Woohoo this board looks great!   Few questions for you all though...I have a micro atx x58 (evga) with an I7 920 oc to 3.5 on air.  I just bought a ssd and looking to move up to the next batch of graphics card to come out.  So would this be an "upgrade" to what i have now?  I know this will have pcie 3.0 and sata 6.0 gb, but will the purchase of a the new processcor be worth it?  I do not plan on sli'ing or crossfire.  Just not that hardcore...yet!  Thanks for the info.  Oh and what type of powersupply do you need to put in a mitx case.  Guess I am outdated now.  Haven't reaserched anything since the x58 debuted!

mini-ITX usually use standard ATX PSU.
Sometimes it only use a 4pin CPU connector instead of a 8pin for high-end mainboard.

Switching from x58 to Z77 isn't a really big jump now. You will take advantage of PCIe 3.0 with high-end graphic card, but not with middle-range card.

GTX690 take advantage of PCIe 3.0, 680 and 670 only take 3 to 5 percent more in comparison to PCI 2.0 16x

For CPU part only, you will get something like 20 percent but decrease power consumption by 30W at least.

For my point: keep your old X58 CPU, it's a fabulous piece of old school overclocking. Maybe add a second card to your rig, to handle a few weeks.

Or you can create a whole new rig, keeping your old one and trying new stuff: Home theatre PC, fully passive pc, lan-party rig or so...

Don't feel too out of date, I'm still running with the X58 too.  On my friends build that I did for him, I found that the i5 3570k has double the processing power than a i7 930 overclocked to 3.4GHz.  And puts out less heat, 130W vs. 77W TDP.  So yes it would be an upgrade.  As for the PSU, it really depends on the physical case size.  You won't need to buy anything special, unless you get a special size case.  Examples, the Antec ISK 300-150 comes with its own PSU shaped to fit inside the case.  The SilverStone SG05-450 comes with its own PSU in a small form factor.  So pick a case that you like and build on from there.  I own a SilverStone SG05-450, good case with room for a 9" Double-slot GPU.  Plus very good cooling capcity with the 120mm fan up front.  My next build will be based on the Antec ISK 300-150.  Going to be a tight fit with so little space to use.

Perhaps an Msata SSD for say a linux OS boot drive or what about HDD caching?  I guess the question is would it be worth the money for something like this Vs using it as a full boot drive.

I also have a hard time believing a hyperthreaded quad core i7 being out paced by a quad Ivy i5 even if the i7 930 is older tech but I guess its possible.

Also I am willing to bet it would be $150+.  I don't know why but there always seems to be a premium with EVGA boards even with the lack of features and such.  I don't see it as high as $199 like the ASUS with that nice looking power module but I do see it being more expensive than the Asrock Z77 ITX, even if it lacks a wireless Msata card.  I have to say, my B75 ITX from Asrock seems to be running nice but then again I am just running a Team Speak 3 Server and Minecraft server on it with a Celeron G530 so its hardly doing any heavy lifting.

Believe it.  My jaw dropped when I ran the test.  Made me change my decision on processor for the next rig.  Running a LinX test of 4,788MB problem size, this is how it came down for a 3 test runs.  i7 930 3.6GHz = 227sec, 45gigaflops.  i5 3570k 3.8GHz = 100sec, 103gigaflops.  Speed is with the turbo boost maxed out for all 4 cores.  The i5 3570k cores were all set to 3.8GHz max.  The icing on the test run is the temps.  The i7 930 using a Corsair H100 water cooling has a stable temp range of 72-75*C under full load.  The i5 3570k using a Zalman CNPS8900 heatsink has a stable temp range of 64-71*C under full load.  While the i7 930 has a little overhead to OC some more, best not to.  On the other hand, the i5 3570k with its aftermarket heatsink still had some overhead to OC further as the fan sat at idle.  Or even putting on a liquid cooling would really push OC beyond max.

Now while the i5 3570k did show it is twice as fast as the i7 930.  Real-world programs may prove other wise.  FAH would be one example of that.  Unfortunely I did not run that test as I was trying to make the build a quick turn around for my friend to start gaming on with.

Thats pretty crazy thanks for the details.  I may have to look into an i5 3570k for one of these server systems.

Oh look, a whole 24 hour without somebody posting something.  Not anymore!

Okay besides that, I'm going forward with my Mercury rig build.  Don't think I'm going to get any better of a deal than what Newegg.com is offering.  On top of the $15 off for the 3570k cpu, Corsair just added a $10 rebate on the memory.  So a total of $25 off.  I won't be able to get the disc drive that I wanted, but it won't be used much anyways.  Rig's build total looks to be in the sub $500.  Sadly though, this means my 24/7 folding rig is going into down time as I will need the mobo from it.  At least till EVGA releases their Z77 mITX, then it will come back with venegance.

Offload an ASUS Z77 mITX? Do you already have one or just in the planning stages?  Can't wait for when I get all those goodies I just ordered.  "Mercury" is going to be the smallest build I have ever done.  Will be a good space saving PC with full features.  Naturally I will post photos of the build too, when it comes in first.

I already have it (the ASUS Z77 mITX Board that is) ... it is in my build thread in the Mods Rigs area here on the forums ... only opened it up to check it out and thats it ... haven't mounted it to anything nor has it seen a single ounce of power from me ...

Machupo, where did you get the 30mm number?  Some datasheet?  Discussion above (fueled just by the photographs that have been released thus far)?
I don't think the photograph lets one judge if it's 30mm or 51mm as it does not reveal where under the EVGA flange the mpcie connector is.  If it's right up against the chipset heatsink, it seems the full height mcpie card can be accommodated (of course, it could just be my wishful thinking)

Discussion above (primarily, the pic with the flange removed). The uncovered pic pretty clearly shows that the connector is in the middle of the space, almost like you could insert a 30mm card to either way :(

Hey guys!  Just saw this thread and discovered this motherboard!  It looks awesome and i'm doing a full watercooled PC in the new Bitfenix Prodigy with an i7 2600k and a GTX 690 fully watercooled and I was putting it all together when a fitting broke loose and spilled all over my ASUS P8Z77-I motherboard.  I guess in some ways it was all for the best because I think I'm gonna wait for this motherboard as I wait for my 690 to be RMA(eta 2 weeks).  Come check out my thread-  add to the conversation!

As long as your mobo wasn't on and the PSU wasn't plugged in it shouldn't be damaged. I got water on my old mobo and just left it out to dry for about 4 days and it worked fine.

So I have been busy.  I got the case today and decided to do the layout of the cases.  Nearly done, just need the CPU and disc drive, then it is off.  Thou now my 2600k is homeless and Quartz is feeling empty.  So hope to EVGA's Z77 mITX release soon.

I will have to wait for my little dual ITX server.  I am already one B75 board into it but I can find another use for that in my media center.  I can't wait for these to get released.  At the moment most of my plans are on hold for them.  I guess I could start looking into i5 or i7 chips for them until they are released.

Very nice. I want to buy EVGA but I can't wait for EVGA. They are taking entirely too long to get product out. New chipset will be out by the time this board is out.

BitFenix Prodigy:

The best itx case ever made. You should put a 200mm rad in the front and a 240mm in the top.

If you checked my OC.net thread that's exactly what I did.

It is sooooo good, i will build one in September while at uni. Only thing i would have changed about the case is the material, prefer aluminium.

Corsair 5000D Airflow | EVGA 1000 G6 | EVGA X570 FTW | Ryzen 5800X | EVGA 360 CLC | Corsair 4000MHz 32GB|
Corsair MP600 2TB | EVGA 3080 Ti FTW Hybrid | Alienware AW2721D | Windows 11

2 x 120 are good enough. You still need room for other stuff.

Perhaps not for an i7 2600k @ 5GHz and a GTX 690 @ 1.1 GHz :3

So heres the deal:  Im right in the middle of a mini-itx Bitfenix Prodigy build and my ASUS P8Z77-I motherboard had a bit of an accident.  Should I really wait for this motherboard and be disappointed if it doesnt meet expectations(ie: crappy BIOS wouldnt be surprising from EVGA) or should I buy another ASUS board?  What do you guys think?

So, how will this be better than the (also) upcoming MSI board?

Something tells me that MSI is going to be cheaper and it seems to have full height mpcie (LOL at the battery, of course)
