For starters, pay the $30 more and step up to a 3570k processor.  This way, you can tweek the core speeds later when you do feel like overclocking it.  You could save some money by not buying a GTX640, because you're going to upgrade to a GTX650 when it comes out.  I know the Intel HD4000 graphics are still not the most powerful GPU, but its performance is equal to a GT430.  Also, I don't see an aftermarket heatsink on your list?

One thing to take into account is what is the rig being built for.  I build mine to be able to withstand full on abuse 24/7, but be whisper quiet when not going full out.  Even at full power, I still build them to be quiet.

Crystal: Intel i7 930 3.6GHz(OC) / EVGA X58 758 / 3x 4GB Corsair XMS3 / GTX 660Ti FTW+ / 2x GTX 560Ti SLI
Quartz (mothball): Intel i7 2600k 3.8GHz / EVGA Z77 Stinger mITX / 2x 4GB Corsair XMS3 / GTX 660Ti SC
Mercury: Intel i5 3570k 4.2GHz(OC) / ASRock Z68 mITX / 1x 4GB Corsair XMS3 / 2x GTX 1660 Super
Cobalt: Intel i7 4710HQ 2.5Ghz / ASUS GL551JM-DH71 / 2 x 8GB / GTX 860m - Gaming/Physics/Astronomy Laptop

I guess I should've mentioned its primary purpose. I'm hooking it up to my TV to watch shows and movies and also to play a few games from my underused sofa. So I will be needing dedicated graphics to play games with decent quality at 1080p60.

I believe I did mention using the Corsair H60 as my aftermarket CPU cooler, so if I did decide to overclock, heat won't be too much of an issue, although I may wish to perform the TIM replacement of the CPU's IHS to lower temperatures further.

Although the GT 640 may not be the best GPU for this computer's purpose, I can always step it up through EVGA once my preferred GPU (GTX 650) becomes available.

Mobo: Asus GRYPHON Z97

In that case maybe just go with an older 500 series card and cheaper mITX board to save money. The Z77 is intended for overclocking purposes anyway.

Okay, didn't catch the H60 for cooling.  You will have to ditch the 180mm case fan to place the radiator there.  There should be ample room in the SG08 case for everything else.  As for re-TIM (Thermal Interface Material), I also do this.  Even if the heatsink comes with pre-applied, I always re-TIM with better and cleaner TIM.  This seems to give me around 3~8*C better temps.

Everything in your list seems good for what you want to do.  I still suggest upgrading the CPU to a 3570k or even a 3770k to take full advantage of the Z77 board & H60 cooling capacity.  Even for $30 more, it will be worth it.

The SG08 Case works best with Vapor Chamber video cards.  The adapter for the side doesnt fit the non vapor chamber cards cuz the fans are too large for the adapter.

Just something to keep in mind if you want to use the case to its fullest.

Starting to feel the downtime of Quartz folding rig.  Not having a rig going for 24x7 means I have to juggle between Crystal and Mercury on folding.  Next week I go back to work, so that means both rigs can fold at the same time to catch up.  Here is to hoping EVGA releases the mITX soon.

Any idea when is the ETA and cost for this ITX board? I've been lurking around for updates and trying not to get the ASUS board yet because I want to own another EVGA hardware!

Jacob said price would be $150+

I found my solution around on my fan noise, just needed to downclock to 3.4GHz from 3.6GHz to keep the temps below the 65*C mark.  Thou Dynatron's fan is still making a buzzing noise at idle too.  And finding a PWM 60mm x25mm fan is harder than I thought.  I tried a 3 pin version plugged into the 4 pin connection, fan defaults to high speed, no fan control.  I could try another 3 pin fan with a y-harness to the case fan since they too speed up when the CPU temp hits its mark.  Anyhow, at least its back up folding for now.

After reading about all the BIOS problems on other motherboards and remembering about the significant delays with the P67 motherboard, I decided it wasn't worth waiting.  I went for a crappy Intel mini ITX motherboard for my daughter's computer.  At least it has a Firewire port so she can connect her old video camera.  I plan on taking over her computer when she goes to college in a couple years.  Hopefully by then EVGA will have a stable mini ITX or micro ATX motherboard that supports the i3570K CPU I got.

Sorry to hear that.  We all have been waiting very patiencely.  I'm sure we all want the board to come out right now, but we got to wait for the best.  Besides, I want Quartz back up and folding so I can take Mercury offline for a while to fix its buzzy fan noise.

Besides, my luck has been crashing lately.  Lost another HDD today.  Seems like all my Seagate drives are breaking down.  Luckily I was wise enough to make 2 seperate backups.  I think no more Seagate drives for me, all Western Digital like the good ol days in the 1980's.

Wise decision! Seagate = junk!

Why are there conflicting sources, some says that this board has a mini display port, some other sources keep saying its thunderbolt... has EVGA gone thunderbolt yet?

Damn late september- early oct launch release is too painful.

You could just find a picture of the I/O panel and use deductive reasoning.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

Ah dang it, you just reminded me that I'm gonna need a VGA adapter for it to work for me.  Wonder if EVGA is going to include one?  My monitor has only one of each type of connector (HDMI = PS3, DVI = Crystal PC, VGA = folding rig).

It is about time EVGA posted a product page for this.

Don't know about the code name "Stinger".  But I guess that is fitting for the size and potenial this board has.  I think a scorpion should play the mascot for this board.  Be fitting for it.

Facebook folks can say anything they want.  I'm still going for EVGA's mITX.  I don't need all the fancy bells and whistles.  I need a mITX that can perform up to the tasks that I have planned for it and the abuse.

I'm sorry if someone post before but look this little devil when hold
some of best and powerfull world HW and turns little case in hardcore game rig.
EVGA mini ITX Z77 Stinger + Dominator Platinum (2x8GB Ideal) +
EVGA GTX680 Classified 4GB

Without heatsink you can see how this board looks like seriuos HW... not like toy. I like that look, everything is there, POSCAPS, 7+1 Phase is absolutely enough people know that, USB 3.0, SATA III, Onboard LED, Voltage Reading Point who need. This some overclocker, enthusiast build secondary machine that's this.
Everything like on this picture and 240GB Intel/CORSAIR SSD, little Cubitek, 650W PSU - Paradise.

And I hear many good comments special about Z75 SLI and their clean look around PCI-E slots and passive heatsink/cooler shape.

Re:EVGA Mini-ITX Z77 2012/09/14 06:53:03 (permalink)
Nice little board.
Hopefully my build will have this in it since up until now I have been wanting to get the ASUS Z77 ITX board.
I have a question. Since my build is going to be primarily a gaming build, is it worth getting the i7 3770k over the i5 3570k?

The rest of my build will be something along these lines:
BitFenix Prodigy black (with a 200mm fan in front)
Corsair AX650
EVGA Z77 Stinger (most likely this unless price is close to the ASUS board in which case I'll get that)
Intel Core i5 3570K (or the i7 3770k)
Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB
Samsung 830 Series 128GB
EVGA GTX 670 2GB
Corsair H100
BenQ XL2420T

Do you guys think it will be a good build?
Any suggestions?
Thanks

No a 3770k will provide no benefits for gaming. The Stinger will be 150+, at least a couple months ago that is what I was told.

You choose good parts NutzInTheHead.
Some people want little exclusive and they will consider
Dominator Platinum 2x8, 3770k
Intel or CORSAIR SSD but you will pay almost 200$ more for same performanse.  Your list is OK(with Stinger).
Yes my opinion is i7 is never throwing money. i7-3770k worth that price special for people who hold over 2.5 year on that.
Or they can change mind later but only at the moment of buying they think little longer to stay on one platform.

I would love to live in some good countrie and have good payment that I would build for wife same PC.
Little but powerfull.
This little Stinger is nasty. Man can think what little motherboard for some HTPC and 3770 without K, yes of course, but Stinger easy transform on OC board, every good parts are there and Z77. HTPC > Little HardCore Gaming Rig.
After this other mini ITX is I don't know...funny.
Where you look Stinger offer like big boards if you want one graphic card.

NutzInTheHead you don't like Lian-Li???
What you think about PC-Q18, PC-Q11, Cubitek Micro Ice,... but Bitfenix Prodigy look good too and people love that case too.

Well actually by the time I get the money to build this probably Haswell will be out. I have been looking at this for a little but wont decide completely until I have the money and am ready to buy the parts. Still I always keep up with tech and read a lot of reviews and peoples opinions. Once I decide to build my computer I will post stuff in forums and see what people think. That list above is just an example. I really like building a killer rig on just an itx size case and ever since the Prodigy's release I have fallen in love with that case. Lian Li is good too but all I can say is I like the Prodigy better :P

I like EVGA very much hence I really want to get this Stinger board. It's socket and slot placements are very good I think.

Anyways I think I shouldn't post component parts since I really don't know when I will build my new system. Only thing I'm 100% certain of is that I will be getting a 120Hz monitor.

I really hope EVGA continues to make enthusiast mini-itx boards with every new intel socket. I really love'em. They are cute lol.

I have a question about the Z77 Stinger. If I wanted to put a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD PCIe sound card into the PCIe 3.0 slot. Would it work and/or would there be any problems?

I don't really wanna use the onboard sound and I paid a lot of money for this sound card and I really wanna get this Stinger motherboard. Could someone please advise.
