Wrapped-in-bacon Crap, now I feel like I may have screwed myself. I emailed support last night because my 2012 s/n 3090 had a cap pop and fried. They told me I would be getting a refurb unit. I wish I would have known about this before I asked for the cross-ship.
What? You'd rather have a broken card that you've used vs a refurbed card? They always say it's a refurb btw. Lots of us got brand new cards. But beyond that, pretty much every company will fulfill warranty replacements from refurbished stock when available.

No I was saying I would rather get the one with the newer PCB than a refurb.

Dear All, So today I have got my RMA 3090 OC program card. Card came in brand NEW sealed box…. Black lips wild XOC 500W bios on it Factory BIOS: 94.02.42.80.14 (non OC) 94.02.42.80.15 (OC) I have applied relevant BIOS from RE-Bar forum (links below as the card is 3982 PCB) Standard: https://cdn.evga.com/bios/30Series/3982V940242C005.zip OC: https://cdn.evga.com/bios/30Series/3982K940242C002.zip 94.02.42.C0.05 (non OC) 94.02.42.C0.02 (OC) PCIE slot marking 1.0 PCIE power draw on maximum setting 61-66W I am overall happy that I went through RMA process. My RMA experience: - Getting approval was somewhat lengthy due German public holiday. - 3 days to ship to EVGA. - 3 days from EVGA Please note: that my initial email from CZ domain was completely ignored (probably filtered out by EVGA email filter) once I send email from my GMAIL I have got response within 2 hours. Based on above I am happy with EVGA RMA support (only pity that first PCB generation seems like BETA test but they are doing RMA if you ask for it) … Right now, I do hope that this card will stick with me for a long time… Kind regards Tomas

Hi everybody,
I'm hitting perfcap PWR at 380-400W with hybrid cooler and XOC bios, only bios giving more power is the XC3 one with Resizable bar enabled.
I'm entitled to the replacement program ?
Cheers

Thirty-Thirty Hello all, I would like to share my experience with the exchange program. I purchased my 3090 FTW3 card at the end of 2020, but could put it into operation together with the rest of the components only a months ago. The serial number startet with 2014 und it had red lips.
I tested two OC 500W Bios (94.02.26.48.F8 and 94.02.42.80.27) No benchmark could exceed a power draw over 450W. Maximum value and not average. Most of he time I got around 400-420W. GPU-Z showed max. 105-107% TDP – although raised to 119% in Precision X1. Also PCIe power draw sometimes exceeded 80W.
So I reached out to sending some screenshots and they approved the exchange. I'm from Germany, so the next steps of the exchange went through EVGA Munich in Germany.
This is what I got in return - 3090 FTW3 in original box (sealed) - serial number starts with 2112 (label on box says made in Taiwan - I thought 12 means China) - red lips - BIOS 94.02.42.80.14 (non OC) and 94.02.42.80.15 (OC) - PCIe retention tab show version 1.0
I'm irritated by the old BIOS versions (most of you seem to have gotten the version 94.02.42.C0.02) and by the red lips cooler.
Setting Precision X1 to 119%, +150 cpu clock, +800 ram clock and voltage slider to the right position.
Kombustor benchmark including FurMark and Port Royale showed 450-460W max. - but now continuously. 500W were not reachable. PCIe power stays between 65-70W - so this issue is fixed.
I tried to update with BIOS with 94.02.42.80.27 from the start post like I did it with my old card. This was not possible because of a mismatch of the PCI subsystem (so this card IS different from my orginal one?).
WARNING: Firmware image PCI Subsystem ID (3842.3987) does not match adapter PCI Subsystem ID (3842.3982)
Using nvflash with --protectoff and -6 I could flash BIOS version 94.02.42.80.27. Thanks to orez-bus for the notice, that only with this bios he could reach the 500W.
Port Royal benchmark result: 14.611 (119%, +150, +800, max. voltage, stock cooler) (AMD 5950X no overclock, Asus Crosshair VIII Dark Hero).
So everything is fine? I think so... But I'm not so sure that I got exchange within the special OC campaign (BIOS versions, red lips - but new 1.0 at the retention tab).
Best, Thirty-Thirty
Have you gained performance with the apparent boost in power? There's got to be a reason they segmented the PCI ID on these cards. Please note this is 'seems to work for me' status. No warranties expressed or implied.
Time Spy with old card: 18.814 (435W max. - GPU-Z) Time Spy with exchanged card: 19.285 (500W reached - GPU-Z) 5950X non OC, 3090 stock cooler (air), same Precision X1 settings

For those of you doing the 3090oc rma for the hybrid just letting you guys know that my replacement shipped out today and should be here tomorrow. I'll update you guys on whether it is a new one, a refurb, and if it is indeed a revised version or not. Hopefully there is no going back and forth to get the correct revision as some have had to do.

SN should start with 21 but be advised that that is true even for refurb cards... as for BIOS version just use GPU-Z program it will also show you if you have power balancing issues as even my original card 2112 has that issue as well. Cards which should be OK and with revised VRM should have 1.0 on PCIE slot, cards with 0.1 are original design (problematic one)

Even with the new revised card I only get 468 watts max. I tried going to the old bios but it will not flash onto my card. Is this common on the new cards. It’s still a hell of an overclocker.

Well your stats prety much are valid for RMA mainly due to PCIE slot W usage. If you want to start special RMA write email to 3090OC@evga.com that way you will get revised card. kind regards Tomas

The new cards are not necessarily meant to reach the 500w. Some do and some don't. The issue they are solving with this revision is the pcie power draw.

I am talking to the 3090oc@evga.com support right now. The asked me to register my product, I hope they will help me get the new revision. Is it worth to do the procedure if I'm hitting 500+ watts? I'm mostly concerned about the pcie 80+ watts, is it something dangerous? I mean to my card or other components?

Where can I find information on the switch the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 ULTRA has? There is a normal - OC switch What is difference? How does each mode work? In the normal mode can you use MSI Afterburner to OC? in OC mode can you use MSI Afterburner to OC? Do you need to use water block in OC mode? liquid cooling?

Based on above I am happy with EVGA RMA support (only pity that first PCB generation seems like BETA test but they are doing RMA if you ask for it) … Right now, I do hope that this card will stick with me for a long time…
Kind regards Tomas
Hi Tomas! Im new to this forum! What does the new serial number start with? I bought 3090 fwt3 ultra it came with black lip and my serial number starts with 2112 and it cane with the 500w bios but im not sure which version.
What version should i install? Whats the newest one
Hi again!
I just looked at my card I have 0.1 I will upload a picture it draws 80+w on pcie
Well your stats prety much are valid for RMA mainly due to PCIE slot W usage. If you want to start special RMA write email to that way you will get revised card. kind regards Tomas
They answered me with this. What should I do?

Regular RMA then, and let them know that you'll be RMAing until that third party software reads 67W or under, like all properly functioning PCIE compliant video cards do.

A little update on my replacement hybrid. Pcie never exceeds 66w and it's pulling around 485w with an OC that hits 2085mhz. Could probably push it further but I'm happy with where it is at. My previous card would not pull over 420w and would max out around 2025mhz (stable). I undervolted my replacment to 2085mhz @987mV and it is pulling around 468w and it keeps the temps in the mid 50s (room temp is currently 26C...I live in a really hot area) during Port Royal Stress Test-20 loops. This is with 4 ml120s 2400rpm fans set up in push/pull as top exhaust. Overall very happy with the replacement.

I can't seem to update my vbios on my 3090 FTW3 Ultra model. It keeps on telling me there is no compatible display adapter found I don't have anything running in the background when I try its a frensh windows installation. Any tips? Tried both in OC mode and normal mode all giving the same error.

Don't give up... they have provided you with out of spec card which violates PCIE standard. Also argument that you should be using voltmeter is void unless the admit that internal sensors on the card does not provide accurate information. Note that PCIE standard is 75W (tops) which consist from (12V and 3.3V) GPU-Z measures only 12V thus the exact W slot usage may be over 90W. Also please note that regular RMA will grant you most probably refurb card of the same PCB version. If I would you I would insist on 3090OC or specifically requested that replacement card has PCB 1.0 (revised controller) kind regards Tomas

I am just guessing that you are using VBIOS from this part of the forum thus it should be applied only to OLD cards. NEW cards has already XOC bios on them but mostly not RE-BAR one.

Thank you very much for all help Tomas! I insisted to rma this card. They have not replied yet, but I will not give up. They should provide the high end card I I have paid for. Best regards Taulant

How would I know if my card has the xoc bios? I don't see anywhere near 500watts being pulled in OC mode and in evga precision x it's telling me that there is a firmware/bios update but whenever I click update the program just crashes.

good... do for them same test and Board power usage set to AVG that will show you if your card is actually capable to reach and hold 500W... Max value is not relevant if card is not able to maintain level of performance.

Hi EVGA, I'm a dual 3090 FTW Ultra EVGA buyer, I have had this problem with these cards for a long time, however it still keeps happening. 1. I have 2 cards, both are 0.1REV, one of them pulling more than 80W on the PCIe slot, the other around 70+W. However, it's not a problem if it keeps working, in my case, they crash so often, because I use dual of the card for my rendering work, if one card crashes, the other disappears from the machine as well. 2. How do I fix it? Restart doesn't work, I have to pull the power cable out of 2 cards, keep the cards in the PCIe slot without the cables, run my PC with onboard graphics, wait for a day, plug the powers in again and they both work again, however it keeps crashing which is extremely annoying. They crash more than 10 times in less than 3 months. I have another working machine with 2 3090 MSI, both of the cards never pull more than 25W from PCIe and they never have this problem. So I write this to please help me with this, it takes too much time. I bought 2 cards from a contributor to Vietnam, how do I describe the problem to them? Then I can change to a new version which doesn't have this annoying problem anymore.
