Can I flash the stock bios back now? I tested the OC one, then flashed the "normal" one. But normal one has still the 118% PT. My hardware slider is set to right (guess thats stock?) With slider set to left, I get around 10% lower score in timespy... With this bios overall im getting some % lower score.

Would really appreciate more info on this just so it's clear. -What is the difference from this new "Normal" vbios and the one currently on the card in the "Normal" switch position? Does this also have an altered power limit? In which case, what is the difference between this and the new "OC" position vbios? -Is there any reason a person couldn't just leave the original vbios in place, and only change the vbios in the OC position? -Could this process be reverted in the same manner easily? Thank you!

The difference between Normal/OC vbios switches is fan curves. The OC switch uses a more aggressive fan curve and doesn't shut off. With the new vbios, they changed the power limit from 400W to 450W. What I did was simply replace the OC vbios with the new one as it didn't really make sense to have a switch that only changed fan curves. So if I switch back to normal, I would have a 400W limit with standard fan curve. Hope this helps!

I can still hit the 450w limit, need more power, give us the full 525w that triple 8 pin and cpu slot can give us.

Ain’t that the truth. Although, I might just go complete 3090 waterblock this time around.

Kind of an odd statement. If they had just made the power limit what was promised to begin with they wouldn't have needed to do this. Surely doing it right from the start is better.
Lol, the promised one was 420w, they’re giving us an even better one, let’s be grateful.

Reedey No matter what I do with this bios, my card still seems to peg itself at 400W. Max power, max voltage, overclocked or not. 400W is all she will do.
Did you power cycle your computer?
Yep, the sliders update to allow 118% max power but the card runs at exactly the same power levels as before. just bouncing around 390-400W dring a run. I am back to the original bios and am getting better scores at lower overclocks now so it's not all bad. My overclocking efforts have been stunted, but the real world daily performance of the card is actually better. So it's not all bad :)
That’s weird, after update mine does climb past 430-440ish. I did notice though in order to push that watts I had to overclock. Are you just maxing the wattage sliders and nothing else? If so, try overclocking the core amd memory and you will definitely see the card sucking more power.

ajreynol And now that I've read about the Ampere +TSMC news...I'm getting the feeling I won't be able to use Step Up for a 20GB 3080. Rumors had put such a launch in December, but if they're shifting the entire process to TSMC (they are), I can't imagine those cards will be available until maybe in February/March. Well beyond a Step Up window for my current card. So now the question is simply: 2 HDMI ports (Strix) vs possible Step Up to a 480W Samsung-based 3090 (EVGA). And either way...will I be looking to sell my current card to get a superior TSMC variant? Cooler, quieter cards with possibly lower power draw.
Don't be so sure that the 20GB and the 7nm are going to be the same upgrade. We could easily see the 20GB 8nm in Dec and a 3080/3090 Super next year with 7nm and memory that actually clocks to 21.5Gbps. The other possibility is that the 7nm card is a new Titan or A series workstation and not related to the current cards.
Exactly, I have no idea what to expect from these next cards. It will definitely be interesting.

I guess we should be grateful Asus went with 450w which put pressure on EVGA to match or beat it. Man my patience is waning quick seeing all these excited posts from people playing with new GPU's but I keep telling myself the longer I have to wait the closer we are to Hybrid/Kingpin... my wallet is getting goosebumps tho...

Yep tried all of that and still no luck. I am picking up a 1000W power supply this arvo so maybe my 750W is holding it back? I doubt it, but who knows.

ATTN: VOLTAGE SLIDER There are several posts in this thread where people are having trouble maintaining higher clocks or drawing higher power. In addition to actually overclocking the core, you need to (X1) increase the core voltage % slider to 100% or (Afterburner) *enable in settings* and increase core voltage slider to 100%. This will set the max vcore higher. On my 2080 Ti it has the following steps: 0% = 1.068v MAX 25% = 1.075v MAX 50% = 1.081v MAX 75% = 1.087v MAX 100% = 1.093v MAX You can test this for yourself on the 3080 by applying a peak in the voltage-frequency graph (locking voltage), then seeing if it will hit that voltage as you adjust the slider. Typically you will get better stability at higher voltages, higher power will allow you to maintain higher voltages, thus allowing you to run higher clocks. You may need to lock in at higher voltages to be stable at high clocks. If you don't crank up this slider, you will never get the better results some people are posting (12.3K Port Royal and up).

https://www.evga.com/about/contactus/ They've got a 24/7 tech support section (US), so they can probably email it out to you quickly if you give them a call.

What PSU are you using? Sounds like a power issue. As for reverting, you would have to use nvflash with the normal oc vbios file (assuming you backed up). If not, you can do a temporary workaround by shutting down your PC then flipping the vbios switch in other direction. So if its currently set to Normal then set the switch to OC. If its set to OC then set the switch to Normal. Make sure to do this ONLY when the system is completely powered off then power it back on.

There's a problem. Updates have been made for each switch. When the computer is turned off, the normal switch is converted to an OC switch and the computer is turned on. Even though the computer is an OC switch, the BIOS of the normal switch is taken.

Sounds like you either A. Didn't flash the new vbios properly with the OC switch enabled OR B. Flashed the normal vbios with the OC switch enabled. Redownload the new OC vbios and run the update again after making sure you are in OC mode (switch set to left).

Interesting...So you did the following 1. Flashed both Normal/OC vbios with beta. 2. Switched to Normal vbios using switch. 3. Launched Precision X1 which showed OC vbios version. 4. Launched GPU-Z which showed Normal vbios version. Is this correct? If so, can you see what happens when you use OC switch? Do both Precision X1 and GPU-Z report wrong version? Can you also do the following 1. Switch to Normal vbios using switch. 2. Launch GPU-Z 3. Click Advanced Tab. 4. Select NVIDIA BIOS from dropdown. 5. Take screenshot of Power limit so we can see if the beta vbios is actually being used with 450W PL.

Weird, he must have had something wrong. I flashed the normal on normal switch and oc on oc switch and both work fine. I can tell because I switch to normal, fans stop below 50 c. Switch to oc, fans are always one and more aggressive and BOTH ARE 450w. You’re using the switch with the computer off right? (don’t flip the switch with the pc on...).
Maybe it’s just the names that are fumbled, but are noticing the change on fans speeds and behaviors like i do? It’s all it does, just change how aggressive the fans are..
