I just dont like the layout of the ram slots.

I agree with you,  but the location of the ram makes sense when it comes to heat spreading. It will keep both memory sticks and memory slots cooler compare to the traditional four slots stacking..and to me, that is a big win since the CPU alone will be the hottest part inside your case and the socket alone covers 1/4 of the board

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Jacob can you be our lighthouse in order to guide the SR-2 fellow crowd? In my case I use the SR-2 for the science not for gaming and need to plan some upgrades to the labo with new mobos and chips but you know what economy is and obtain some funds to the project or by the government or a sponsor here is Europe is mission imposible.
I can ask you what can you say or speak a little beyond about a future SR-3 (i know that is probably under NDA)if it is based on lga 2011 or a g34 4 socket based on Interlagos or what it will be in order the fellow EVGA SR-2 crowd could plan the funds or steps to have the machines ready when it comes avaliable.

I would love to see a 3 socket motherboard made specifically for folding
2 CPUs to fold on and the 3rd for the GPUs
And the motherboard able to handle 8 GPUs at once

The successor to the SR-2 has dual socket LGA2011. EVGA isn't really into the server motherboard business. For that, choose Tyan.

Think i'll wait on the 4-way SLI version LGA2011. After using a Classified E762 4-way SLI mobo, i really wouldn't want a board that could hold any less.

Agreed. It seems like downgrading capabilities unless it can match the slot configuration. I'll hold out for the E762 replacement myself. My E762 has a lot of life left in it.

@Agression Prime since I know about EVGA on December 2010 i´m totally loyal to EVGA buying a lot of stuff for the labo(primary graphics cards and motherboards) except the 2 Sandy Bridge 2600k due to delay which choosed Asrock P67 Extreme6 but have a g210 and gt430 and is running as a frontend and backend linux servers.
Tyan is expensive and could not obtain the performance friendly like SR-2 for the CUDA simulations of the 4way sli GTX470 thats why i´m looking for some info about the future SR-3.
A 4p/2p g34/c32 6200/4200 Opteron Interlagos/Valencia with full overclock support will be an option for EVGA but probably is now out of specs.

So spot some SR-3 info will make me and the enthusiast SR-2  community happy because Jacob is the man who has partly the key to the dark side of the socket :P.

4 Dimms is probably going to be standard on 90% of motherboards (my opinion) there will of course be the crazy mobo's w/ 8 Dimm slots, one of which may even be the EVGA classy

I'm sure lehpron has some insight on that. It would have to be an AMD setup anyway, unless you want to spring for LGA1567.

The placement of the Ram slots are a choice because the Ivy CPU has a dual dual memcontroller. It's just easier for manufacturing. and more efficient.

Okay, just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean it won't be done, but to build such a product there needs to be demand beyond just your fantasy of it, unless you want to pay for the entire development? You tell me, why should a company spend money an make the product?  The way it works in the real world is that demand must pre-exist and companies like to push products into this space.  No company spends millions on the hope something sells, they need return on investment, they need gaurantees.

Here are my thoughts:
  1. Not even AMD/Intel have options for triple-CPU chipset diagrams on their websites, nor have a Opteron/Xeon series meant solely for 3-way use.  Not providing the option is part of the reason why a 3-way board doesn't exist.
  2. AMD and Intel are aware that not all sockets have to be filled with CPUs to function, for Intel the requirement is two for operation, I image AMD has similar rules.  Though keep in mind, customers of quad-socket don't just buy one board, they get dozens or hundreds, maybe thousands.  In that case, why get less that four CPUs for each of all those boards?  This pretty much answers why there isn't a 3-way CPU board = not cost effective for most customers.
  3. Multi-socket boards are symetrical designs.  A triple-socket cannot be a from-the-ground-up design without costing way more than a quad-socket board.  How many add-in slots would you sacrifice just so you could keep your favorite case?
  4. Cheapest way to make it is to get a quad-socket PCB and just not stamp in the fourth CPU and RAM quadrant, but pre-existing socket configurations aren't best, they won't fill the void in the corner.  We're talking about giant motherboards with one side a bit over 16-inches on either AMD's LGA1944 or Intel's LGA1567.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

I can't wait to see what other designs evga come up with, and I look forward to seeing the rest of this particular board!

Don't forget a well placed x1 slot for people who like their dedicated sound cards and still run lots of video cards

The only thing worrying me though about Socket 2011 is that supposedly it's still going to be PCI-E 2.0... so no native 4 x16 slots :( The issue is supposedly that intel doesn't have any PCI-E 3.0 boards and hence can't test things. So rather than delay the chip they'll just launch it with PCI-E 2.0.

I'd love to be proved wrong though! Native 4-way x16 slots would be awesome

* To clarify, the native 4way x16 slots occur because 4 x8 3.0 slots have equivalent bandwidth to 4 x16 2.0 slots

Will there be a classified version of this board Jacob? Pretty please.

Of course

It's pretty clear the pictured board is a basic LE version based on the color skim, heat sink and plain mobo pwr /reset/cmos clr buttons on the board. there should be no doubt a Classy is in the works.
Crusheddream

So 4 dimms is all these boards will have? where is the PCI 1x located?  asking because of soundcards

4x4GB kits of quad channel DDR3 should be plenty for anyone but I'm sure we'll be seeing so 4x8GB kits before to long and I would not rule out seeing some eight slot boards either.
All PCIe sockets are backward compatible with x1 cards no matter if it's 16x, 8x or 4x so I don't understand your point.
The only concern being how it effects SLI users which shouldn't be much of an issue with the Sandy Bridge-E architecture with it's 32+ lane PCI-Express 2.0 hub on die and X79,s 8 GB/s of bandwidth awesome possibilities here vs the DMI (physical PCI-Express 2.0 x4) of P67

The LE version isn't drool worthy but may cause penal envy for those who don't adopt
