Hi Guys, Im in a dilema here :) would you guys share your opinion between the 2 cards on which is better for both general purpose and intensive gaming (no overclocking required) from out of the Box. EVGA GTX 680 EVGA GTX 670 FTW now looking at the specifications of both seems like the only difference between the 2 card is that the 670 FTW slightly has a higher Memory Clock Speed but slightly less CUDA Cores (or Pixel Pipelines) and due to its higher memory clock, the total memory bandwidth of the 670 FTW is slightly higher than the reference 680. So would you guys give your opinions on which is better? you may also consider the price point if you want, but im more intrested on the performance part.

The 680 will give you the best performance hands down.

http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/40613-evga-geforce-gtx-670-ftw/ The 670 FTW and the reference 680 are virtually the same in the benchmarks tested with 680 winning some and 670 FTW winning some. I made the same decision a few months ago and there really wasn't anything to consider one was or the other performance wise, just the money I saved with the 670.

There is one thing you may have overlooked. The 680 will get performance increases through drivers, I'm sure the 670 will too but the 680 will be more optimized in the end thus giving more performance than a 670.

Get the 670 FTW and spend that $100 you saved by not buying the 680 GTX on something else. Check the benchmarks and decide if it's really worth $100 more for a few more fps. The 670 FTW is a vanilla 680 GTX costing $100 less.

If cost isn't the issue, the 690 would be the most powerfull single PCI-e slot card you can get.... .... and it was manufactured as a top-tier quality level piece of art and it just happens to also be a video card

yep as others have said, 670 FTW is the best bang for you buck. delivering 90-95% performance of a 680 for 20% cheaper. now is that whether that 5% performance is worth your 80~90 bux difference, is up to you to decide. which is the better card, PERIOD? 680, which card is more worth it IMO? the 670 FTW.

We're all different in terms of deciding what is worth it. For instance, I go by percentages, I will weight the maximum fill rate (number of cores multiplied by the frequency) against the cost and make a decision that way. Those who can afford the best don't see cost at all, thus justify the best every time; which defeats the purpose of making comparisons like the ones you ask. Just so you know, maximum fill rate only shows itself in fully GPU-intensive apps, so there will be some games or resolution or details where the performance between two cards makes no sense. For instance, GTX680 and GTX590 trade blows in many review while averages the same, but the fill rate of GTX680 is 20% higher than GTX590, that difference never shows itself in real world apps that aren't fully GPU-intensive. Another instance, reference GTX670 has a 25% lower fill rate than GTX680, yet in many games the performance with GTX680 is almost on par, averaging 10% less-- this percentage is almost completely accounted for in the difference in core frequency, before boost, of GTX670's 915MHz and GTX680's 1006MHz. Therefore, since GTX 670 FTW has the same frequency as the reference GTX680, the performance difference with a reference GTX680 is going to be close to negligible, for $100 cheaper. Since they are both capable of having 4GB models and 4-way, it is up to you in the end though I think you'll get the 680 anyway.

Just go with the 680 4gb... In 4-5 years when you need to upgrade, just grab another 680 4gb and put it in sli... Vioala, saved moni and will still have awesome system. Also I'm sure in 4-5 years sli tech will become much more advanced then it is now.

Go with the 680 which is not a partial cripple Kepler, you have all the SM cores enable and not to mention you can over clock your 680 easily and can beat 670 FTW speeds. Hands down with the 680. I got my GPU overclock +100 offset and get speeds up to 1197 Mhz and I bet it can do a lot more.

I say get the 680 SC Signature 2. It has been very good to me, but I don't have any personal experience with a 670. I did the same research & forum hopping that you are probably doing & the 680 was the better long term card and overclocks quite handsomely! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130797 Wow, now there's a $20 rebate :).

They are close, 670FTW vs 680FTW, Using my system 980x and a single 680FTW 4GB at stock setings. Heaven test Same settings tess extreme 8xAA 16x 1920x1080 FPS 47.9 Score 1203 3Dmark11 P9988 Single 680FTW stock My i7980x @ 3987MHz vs i72600 @ 4700MHz used in the test above, if I were to crank my 980x up to 4.7GHz I'd probably be at P11,000. It's just to hard to say with these test since they are different systems, If you plan in keeping the card for 2-3yrs before you upgrade I'd get a 680 4GB but if you plan on jumping to the latest and greatest as soon as it comes out I'd just get a 670 to hold you over, I'm sure down the road with newer games and drivers the 680 will be the better choice.

The 680 is faster clock for clock, but most of the time the 670 FTW's can clock considerably higher meaning in the end performance is a lot of times a wash. Regardless, the fact that the question has to be asked as to which is faster coupled with the 670 FTW being $80 cheaper should make the decision a no-brainer.

I'm in the same boat as the OP as well. I'm kind of leaning toward the 680.

HAZMAN_THE_GREAT LOL 680 of course. It has more cores than a 670. +1 Sajin
The 680 will give you the best performance hands down.

The 670 FTW and the reference 680 are virtually the same in the benchmarks tested with 680 winning some and 670 FTW winning some.
Also you start off at a higher bace GPU clock for OC. Bace memory clock is not as inportent as bace gpu clock IMO. I have 3 680's and all 3 will hit 132%, 200 MHz, 500 Mhz.
