What's the rest of your system specs?

Curious as I have a OC 8700k to 5.1ghz, 32gb RAM, 3080 ftw 3 Ultra, 850w PSU evga nova G+ and they recommend a MINIMUM 850w.

jankerson
Took the wattage measurements with the new 450W bios using my Corsair HXI 850

From the PSU to the PC, NOT from the wall.
NOT OCED, just power slider on 118% in PX1.

Doesn't include power spikes.

Gaming load = 630W
MAX full system load = 715W

Soooo  those of us who bought the 3090's get pushed to the back burner?    Wow.  I've been back on Asus after a poor experience and this was my first EVGA buy in many years.

Very disappointed here knowing I spent 1800 dollars and nvidia doesn't seem to care I can't even run my G9 Odyssey at 240hz when 2000 series could,    EVGA doesn't seem to care that the strix is likely going to beat it,  and we get thanked for our money by 3080 users getting their updated bios first.

we are getting a new 3090 ftw3 beta bios next week!!!

edit: let me rephrase "We have an XOC in testing right now, no promises just yet but will update next week."

man oh man if we get a 480 bios i will be stoked. 520 would be supreme though but im unsure they want to go that high as it may compete with the kingpin

I can't really see much justification for the KPE this go-around...the 3x8pin cards already seem to have a stout enough VRM to handle >500W with ease.  (Or just get any of the Asus cards....even the 2x8 pin ones have KPE level VRM)

They didn't put you on the back burner. The 3080 came out first thus first support and more time for testing so it was released.

So I applied this on my OC bios switch and works great.  My question is since this is 'beta' and will never be released as a normal firmware update - where do these bios upgrades get pushed to on the EVGA site once they are out of beta? Just this one forum post?

I cant speak for EVGA, but since Jacob listed this as an "XOC" beta VBIOS, I'd wager money that it will remain a forum post only thing and not a default install on cards.

The beta/XOC moniker absolves them of having to RMA the card if your particular card doesn't work well with it, but works fine with the stock VBIOSes.

No I have a life and don't sit reading responses from strangers on forums :P

I looked on the driver page, checked the forums and searched.   There is no download link for the 3090.   There is NO reason why there shouldn't be.

We literally spent an extra stupid expensive premium that's really not THAT much better than the 3080 for gaming and those extra FPS. (advertised as gaming GPU mind you)

This is bull and while I love the card,  I was truly hoping they'd surprise us with something like some unlocked power that makes the 3090 dwarf the 3080 and inevitable 3080 20gb /ti.

I'm coming from a "last chance nVidia"  standpoint anyways.   If AMD ever doesn't suck,  I'd switch in a second if they pull a TITAN X,  1080ti, TITAN, XP   scheme again.    Worth noting I've been a nvidia fan boy since the MX440 64mb AGP card.    Only had one Radeon and it didn't last long (hd4870)

Here's the best scores I can manage, these are all with the default BIOS and portable A/C assistance. I think now that my card has bedded in these unicorn runs are a thing of the past because I can't get close to them anymore even with the new BIOS, it simply isn't hitting the same overclocks that I could fresh out of the box. Maxed voltage or not, I simply cannot get a clean run in 3dmark at those clock speeds anymore.

"Use at your own risk" Means they ain't gonna ship this as something that will auto install.  Until they make a final version, there's zero chance they'd make this something that auto installs.  Even then it will likely be optional because they don't want un-educated users frying their cards in cases with zero airflow and a 850W ancient PSU.

If you don’t have “time to read” that’s on you, not Evga. And that “strangers” post was a tweet from Jacob.

Stop cluttering the thread with your useless entitled complains, this is a feedback thread for the 3080 XOC bios, if you have nothing to contribute to it rather than complain, then start a thread for it. You know since were told your 3090 XOC bios is coming soon, bye bye.

Why would there be? The XOC BIOS thread was literally created due to EVGA stating the 3080 FTW3 Ultra would have 420W PL but shipped with 400W. This did not happen with the 3090.

Advertised as an "8K gaming GPU" which any sane person knew was a complete BS marketing tactic.
If you read any reputable review such as GamersNexus of the 3090, you would of known that the 3090 was bad value over the 3080 if you wanted it purely for gaming. It was advertised as an "8K" gaming card because NVIDIA knew it wasn't going to "dwarf" the 3080 in lower resolutions.

It would be far more beneficial if you created a new thread and provided constructive feedback rather than complain about it on the 3080 threads.

I would like to report some odd behavior that has occurred with this BIOs. For some reason, when I boot my PC up, Fan#3 will spin at 100% until my PC starts and Precision X1 tells it to calm down. Anyone else experiencing this?

This bios here, the XOC one.

Edit: okay it's not doing it anymore. It must have remembered a setting from when I benchmarked it with 100% fan speed

Does the new 450W BIOS let you control all 3 fans properly in MSI Afterburner?

Re: EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 (3897) XOC BIOS BETA 2020/10/17 08:19:43 (permalink)
So I have the 3090 ftw3 gaming not the 3080 BUT we both have the same 450w limit.

I was playing around last night and noticed something, my card can handle ridiculous memory overclocks and ridiculous core overclocks but not both at the same time because they are competing for power.
Actually let me rephrase, they run fine but i get score regression

So take a look at this port royal run i had last night https://www.3dmark.com/pr/407968

Clock frequency 2,190 MHz (1,395 MHz)
Average clock frequency 2,106 MHz
Memory clock frequency 1,332 MHz (1,219 MHz)
Average memory clock frequency 1,332 MHz

So you could say I have a golden chip. I ran this bench with +200 core but the max I could run on memory is +900. Even though I can easily run 1050 on memory If i so much as run 925 i get score regressions. UNLESS I lower core clock then i can run memory a lot higher... my issue isnt temps or stability, they seeming need more power and hit and then bounce of power limiter

I really hope they go with 480-520w for the 3090 because we can really use it

Does the new 450W BIOS let you control all 3 fans properly in MSI Afterburner?

That's a MSI afterburner limitation that MSI would have to correct with their software.

Can I flash the “Normal” 450w bios into the OC switch on my card? Reason being I don’t like the OC default bios fan curve. This way normal will be the stock bios and OC can be the 450w bios with normal can curve.

I assume the 450w normal bios has the same fan curve as the stock bios correct?

I‘m pretty happy with this Port Royal score of 12509 ... +150 core, +1000 memory, with both power and voltage sliders at max.

compuclinicSoooo  those of us who bought the 3090's get pushed to the back burner?

#evgaloyalty?  lol

No I have a life and don't sit reading responses from strangers on forums :P

Whiny crybaby who throws a tantrum that he can't have a new BiOS right now this minute. And then you can't even bother to read the thread you have a sad emotional outburst in, to find out a BIOS is being worked on and coming.
