups it was signed for at the address be buyer even.
Be meeting in the middle of the day 1-3 pm tomorrow, should i go through with it.
dont see why not everyone was screaming dont buy dont buy i bought a 3080 about 3weeks in used it till i goy my 3090
here 2 weeks ago and sold the 3080 for 1200 exactly what i paid.im sure alot of those screaming dont buy would now
gladly pay the extra 300.
Kept talking with the guy through the afternoon and it's arranged, he's holding the card for me and by this time tomorrow I should be well into using it. Will report back to share either my joy or anguish. 300 over MSRP (well, 200 on a FE 3090, technically) is what I was willing to pay having to go this route, so it works out for me. A 3090 is a bit overkill for my needs currently but that can change very quickly, and it's the cooler design I wanted too. They just look awesome. Could flip my 2060 for 700.00 afterward easy, or throw it back in my old rig and get 1200+ for the whole thing. I think I'll be hanging onto it and hooking it up as a spare machine for guests to use for LAN/online gaming together while here.

kinda thought the 3090 was overkill as well.till i hooked it up,and coming from the 3080 i was still blown away its worth every penny to me.much better than the 3080.its like when you went from 60hz to 144hz.enjoy the Beast (thats what i call mine...lol) set it and forget it !!!!

Oh, there will be no trading down or anything.
It may be overkill now, next year though it could be the GPU needed for quality performance while everything else with 12GB VRAM or less is left behind.
I doubt that's the case though (unless suddenly there's an Ubisoft game I absolutely must play, but I doubt that too.)
If anything it just means I get to hold out a little longer on replacing it.
I'm debating seeing if I can save enough for the 3080's/3070's I'm in queue here for before I get my notification to buy (given the low priority this queue is for EVGA, I'm farily certain that at 100.00 set aside every two weeks I could have a grand ready to go again before I get my 10/6 notify on the FTW 3 Ultra 3080.)
While I appreciate their attempt at making us feel like they're looking out for us, the truth of it is that we really don't matter to them. If we did they would have been sure to allocate stock to this queue as well as their retail partners equally.
Instead it's obvious retail and direct bulk sales are their priority (which makes sense business wise), with any 'extra' going to RMA, Step Up, then anything that's left over, here.
I'm glad it's worked out for some.
Most here will never see the GPU they wanted, as it'll either never be made (which, IMO, should bump them to the next slot in line for the next GPU up the tier at no additional cost, as the manufacturer promised you can reserve a spot for this card, and has now failed to produce any after 6 months.), or they'll just give up, the 4000 series will launch, or they'll do the same as me and just get tired of it and luck out on finding someone local with one willing to sell it at near MSRP.
If I'm coming off frustrated or anything, there's good reason, and everyone sitting on this page daily, watching enewts list updates (seriously dude, you are MVP! I may stick around and get that 3080 just to use your assoc code still.) has every right to feel the same way, especially given the blatent lack of communication about anything going on with this system.
What, HC drops were supposed to happen last week. Now they're delayed again. Taking bets that they get shipped 'in a couple weeks' again?
LTT is getting how many of these to sell to their so called 'verified gamers' as well. Those are GPUs that should have been sent here for those waiting for 6 months to purchase. Not some YouTube tech channel.
Sorry for the wall of text.
It's just been.... stupid, absolutely stupid how this has all gone.

This is insane. I feel for anyone that is just minutes away from a card that they've been signed up for months for. The closest I am is 13 days from a 3060, and they may as well be 8 months or so real time.
Stuck with an overpriced vanilla 1660 for the foreseeable future!

LOL, if I were able to get out of work today and not have to have my spouse go instead, I may have had the chance to meet another forum member from the area here.
Someone else here has managed to find the same guy in my area and messaged me saying they're in contact about another brand 3090 with the same seller.
It'd be funny if it weren't so sad that this is the only way to get one of these GPU's

I've never heard anyone spin a scalper as "trying to help others out". You've got blinders on in your desperation lol. I've secured plenty of cards for multiple friends and family, and gave one away on forums at cost. That's what you do to help people.
