Update on my black screen issue. (No video output at all from power on.) I did RMA my original 3080 FTW3 Ultra and received the replacement GPU. I installed it and that card had the same issue. I was pretty ticked at that point, but as a last ditch effort, I decided to take out my vertical mount and install the card directly to the MB. The card worked flawlessly. Problem solved. I never gave the vertical mount a thought because my 2070 worked fine with it. I knew the riser cable was Gen 3 not Gen 4, but my understanding was that it should work. Yesterday I decided to check Amazon and see if there were any Gen 4 cables available. There are, but in reading the questions and reviews I found that many other people have had the same issue with the 30 series cards. I did purchase a new Gen 4 cable that is reported, by users, to have fixed the issue. Just updating so that others having the same issue have a possible solution. I didn't see anything on any forum with this information

I may have to try this, I use a vertical GPU mount as well and had considered that the riser cable might be the issue, but it's supposed to be a high quality one so I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Which riser cable did you end up ordering?

I upgraded to the LINKUP - Ultra PCIe 4.0 X16 Riser Cable. I just installed it this morning and it works perfectly.

Hot dang I have been plagued by this error crashing games intermittently, changed to pci gen 3 (from auto) and looks to have fixed it! Will get a gen 4 riser at some point i guess. Thanks Ben

Yes. Windows 11 is not going to eliminate the vast majority of issues..which are due to hardware, game engine, various drivers, firmware, BIOS and anti-virus and of course numero uno: PEBKAC. The last crash I had was months ago and was caused by a bad Bluetooth driver. I do not have a magical system or a special 'No Crash' version of Windows. It's a wonder it works at all with the literally BILLIONS of different combinations, practically infinite configurations it is expected to work flawless with. Even game consoles crash. A little perspective and perhaps a look at your own configuration, if you're not 100% stable.

Funny how this is still a thing 2 gens after my 1080 I have this issue with. Randomly the gpu won't display when the monitor is woke up. It's done this with several different monitors, cables and computer builds over the years. If I change the monitor input windows will tone a disconnected device. Then when I return the monitor input back to DP low and behold i have picture again. Been pretty annoying TBH and it's a shame there are still black screen issues all these years later.

Did you install the Nvidia 1080 "firmware patch" for 10 series & the Other cards on the list? NVIDIA Graphics Firmware Update Tool for DisplayPort 1.3 and 1.4 Displays If your using a DP cable make sure it is "certified" https://www.displayport.org/products-database/ If your monitors have "Deep sleep" disable it Look for firmware updates to your monitors Unplug Monitors, then reattach power plug ... do they wake-up ? Troubleshooting black or blank screens in Windows 10(excerpt) If you experience a black or blank screen on your Windows 10 device, try the following: - To wake the screen, use one of the following keyboard shortcuts: Windows logo key + P or Ctrl + Alt + Del
