An SSD would let me replace this slow Raptor-X (not Velociraptor) as my main drive. The speeds of this drive have gone down so much it is worse than my RAID 1 Barracudas. I could finally get rid of it if I had an SSD and enjoy the great response and load times of my games and operating system.

An SSD would be replacing my 4 year old 7200 RPM drive recycled from my former computer. I can't even imagine how fast my startup and shutdown times would be, and how fast saving those large Photoshop files would go. O.o I've never had a RAID setup or SSDs at all, but I was planning to work over the summer and put some of that towards an SSD. JBOD mechanical HDDs and IDE drives are about as fast (or as slow) as I know.

Hi EVGA, My rig is a few years old... I saved up money to build it while going to school. I recently transferred to a great tech university and am paying off my education with loans. I'm double majoring in Computer Science and Interactive Media & Game Development. Having a SSD would help me create bigger, cooler apps and run my development tools faster. I also do a lot of 3D modeling and rendering, and every extra bit of speed helps! I'd love to own a SSD because I won't have money to buy myself anything for the next couple years while I finish school.

Dear EVGA, What will I do with the SSD from EVGA? Solid State Drives are considered to be the best storage solutions to any kind of computing. Suffice to say, I will donate it to my University, because I know my school can definitely take this device and improve our education. For one, SSD can bring faster data loading time, which can save a lot of time during lectures that require to load heavy data. At any rate, I just like to thank EVGA for giving people another opportunity to improve our world. Sincerely, Kelvin An

Well I have never had anything over a 7200rpm hdd but personally I would find a way to fit it in a wooden photo frame under glass and have it sitting like a beautiful photo frame above my pc and have to run power and a sata cable to it and it would just be glorious, im still on the fence but a free one would definatly put me over the edge. oh and i would make a mods rig post about it so everyone could see it in its glory

SSD drive will benefit me in many ways over the older HDD such as; faster time in loading and shut down with windows. Once I get it in my hand, the chance I think it will be a failure drive is less. It will be much quieter and energy efficiency. File transfer will be much faster and overall going smoothly with photoshop and big apps related. It is small and portable, I can either put in my main desktop rig or simply in my laptop whenever or wherever I need to. I can't do that with regular mechanical drive. I used mechanical drives since windows 95, the new SSD will totally be a new product that I haven't experience yet. Every year, manufacturer has a faster HDD, but the overall benefit to me it just like an update. However, the new SSD to me is like an upgrade. It's not just faster or better but overall a huge jump in computer drive technology.

To me, SSD technology represents the next large step forward in the evolution of personal computing. Slowly but surely, solid state disks are making their way into the mainstream realm. Due to pricing based on storage space, the higher performing, higher capacity drives are reserved mostly for enthusiasts at this time, but with the technology rapidly advancing, manufacturers should be able to offer the superior performance of SSD's to the majority of people sooner rather than later. My roomate and I are working hard trying to get our own custom enthusiast system and case modding company off the ground. This is not something I share with many people, because most people feel that for us this is just a pipe dream. With the stranglehold the stagnant econmy has on the region, and as completely unknown builders, anything we do is on our own dime, and it has been extremely difficult to continue moving forward at the rate we'd like. We are both in the midst of constantly evolving projects that we will eventually use as a template and examples of the services we will offer to customers. Our love of computers, building, and design has led us to this point, and our hope is to offer a higher quality of custom PC to those who love the combination of aesthetic beauty and top tier performance in custom builds as much as we do. Also, we hope to offer the highest quality hardware possible, instead of cutting corners with lower quality components like some others do. Continuing has been difficult, and each revision in our designs has come after only great personal sacrifice. There are many more things that need to fall into place in order for us to get our dream off the ground, and once we do, we expect things to become even more difficult. One piece in this puzzle is our own projects. For me, the performance of an SSD has not been something I have been able to attain yet, and as the revisions and mods on my project continue, other things will take increased priority, particularly in the realm of case design and modding to the 800D I'm working on now. Even though high performing SSD's have reached a much more affordable level, we are only able to save so much, as our hours have been drastically reduced, and as a result have had to focus on other aspects for now. As I said originally, to me SSD technology represents the future of personal computing and the next stage in it's rapid evolution. More importantly to us, it represents a piece of the future face of our company in the works, showing that we have what it takes to integrate the highest end components in our builds, and in turn offer those to our customers.

They take up about half of the power consumption compared to the standard hard drive. This means battery life for laptops is going to be much better. So you can spend even more time unplugged. Another thing is it is very fast almost 100 times faster then the standard hard drive. I saw an amazing boost in performance every time i opened and closed applications and the OS. It's also much quiter.Since there is no disk to spin there isn't any noise at all. One other thing is that the SSD is a much better storage preference to save important data since it is unlikely to fail! Your simply going to be amazed at the potential of this new hard drive. And i say that when i have experienced the intel x25-m one which is a value ssd not an elite one!

SSD's are revolutionary, there is no doubt about it. Personally, I do not have the money for these new blazing fast drives. However, after going on my friends computer and experiencing the insane quickness (like 2 second shut downs) of his SSD, there is no doubt that I want one. And with Kingston making SSD drives, there is again no doubt in my mind that they are reliable, and of course, off the charts fast. In fact, I just got off the phone with Kingston Customer Support, and got my cross-shipping RMA done in less than 5 minutes. Immediate response, great support, lifetime warranty (for my RAM at least). Kingston's service ranks up there with the best. (Dare I say it, EVGA? ) In short, I would love to have a SSD in my system. I am currently running a WD 640GB Caviar Green, and while it does what a hard drive should do, with my current setup (measly, but it works lol), the next biggest jump would certainly be one of these out-of-this-world drives. (Oh and I forgot to add, I saw Kingston's "will it break" SSD series. More people should search it up, I certainly was surprised at the durability of the drives - one survived a golf smash and still booted.)

I built me up a good rig but the hard drive is where I had to go cheap. It's noticeable on the boot and load times. Been meaning to upgrade it sooner or later. I was thinking of maybe getting a velociraptor or a ssd since they are about the same price range. I would like to have a ssd to increase my boot up speeds and the load times for games. Best of all - no moving/mechanical parts so no head crashes no bearing failures, etc.

A SSD drive would provide many benefits over a traditional drive, power savings, they use less power than the spinning disks. less heat, no mechanical disk spinning and less watts used = less heat in system therefore a cooler running system. reliable, no spinning disk to worry about, no bearings to wear out or head to platter crashes. smaller, they take up less space and do not block intake fans as much. faster ( i would love a raid setup with them ) access time are much faster than magnetic disk could ever be. quite, again no moving parts to sound like a cat on speed at the scratching post. these will be the standard in a few years with everyone wondering why we used the spinning disk for so long.

i'd want an ssd because it has low seek time, fast read and write and will make my comp feel a lot faster than any other upgrade i currently need as my hard drive is the biggest bottle neck in my system i currently only have 3x640gb 7200 rpm WD harddrive in raid 0 so i already have a large storage space, but i just need an ssd for a boot drive and my system would be a lot faster, load games faster and generally respond quicker. less heat, lower power usage, and it won't matter if i shake the ssd. though i do worry about the read write cycle lifetime of ssd.

I was going to say a SSD would increase my boot time, but then I realized boot time didn't really matter much because my computer is on folding 24/7 most of the time . It would however decrease my downtime when I upgrade my drivers or maintain my PC. I just watched the EVGA P55 + SDD video a few minutes ago. The boot times of the SDD versus the HDD was amazing. Five SSDs in a raid 0 configuration would make booting to the desktop almost instantaneous . It would be really cool if I had a SSD so that I could show it off to all my friends, and to everyone at the LAN parties! An SSD would also make me feel a whole lot better knowing that my data is safe.

SSD technology will change the way I use my home PC. I have 300GB of programs and cannot afford a large enough SSD to run them on. So I would be forced to evaluate which programs I want to take advantage of when using a SSD. Hence, I would have to use a hard disk to install programs that do not fit on the SSD. Additionally, I would place all my files and documents on the hard disk as well. Specifically, I would put Adobe After Effects on the SSD to improve build times on large projects. From my research I could save over 50% in build time. So, using an SSD affects me in two ways. One is complicated because I have to add a HD and manage my program installs. The second is a benefit because I save time. I feel the benefit is worth it. Hopefully SSD technology will come down in price, so I CAN afford a large drive. Maybe I just need a higher paying job ;) I appreciate EVGA and Kingston for offering this prize. PS: Running a SSD is also bragging rights. My Dad will be jealous. If he had it his way, I should still be using by cassette tape connected to my old Commodore Vic 20

Well.......... Basically SSD TECH. would really only benefit me in BENCHMARKING! But, then again, it would also require less of my PSU, less demand on southbridge chip! Assuming that the load would be less factoring in the RAID would be dissabeled and only one SATA PORT to operate! BTW im poor and this would be the only way i could have a SSD drive! Damn bills!

With SSD hard driver I can save a lot of time and be more productive. Loading windows will be much faster and loading games. If I have 2 hours during work break, I can get more done. This will be a great ideal for swap file for the os to use as ram if some programs needed it.

How would a SSD affect my computing experience. Application loading and even gaming load times would decrease by massive amounts. I am using some OEM 160 GB 2.5" 5400 rpm drive. First boot on this machine with my old Raptor 74gig x 3 RAID 0 setup was within <30 seconds. Now its on the part of 2 minutes. Firefox and IE takes god what seems like ages (In reality 5 / 6 seconds) to load. As the economy has gone to **** pretty much. Being the only income provider in this household has thus made a SSD rather unobtainable due to cost factor. Even plain Jane Office takes a 45 seconds to load. Photoshop good god everybody knows how slow it loads due to the millions of plugins. Add a slow loading OEM laptop harddrive. I might as well take a hammer to my fingers as for they heal faster than Photoshop will load on this PC. Do I hope I get the SSD, sure why not, bring a little joy into my own life. Will I, yea I doub it 5 vs 100k entries. I think I have better luck trying to catch a fly with some chopsticks. Karate Kid style.

An SSD would significantly boost my system. I have been plagued by hard drive lag for quiet awhile. I am using 2 160GB each having 8MB of cache and use first generation SATA. Most games I play, like Crysis tend to stutter when the level beings or similar occurrences due to my slow hard drives. An SSD would be a god send, Using one to install my OS and my most frequently used games on would be phenomenal from the faster speed and would lessen time wasted waiting while I overclock which I attempt frequently but having to wait for the OS to boot to test my settings is frustrating. An SSD would be the most amazing add-on for my computer and the only one I would add for quite awhile, that and my 2 other drives in RAID 0 would serve me for plenty of years while I being my college career. The only thing scaring me from buying one is that price tag.

I have had 3 hard drives fail on me and each time I have lost important information. Also now, I am stuck using this old 320gb hard drive which isn't too fast. I believe that getting a solid state disk would give me a better peace of mind because solid state disks are known to be more durable also I would love the boost in loading times. Also I barely use any of the space on the drive, maybe 30 gb at max so a space downgrade wouldn't affect me at all.

Well if I get a SSD i'll chuck my IDE drive that i stole from my moms computer that she was throwing away. I was (and still am) short on money so i used a 120G IDE HDD from my mom's old computer. and so i barely manages to scrap together my computer. I have a i7 920 and a nice EVGA GTX 260. i had planed to buy a new one when i got the money. but i with the economy and a student's budget i had to put food first. because my Hard drive is old and dieing. its slowing everything down. as i type this out its constantly lagging, it takes 2min. to start up, and some of my games freeze when they open up because they haven't finished loading. funny though, my computer will sit at the loading Windows screen for 1:30min dead silent, then the HDD with kick in the noise and it will load in 30 secs. The short version is, a SDD would mean that my computer would be the beast i had planned it to be, before money became short. everything would run in the blink of an eye, and i would never had to make myself a cup of coffee while it started up. The super fast SDD would make my gaming experience reach the top level. mod rig link: http://www.evga.com/community/ModsRigs/comment.asp?sysid=16948

I currently have a Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HDD. It runs with my Intel i7-920 OCd at 3.3 GHz with my 6GB OCZ DDR3 and GTX 260. Although the transfer rate isn't bad with the Seagate, i feel like it could be faster! I do some pretty intensive work (aside from copious amounts of gaming!...) and having a faster drive containing my OS (win7 pro 64bit) would allow for more calculations and less power consumption! Running games at lightning speed is also a goal of mine... an SSD would definitely help me accomplish that! Plus one of my buddies has a comparable PC and is using a SSD and we are always competing to have the fastest, craziest PC we can build. I'd love a chance to be able to one - up - him! (all in good fun of course!)

I was a SSD early adopter, 1985. My first SSD was a 400K on my Osborn I SSDD 180K duel drive CP/M machine . On it I ran a 8K record database under DBaseII, of mastectomy prosthesis wearers, and a proofed the mailing list for duplicate addresses and names. We had 3 stores with card files in each, in 2 states, 2 in Or. and 1 in Wa. Many customers who had made their first purchase at our initial store(1978) found themselves closer to our second store(1980), and merging the cardfile databases produced a series duplicate names, that made the bulk mail list a pain to sort. As time went on, and I went to a 286 system, the Gee Wiz speed of a Database sort at the speed of electrons as opposed to the speed of a stepper motor, was never lost on me again. From DOS 3.3 through DOS 6.2 once I knew what system overhead was required for program operation, I would configure as much as I could to my Ram Drive. I to would like to add a 225 megs. a second read drive to further my gaming enjoyment. But unlike most of these others, I have moved at the speed of electrons for almost half my life. And that half is longer that most of these others have been alive! My current system is a HP 9452 8200 Intel quad, shipped with a 750 gig drive to which I added a 1.5 Tera Seagate, and I have a 200 gig ATA 300 running into a USB port. 8 gigs of RAM, TV tuner, and sadly it came without a dedicated graphics card in it and Intel on the board did not do it for games AT ALL. My AGP cards from my previous machine didn't didn't fit the PCI in the new rig. So i waited to get a new one and picked up a 9400 / 512 meg. And while it was not the latest or the greatest I have yet to find something that it doesn't run. When I do find something I like(I'm not a FPS player by habit) that needs more I'll add it when I can. SO at this point I have 3 open bays in which to put a spankin' new SSD. You can call me MadMichaelJohn

I actually already have an SSD, but it'd be cool to get a second one! My current SSD is an Intel first-generation MLC drive. It runs blazing fast; fast enough that the rest of my computer is way behind it. One of my favorite features of it is that, when coupled with Windows 7, rebooting the computer is completely painless; I just click the restart button and I'm back into firefox 30 seconds later! I also have been amazed by the speed of installs; after downloading installers, it takes all of 10-50 seconds to install whatever program it is that I downloaded. I love my SSD; it makes everything go fast. If I get a second SSD, I might try using some sort of RAID configuration, or just putting it in a different build.

SSD will change my life , when I woke up in the morning , I'm always waiting the windows boot. That makes me angry . But imagine with the ssd, power up the computer and couple of seconds later , windows's ready and no noise awake all the neighborhood. Thanks EVGA to make great product and great contest :)

a 64GB SSD would greatly change my life. Three days ago my EVGA 8800GTS died. I bought this card back when it was around 450 bucks. Im really tight on cash and anything that would improve my system would greatly change my life.
