In JayzTwoCents unboxing video there is a warning card in the box that says that only nvidia's power dongle can be used with Nvidia FE cards, and 3rd party dongles may void the warranty. So wouldn't EVGA's cable void the warranty? It is at the 3:50 mark in his video.

They are likely referring to any adapter that doesn't use two dedicated 8 pin cables or doesn't conform to nvidia's standard for wire gauge. EVGA's cable goes directly to the PSU so is not an adapter at all but a dedicated cable. So I would hope cables such as those would be okay.

Nvidia also has no way of telling if a third-party adapter is used unless it is actually defective and destroys the card.

When talking about third-party adapters, I feel like there is more of a risk of cooking the cabling than damaging the card. Obviously, EVGA is a reputable brand and uses the appropriate materials, but if a manufacturer were to use cheaper, smaller gauge wire, wouldn't this limit power delivery and *possibly* heat up the wires, depending on the current the specific gauge of wire is capable of handling?

Also, there's definitely no way NVIDIA can detect the kind of adapter itself, though I wouldn't risk buying this sort of component from anywhere other than a manufacturer. Even Amazon purchases can come from companies/locations other than the manufacturer, so you could end up with a lower-quality cable and risk damaging your system.

I just hope I can get my hands on one of these!

On Twitter they said will be in stock on 9/17 so maybe just a placeholder? Anyway, $40 a bit steep but I guess if you're spending $800 on a graphics card another $40 doesn't matter much.

To be fair, though, it's $40 to replace the ugly NVIDIA adapter. This eliminates a potential point of failure while also helping you keep cleaner cable management. Sounds worth it to me.

Yeah, perhaps. I think I paid $120 for my power supply so in comparison $40 for a single cable seems high, but not so much if I look at it like an early adopter fee. Allegedly Seasonic is providing a free one if you can prove you have a Seasonic power supply and an FE card, maybe EVGA will do that for verified owners at some point? Of course, getting an FE card in the first place might prove challenging so we shall see.

$40 is a ripoff for only one cable guys, c'mon, use your common sense a little. You can buy a whole cable set for that price.

Meanwhile, Seasonic provides them free for those customers who can prove their purchase of RTX 3000 series and PSU.

I hoped EVGA would offer something like that, but nope.

EVGA should offer this free for owners with proof of purchase of their PSUs. Less than a month ago I purchased their 1000w G3 now I gotta spend another $40 for a cable???

$39.99?? what a joke! I just bought a 850 BQ for $109 and now they wanna charge me almost half of the PSU for a SINGLE cable? This is first and last time I buy anything from EVGA. WOW!

Even when considering the price of a new 30-series card, $40 for a cable is about as good value as $999 for a monitor stand.

Wait until you get sales tax and shipping added on top.

Still better than NVidia's solution (even if theirs is free with the card), and don't forget, the 12-pin connector is only going to be used on the top 3090 cards from EVGA afaik, so if you're going to shell out ~$1,500 for the card (or more for AiO / KP editions), suddenly $40 for the cable doesn't seem like such a big deal, relatively speaking. Most of the EVGA cards appear to be using 2 or 3 x 8-pin connectors so this shouldn't be a concern for most.

'Eh, considering what Seasonic is doing, and EVGA has offered similar things in the past free of charge...perhaps a middle ground? 850w and up on gold/platinum/titanium qualified?

I'd want to say Platinum/Titanium owners should automatically get one of these for free considering the costs alone and support towards EVGA. Of course, proof/registration etc required.

How about you offer a standard-ass black cable without fancy sleeving that matches the stock PSU cables for a reasonable price instead of trying to gouge your customers? Some of us paid handsomely for 1000+w titanium/platinum EVGA PSUs and charging us 40 dollars for a cable is a huge slap in the face considering what Seasonic is doing.

It is a shame to see a company that has built their reputation by being respectful to customers pull something like this. Lesson learned; after only buying EVGA PSUs and GPUs for over a decade I'll be looking elsewhere this generation and moving forward.

I would absolutely use the ugly included adapter for a week or month while waiting on my free Seasonic cable if I had bought my PSU from a reasonable company that wasn't looking to gouge their customers like EVGA.

BWAHAHAHA seriously? You've been buying EVGA gear for over a decade and therefore are well aware of their quality and service levels, but you're going elsewhere because of a $40 cable that you may not even need? Yeah ok, good luck with that.

If someone is getting their cable for free, why would they care about a different black cable that does the same thing? The included adapter works out of the box and EVGA's offers not much extra since it only comes in black as well. It's just sleeved with cable combs. I'd rather pay $40 for something that at least matches my color scheme considering the sleeved cables are mainly for aesthetics. EVGA should have just done a basic black cable and offered it for a lot less. Then people with the mod bug can sleeve the cables with their own colors.

Agreed, the $40 cable is not really a problem since other indy-sleeved cables are also $40. But it is beyond me why they don't provide a standard $6 cable that matches the stock cables.

Yes, being dollar'ed - not nickel and dimed - pushed me towards Seasonic PSUs when EVGA has the balls to sell a cable for $40.

I think i'll put my EVGA PSU's up for sale then. And buy a Seasonic. 40$ is 1/3 of the cost of a new 750W PSU (nvidia recommended)
