An SSD would, like for most others, allow me to store my operating system and programs on it which, in turn, would grant increased file read/write times.  Windows would boot so much faster along with everything else.

I multi-task quite a bit so I'm also opening and closing many different programs, as well as act as a storage server for the small network I have at home where my brothers transfer files to and from my system as needed.  The increased speeds from the SSD would allow me to continue to use my computer for the different tasks at hand without any degradation in performance when someone else is reading from or writing to my disks.

It would allow me to get onto eVGA's TF2 servers faster so I can kill some more Demomen.  It would also increase my Windows Experience Index score allowing me to get more out of the rest of my computer since the mechanical drives I use now are the bottlenecks of my PC's performance.

I want an SSD mostly because that score on my windows experience index is lower than anything else, and it's really important that I raise it.  Because windows experience index is serious business.

Oh and faster loading games + faster loading pc would be nice, but that's just an afterthought.

I'm not sure if it's worth reinstalling my OS on a relatively blazingly fast hard drive though! Harhar.

I spend a great deal of time benching and overclocking my systems.  While using EVGA eLeet for my overclocking tests is a great mechanism to find the right voltages and settings most of the time spent wasted is during reboots and trying to get in and out of the bios to keep those settings. Decreased booting times would make the whole overclocking experience just that much more appealing for me.

Multi-tasking operations is another appealing aspect of owning a Kingston SSD Now.  I often have several programs running while I surf the EVGA forums.  Being able to do it faster and with ease will put a smile on my face.

I'll take two please; I don't care what color they are...

I'd use an ssd to improve boot time (which is pretty slow on this system due to raid card initialization). Also, I'd like to place the Photoshop CS4 workspace on an SSD if space permits.

Another option may be to move my web server's source files to the ssd due to the high number of random concurrent reads; the low latency would likely be a significant improvement.

(sorry for my bad english, I do my best)

So, I'm trying to upgrade step-by-step my actual setup but I have some financial restriction (as everybody). I have just upgrade my old AMD 3500+ to a new Core i5 with an eVGA P55 and it roxxs but my harddrive didn't let me use these build at is fuly potentiel because it is too low :(
I think that a SSD can cure all of these an adding a news graphic card later gave me the perfect build. I'm still in DX9C begin to be old :D

Well, what can I say?

I have no room to put a second hdd in my system and still having it look clean!
My homemade watercooling, and the fact that it's a G5 case that I modded, makes it impossible for an extra standard drive to be put in.

A SSD would greatly improve performance, and wouldn't give away heat, which would make it perfect for my system!

What wouldn't I like to load on an SSD? Ultra-fast read/write times compared to mechanical drives pretty much necessitate installing the OS to it, leaving around 40g free... I'd have to switch around whatever game I was playing at the time so it's loading from the SSD for split-second loading screens, and I could also get visual studio to read from it, shortening I/O times that are inevitably the bottleneck of my programs.

Oh, and I really need to get my WEI score above the 5.3 that my stupid hard drive is limiting it to!

An ssd drive, will allow me to say shut the f up to those who try to kill me, in games like crysis and what not. It will allow me, to smoke them in my mist. Also, it would allow my EVGA powered gaming machine to it's limits, right before it breaks. Right now i have a 1TB sata hard drive by samsung, gaming is a bit slow.

processor: core i7 860 w/ stock heatsink.
Ram: 6GB Patriot Viper Series DDR3
mobo: EVGA p55 sli

Pw: Asus Trupower 1000w power supply
DVD: 2 dvd burners.
monitor: Dell 21.5 or a 22.5 inch widescreen
Video card: Bfg 9800 GTX+ w/ 1gb ram.

I have been thinking about making the jump to a SSD ever since they have started to become a lot quicker than traditional HDD,with the introduction Intels' drives and ocz with indilinx controllers and solving the problem of stuttering that everyone was seeing with the first micron controllers,BUT the only thing that has put me off is the current price per GB.If I was to receive one of these it would solve my conundrum! No longer have to wait so long for pc to boot up!load times been levels decreased! After all life to short to be spent waiting! Also better for benching my pc,the list of benefits go on...

I want an SSD because it requires much less power from my power supply, makes no noise, will be faster then my raid 0 array, and will allow my rig to perform to its full potential. For years hard drives have been holding us back, now we are able to have amazing loading times YAY!  oh yeah and SSD`s last for decades!

so if i join a game 2 min faster then with a normal hard drive i can get more hours of gaming and LOTS MORE HEADSHOTS over the years hehehehe

I like to call my rig The "Jay Leno".  It's old and tired.  Looking at the tech specs of it, it isn't really that bad.  Quad core,  plenty of HD space, reliable graphics card (EVGA of course), 680sli (EVGA of course - is my nose brown yet?) but there's times when I feel like I should be looking for the quarter slot due to the slow and sluggish performance of my HD's.  The Smithsonian hasn't called yet to collect my HD's yet or anything but the interwebs keep telling me I should really upgrade to see a significant perfomance boost, to keep my temperatures down, lower case noise, and to be more energy efficient.  I'd be lying if I said I cared about anything other than the performance upgrade.  My temps are ok, my fiance yells at me enough so it drowns out the case noise, and the energy efficiency isn't enough for me to look at my electric bill and do the happy dance because it's noticeably lower.  I simply just want one or five SSD's to make my system more "Conan" like.

SSD's are attempting to augment the slowest link in the chain, the hard drive.  The only sustainable performance SSD's that I am aware of, are the OCZ drives with on firmware garbage collection.  The architecture of SSD's are in it's infancy, but some are more infantile than others.  Sorry Kingston.  I use SSD's for static files frequently accessed.  Temporary files, I use RAM.  Storage I use a SAN/NAS.

SSD's will mean one very great thing. For those who use Laptops, and really use it as a 'Lap'top, then there is less chance of loosing your future children from excess heat from screaming platters. Now a new matter exists, will ram chips spontaneously combust?

i got a water cooled rigg runninga 4X 120mm water radiators. Got my AMD running at 3,93ghz in 50c all this has left me whit a 2,5 laptop hard drive space so you can c my problem. i can realy youse this hard drive to Lunch some EPIC speed and to get my cpu some real stress test in game hehe. got a 295 grapics card so the SSD drive will give my computer the speed needed to coop whit my system. pluss its coold in sweden i need some thing to heat my home and the ony thing exeptible is HARD CORE GAMING.  am i right? :b

I had no idea that the SSD's had this much of an impact on the systems normal operations. This would change how build build all my systems, and allow my ability to get things don at my speed! I have grown tired of waiting and being able to outrun a lot of my programs do to data reads/writes and loading. Gaming sounds amazing! Even if I do not win I see this as the next item to try my hand at now that the prices are much better than they had been....

Thanks EVGA. I think this idea of yours is a good one....

I am a proud owner of an Intel SSD.  It has boosted my pcs performance significantly.  My computer boots up and shuts down noticeably quicker.  My programs open like lightning and my games load quicker as well.  I was originally going to upgrade to an i7 rig from a core 2 quad with a 780i, however, after using my SSD with my current setup, I cannot really fathom a huge increase in performance by upgrading to the i7.  I can honestly say that the SSD has prevented me from spending money on the i7, an x58 and triple channel ram.  I figured i saved about $600. It was important that i did not spend this money because i now need this cash to put towards a down payment on a condo.  Now i can have the best of both worlds... a snappier system without the price tag of an i7 as well as the freedom to do whatever i want, whenever i want after i move out.  Thanks.

My first experience with SSD was from my laptop. With only a 2.4 gh dual core CPU my laptop is noticeably faster, it boots in no time. I love it. SSD's are much lighter than HDD, require much less power to operate, (which sent my batt life through the roof). They are also very durable. I cant wait to see what one would do in my desktop.

SSD Hard drives are going to out-phase HDD. Their read/write speeds are far superior to that of hard disk drives. With this SSD my system would increase my performance dramatically with boot times, and game load times. This is a very needed upgrade to my machine, and will probably be purchasing an SSD regardless!

I have yet to experience the performance gains of owning a SSD. I own a couple of Velociraptors and they get the job done, but if acquiring a SSD will help me get another notch in performance, I would gratefully welcome it, specially if it is a Kingston SSD no matter the GB size.

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Re:EVGA Mods Rigs "My SSD" promotion Tuesday, February 02, 2010 8:13 PM (permalink)
When my old Seagate 500GB drive spontaneously died last summer, I decided to bite the bullet and get an SSD for my OS drive. I picked up an OCZ Vertex 60GB drive on sale. I expected improved performance, but I was just blown away. Boot times are ridiculously fast, and load times for the handful games I have on the SSD are practically non-existent. More than anything, overall responsiveness in regular use has been vastly improved, whether it's opening files in Photoshop or just browsing the web. Moreover, SSDs aren't prone to mechanical failure, so I don't have to worry about the drive randomly seizing like my old Seagate did.

After this excellent experience with an SSD on my gaming rig, I am absolutely craving one for my laptop. I've got a relatively low-powered, ultra-portable laptop that I use daily for taking notes and writing papers, and to be honest, even on a clean install of Win7, its 250gb 5400rpm drive barely crawls along. Booting takes forever, and more often than not, I miss the first few minutes worth of notes in class just waiting for the thing to become useable. Laptops/netbooks really have the worst of both worlds in this respect, because they usually have low-powered processors (for a smaller form factor and longer battery life) paired with a sluggish HDD to keep the cost down. On the upside, however, this means that these platforms have the most to gain from upgrading to an SSD.

Ultimately, I'm a student, and I simply can't justify purchasing an SSD for my laptop at this time (as much as I love the one in my desktop, even that was probably more than I could afford to spend). A new SSD would completely revitalize my laptop, improving not only my daily productivity, but also my data security.

Thanks to EVGA and Kingston for great products and great contests like this one :)

Well, my computer has not been upgraded for a long time now (the only upgrade being my GTX 260, which is AWESOME!) Anyways, my hard drives are quite old, about six years, they were top of the line back then, although i do have 2x 250GB in Raid, they are still very slow. My CPU isn't so great either, but i recently bought an xbox as my own Christmas present, so i have no need for a new CPU (for the moment, give me 3 moths and I'll buy one) the only thing at this point that is bad about my comp are the hard drives. One of them is failing and i have limited time to continue to use it, and they aren't mirrored so i need all the speed i can get. I have used an SSD before on my brothers laptop and let me tell you that thing flies, it might have a faster CPU, but file copies are so, emphasis on the so, much faster. An SSD could potentially make my computer as fast as the day i built it 5 years ago, but of course a cpu would greatly compliment the intense speed of an SSD!!!

As I am too cheap to buy one myself, an SSD would be the centerpiece for a new build; a build that has been pending the release of Fermi. Core i7 + (dare I say, SLI?!) Fermi + SSD = . In the mean time it would breathe new life in to my somewhat antiquated junk-box. Plus, all three of my HDDs are Seagate 7200.11's... I have no idea why mine have been running as long as they have, but I need some relief in case (when) they blow up.

Easy... To run Win7 faster so i can run TF2 faster... Oh and Global Agenda now that its out.

Good use of J.axer's Propaganda poster! Cudo's! Still amazes me that my brother called him out on that one. He saw the engineer poster he made and said "if that guy enters, he wins for sure!" i lol'd when winners were posted.

Most people don't know this, but I fight ninjas. It's true, when I was 8, they kidnapped my family. I swore revenge, so when I was 17, I broke into the main Ninja Headquarters CA (Their operating base for the west coast of America) and attached tracking devices to all their employees.

You read correct, at any one time, I am tracking at least 240 ninjas. Well, my computer is more then capable of handling that, with an EVGA X58 LE motherboard and GTX 275, however recently, as more ninja's have been joining, the performance has been degrading. I suspect things may be getting bottlenecked by my average 7200 RPM hard drive.

If you, or anyone you know has had family members abducted by ninjas before, contribute an SSD to my ninja-tracking rig now.

An SSD drive would be the cherry on top. Windows Experience Index says my CPU and RAM are rated at 7.3 while the GPU for business and gaming are 7.3 and lastly my hard drive (500G Western Digital Black) is rated at 5.9.

I could only imagine what that Kingston SSD would do to that rating, as well as all the tasks I run on my PC. I would be chalk full of anticipation to plop that drive in my PC and see what it does.

Furthermore, I plan on upgrading to an EVGA motherboard (either 1336 or 1156) and would love to see how fast that Kingston SSD would do on an upgraded platform interfaced with SATA 6GB!!

SSD Awesomness! ! !

Because I want to performance similar to what is described below.

We took 24 256GB Samsung MLC SSD's and put them in RAID to make this awesome computer! See how we did it, and what the results were!
