Received a pretty funny reply from EVGA In regards to cards not pulling even close to their max power limits while saying "power cap". Primarily most people are finding the 3rd pcie port won't pull more than roughly 70w (varies per card)

I emailed to help and make them aware. I provided screenshots of my card only pulling 380w on a 450w bios, I provided screenshots of gpuz showing power limit being activated at 380w (450w bios) and the pcie 3 port at 68w...

I mentioned it's under an EKWB waterblock and 560w rad so thermals aren't an issue....and suddenly my waterblock was the scapegoat...

Come on EVGA. You can at least acknowledge the issue and a simple generic reply of "We have recently been made aware and are looking into the issue" would be better than this...

"Dear Customer,

Regarding to your problem, please note that our graphics cards are designed to be compatible with other brand's waterblock. Since it might have the problem of not applying correctly or component compatibility problem, the performance will also be affected.
Thank you for your understanding.

Regards,
EVGA"

Way to avoid the fact that most other EVGA air cooled cards can't hit their power limit too.

This is the response I received from EVGA:
"Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your graphics card. These connectors will not require an even amount of power as these connectors power different components on the GPU. This is normal behavior for your card and will have no affect on the lifespan of your card.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Yeah, I don't have a warm and fuzzy with that response from EVGA really. I'm a bit OCD and like things even and when I noticed this, I cannot now not notice it and it drives me crazy. I personally don't think it is affecting my performance as I can overclock it to 2115mhz and I've only played with bumping the memory up to 7202mhz so far and it runs great. Oh I forgot to mention this is with a 3070 FTW3.

I agree. I starting typing a reply that it was doing it on stock cooler before watercooling...then decided what's the point and didn't send reply lol

Researched entities that deal with consumer electronics recalls and I am only finding stuff that deals with safety. If we can find such an entity maybe we can get enough complaints in that EVGA is forced to come clean and fix the issue. Has anyone reached out to the techtubers and let them know what's going on?

No chance this would end in a recall.

I haven't. The only 1 who would care and maybe be interested in doing some testing would be Steve from gamers nexus

True, Steve would be a good fit for this. Jayz2cents would be too afraid to tarnish his relationship with EVGA.

Try and make him aware of the issue. I'd love to see him make a video about it and make it a known issue so maybe EVGA will do something about it.

I don't know if you have seen this but the power delivery issues on the EVGA FTW3 3080/3090 cards is crazy. These things are dropping like flies. Especially in certain games such as Halo MCC. The irregularities in power draw between the cables is insane. These things also regularly pull more than the 75watt standard from the PCIe slot. If enough people contact you about this we would love to have you test this out and bring it out in the limelight.

Nice hopefully he will read this. We should probably tell him it's being talked about here on the EVGA forums so he will know it's a widespread issue. If enough people say something maybe something will happen. It just sucks to have spent so much on this card only for it to be like this

Re: EVGA's response to my enquiry on the pcie power issues 2021/02/23 16:57:27 (permalink)
The issue with getting eVGA to officially respond & acknowledge that this is a problem with their cards will be it doesn't happen with ALL of them, just a fair lot of the people posting on these forums with 3090 FTW3 variants have this issue both on the stock BIOS & the "500W" Beta BIOS.
I've also went over this with eVGA through Customer Service emails when I had a 3090 FTW3 Hybrid & they said this was not something I could RMA the card for - for which I got called a "blatant liar" by another member, which I found to be hilarious when I'm just relaying information CS gave me as a reply.

At the end of the day, unless the card is performing significantly worse than others, aka "acting faulty", drawing insufficient power or hitting more than "power spec" on the PCIe slot (which is a misnomer, 75W is just the spec provided by the slot makers, the slot can handle much more than that, especially if your motherboard has additional PCIe power via something like a 6-pin PCIe power connector like a lot of eVGA boards do) - none of that behavior is something that would result in a recall, because it's not "dangerous".

Which is exactly why I'm on a Kingpin now that doesn't have "power" issues, at least not like the Hybrid FTW3 did; on that thing I saw Power Limit as low as 420W load at times in games, on the "500W" BIOS that doesn't work properly seemingly 90% of the time.

It's not dangerous but it's not up to par for a top of the line product or even an entry level product. It'd be great if someone like Steve would be able to get to the bottom of it and expose it.

All 3 of the FTW3 Ultra 3080's I have had here didn't have the problem, all 3 were easily pulling 450W.

Just saying the OP said with the bios flash he was only showing 380W power limit in GPUZ bios check, something is going on there, like maybe the bios flash didn't take perhaps. It's not going to to pull 450W when it's only showing a 380W power limit.

    Or a bad BIOS flash.

If it's showing a 380W power limit in the Bios as read by GPUz then the flash didn't take.

There is just no way it will pull more than 380W unless the flash takes.

I have re-worded that section of the original post to make it clearer now. I can see the misunderstanding.

Gpuz shows 450w bios limit under advanced. It's saying performance cap is because of power limit at 380w .

Trust me. Bios has taken correctly. Have even switched back and forth on bios switch and confirmed non of switch says stock power limit and OC switch says 450w

All you need to know is the problem is real. Some cards just can't pull 450W even with the XOC BIOS flashed correctly.
