Thanks, I was hoping that wasn't the case, I was hoping EVGA pulled it off unlike the others with at least Windows 8.1 drivers. I know we could do it with the Z370, but I heard the thermals were really bad from every manufacturer that was tried with a 9900K. Oh well, my X99 continues to live for another generation or so before I switch completely to Linux and will jail Windows 7/8 within Linux with IOMMU support, then I won't have to deal with this Nadella nonsense anymore (currently running Windows 7 w/6850K with a VM with Centos.) Might as well wait for Ryzen Matisse or Vermeer on the AMD side at this point. bcavnaugh
Looking at other Non-EVGA Z390 Motherboards they all show only support for Windows 10.

There is a Thread that told the OP to install the Z270 Drivers for Windows 8.1 I just build another X99 Rig, still a good Motherboard.

Thanks, I really appreciate your help on this, I'll take a look at that. I love my X99 / 6850K; I really wanted a 8 Core BE, like the 6900K (or more), but it was way too much for $1K just for a CPU. Long story short....I bought a Ryzen 1800X/GB Aurous X370 K7 something (to replace my SB 2600), but it had major problems like a boot loop which required a cmos battery pull when it failed to start (not a Ryzen issue, it was GB's, even till this day I think it's still an issue with that board) back in 2017, then Micro Center had a really good sale on the 6800K and 6850K, so I bought two (one as a backup) for $299 each (MC first had the 6800K on sale, then the 6850K for the same price a couple of weeks later) and got the Gigabyte UD3P-X99 on sale for $100 first from MC, then $50 at Newegg with a free Rosewill Case, powered by EVGA's 750 G3 PSU's and one 1070/1080 EVGA video cards -- the systems work great. Anyways, the 6900K is still priced bananas. I'm open to Intel or AMD at this point, but I really need Windows 8.1 to run (or 7) so it looks like I may just go with Ryzen and a Taichi or TR/Taichi combo which still has Win7/8 drivers since the USB part I believe is ASMedia, unlike what Intel did with the Z390 USB support from what I read. I don't care for Windows updates, it would be controlled box on a vlan segment with internet access only when needed, router level enabled. I need it for certain software and older games to run on it. Linux works very well in a VM, so I wouldn't mind Windows 8.1 as the host and Centos as the guest, but due to what Nadella is doing, I have zero interest in anything Microsoft related since Ballmer left, so it looks like that's that if that doesn't work what you mentioned -- full linux with a windows jailed and an AMD build. I bet they're testing it. That or they're testing the waters to see how many people auto notify, or they're just teasing us. Would be awesome if someone with Twitter posted to Jacob asking. EDIT: You were able to access the Spec Sheet last night when they put the product page up for a few moments but as soon as they took the page down, spec sheet wasn't available. Looks like the Spec Sheet is still available to view even though the product page is down, hopefully that's a sign.

Twice. Once late last night, another this morning. That plus the spec sheet is now available to view, and Jacob's twitter post about the "imminent release". It's gotta be soon.

What are motherboard manf. smoking lately, $499? I bought my x299 OC Formula brand new day 1 for $419. Why does a z390 board cost more with two less dimm slots, potentially less circuitry/wiring for slots/socket, and likely a similar quality/cost vrm setup... Pretty crazy considering the msrp for the z390 FTW is less than half that cost.
