AFAIK It will be backwards compatible like the other Ivy 1155 series boards.  However SB chips will lose some of the boards features like PCIe 3.0, it will simply just run at 2.0 specs is all.

I'm looking on newegg for CPUs what should I look for when it comes to PCI 3.0?

What do you mean by easy to use?  It is the latest of the latest, also most expensive LGA1155.  In terms of overclocking, models with the letter "K" are most flexible, those without are limited to a 400MHz increase.  Your Pentium G870 choice can go up to 3.5GHz, and that's it.

Jason Eller
I'd like to use this CPU: Intel Sandy Bridge Pentium G870
Just so you know, when Ivy Bridge affordable models come, they won't support PCIe 3.0.  So far only Core i5-3xx0 and i7-3xx0 have PCIe 3.0 controllers.  Core i3-3000's for instance, won't have it, therefore the slower models won't either.

Quite simple really, those that want the latest specification support will naturally buy the premium processors of the socket and not something slower.  Therefore the cheapest processors you could get and still have PCIe 3.0 will be from the i5-3000 series.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

Just noticed Newegg is offering $15-$20 off on the Ivy Bridge "k" models.  Might be upping my "Mercury's" build date from August 13 to August 1 instead.

are you joking? dude, you live in Oklahoma City, you have a Microcenter nearby which is selling Ivy Bridge 1155 3770K @ $289 and 3570K @ $189 ... newegg has them WAY more expensive ...

Live in OKC, more like frying in OKC.  As for the Microcenter, don't have one.  The nearest one is in Texas.  And I'm not about to drive 200+ miles round trip in this 100*F+ heat.  But if there was one a lot closer, than that would be a heck of a deal.

I'm going to wait till the beginning of August.  Newegg usually puts up some good deals at the near end or beginning of the months.  Also waiting for them to get the slim disc drive that I want.  I hate the pop out trays for slim disc drives.  Want one where only the disc pops out.

you are totally right. I am sorry, for some reason I read Kansas City as Oklahoma City (on Microcenter website), my bad, a mind fart...
I totally agree about traveling in 100F+ heat, no way, not worth it 200 miles one way, price of gas would kill the savings, plus the wasted time ... and effort.

good luck with your cpu hunt on newegg!

Well I've been a bit sheltered only reading about this now ... I guess I've been busy with work, happy with the ol' X58 Micro with its new GTX 670 FTW, and haven't been lurking here much ...

All I can say is ABOUT TIME!!!!!

After asking for this a few years ago it's almost here, and now I'm torn between 2 paths, I was fully intending to move up to X79, and another GTX 670 FTW, as I have the X58 Micro in an Antec Solo II case in preparation for the upgrade.

I also have a neat red Lian Li PC-Q08 case sitting empty after moving its old H55N and i5-760 onto a new home (I'm attached to the case, couldn't sell it), or maybe the trusty old SG05 that's currently my VM test machine ... I even still have a AXP-140 cooler somewhere!

The X58 Micro gets used for BF3 on a 120Hz AW2310 and for music production ... the upgrade or downsize will be used the same ...

Which way should I go?!?

If you don't plan using a second PCI(e) card, if you're quite happy with the performance of the X58, would like a smaller size, and lower thermal output, I would go with the mITX Z77.  But if you need to expand on PCI(e) cards, need a bigger case, and more brute force power from a server class cpu, I would then choose the X79.

just so people are wondering ... from what I can tell you will NOT be able to utilize the mSATA port for an SSD ... the 2 red headers are in your way and they dont make a really short SSD the size of a WiFi card style :(

Assuming that the hole at the top-left corner of the USB3.0 header (blue thingy) is for fixing/supporting the mPCIe card, I want to say that full height card will be accommodated (as the position of the hole w.r.t. mPCIe connector implies length > width for mPCIe card, which is the case for full height cards (length < width for half height cards)

mSATA = mPCIe ?

Yes, from the photos, we can say that a SSD cache card will not work.  Thou with SSD drives dropping in price, why would one pay $100 for 24GB SSD cache when they can drop $100 for a 60+GB SSD drive.

mSATA = mPCIe for the purposes of discussion here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express)
Full height mSATA/mPCIe card is 2" long.  Now, see how the size of the card that can be accommodated there is about half the length of the PCI-e x16 slot? .. which is about 2".  Based on that I still think that a full height card can be accommodated.

Also, I think, half-sized mSATA cards exist, they're just rare (but one would imaginne there's going to be more and more of them going forward)

i do not ... due to the card having to go left and the red headers will be in the way ... that and i think the card will hit the I/O Panel area ... would be nice to 1/2 length SSD to use in that slot and save some connections

I'm really looking forwar to these.  I can really use two of them for my Dual ITX build.  I will have to keep browsing back here for a date and price.  I'm gonna guess in the $150 ballpark as that seems to be where the Z77 ITX boards are at.

this has to cost less than $ 150.

why?
  • asus has wireless and other frills and costs $ 199
  • asrock has wireless and other inputs and costs $ 150
the evga will come with the mini pci-e slot / msata empty ???, I imagine that it will costing $ 120 - $ 130.

I was thinking it was going to cost around $350, seeing how EVGA makes the best Motherboards.

this has to cost less than $ 150.

why?
  • asus has wireless and other frills and costs $ 199
  • asrock has wireless and other inputs and costs $ 150
the evga will come with the mini pci-e slot / msata empty ???, I imagine that it will costing $ 120 - $ 130.

I was thinking it was going to cost around $350, seeing how EVGA makes the best Motherboards.

if confirmed, this input is for 30mm cards.
is hard to find wireless and  ssd  device with 30mm...

who make that size, I know:

Actually it probably wont be. In the z75 thread Jacob said it could be more than $150 but no final price yet.
