Would really like to see a regular non-sleeved option. $40 is too steep to be your entry level cable here. Corsair and Seasonic are giving a basic non-sleeved cable away with proof of 3080 purchase, Noctua does the same thing for their mount kits for their coolers. This is an expected level of service for premium products, EVGA is falling behind by not giving a basic cable away let alone trying to charge $40 for it.

What we need is an adapter. x2 8 pin to 12pin micro. That way we can continue using our custom cables. I'll wait until a company offers that. I might just say screw it and get the terminals and connector to make my own cables work.

I bought the EVGA cable just until custom cable makers come out with a dedicated product like this one but with custom color options. I tried to re-sleeve the EVGA cable to match but my sleeve material is too wide to work on the 12 pin end.

The EVGA cable does go directly to the PSU. You don't just use two existing 8 pins like you would with nvidia's included adapter.
