I love my Asus Rampage III, rock solid for the past year and a half.

It has status LEDs everywhere.. when there is a problem its so easy to troubleshoot, etc. plus it looks great in a case with a window.. looks like a cockpit with all the LEDs.

Definitely my next board will also be Asus.. no offense to Evga (boards) but what i've seen coming out doesn't impress me all that much.

Thanx for the input scubs, I used to have a R2E for a month - unfortunately it had a "warm boot" issue so I RMAd it and the egg did not have a replacement so they refunded. I was very impressed with it otherwise. The EVGA mobo felt very lacking and plain-jane in comparison. In all fairness it was also the vanilla E758 - X58 3x SLI so like comparing a Cadillac to a Taurus here. That said, I have seen the pics & specs of the EVGA classys and I have to say I was not impressed at all either. Once you go Asus ROG RxE, you never want to go otherwise, do you?

But I do appreciate the comment, it kind of helps cement my resolve to get one.

Although Newegg has good customer support I can't say the same for ASUS (based on my personal experiences) so if you have to deal with them directly I can only wish you the best of luck. I prefer EVGA myself and not because I'm a mod. However, if EVGA were not in the motherboard business I would rather trust Gigabyte than ASUS any day of the week. My next choice after that would be a tie between ASRock and Intel's own motherboards.

Thanks that means a lot coming from a Mod.
But I agree that EVGA & Gigabyte have the best customer support.
EVGA deff has build quality in there as well.
Asus has a large advertising budget since they are technically a larger company compared to EVGA/GA due to them selling other items such as laptops/computers etc.
Im afraid that if an ASUS product were to die on me how long the RMA process would take.

Id deff have to compare EVGA/Asus/Ga on their price points/features for these boards coming out soon before I make my purchase.

Well the Asus websites (except forum) have been all screwed up all day. Not instilling much more confidence in Asus. Can't load half the pages, often the home page won't even work - usa.asus.com & www.asus_com.

And that one has these awesome tidbits:

My excitement is not cooling off AT ALL!

New info here:
Asus RAMPAGE IV EXTREME/BF3 (RAMPAGE IV ... - LA Systems (pdf)
puts the price of the R4E at 395.96 Euros = $545.46. But that's the European version.

I'm with ya!  It's either this board or the EVGA one, and I don't know how long I can hold out for the latter.

My TX-10 will have an SR-3/Asus dual socket board one one side and the other side might have one of these.

Or a UD5. both are awesome looking boards.

$484 US currently the top price.  $450-ish is the rest of them.

No, nobody is selling them (with stock).  But you can preorder them in a few places.  I will wait for Newegg next week.

Woah that OC key is pretty nifty, plus this board comes with Bluetooth awesome. loving the 4SATA III and 4SATA II ports as well :] now waiting to see what kind of waterblocks are released.

Also wasen't there a rumor about how every RIVE board purchase comes with a free copy of BF3?

Re:ASUS Rampage IV Extreme 2011/11/12 07:44:30 (permalink)
boredgunner

I'm interested in the X79 WS Revolution.  Their X58 WS lineup had higher quality audio chipsets.

Well boredgunner you may have your X79 WS Revolution before any of us has our Rampage IV Extreme. If you look at the Asus forums the P9X79 WS is now a selectable option, the R4E is not. Unfortunately, this is an (unreliable) indicator that the P9X79 WS will launch before the R4E. Maybe it's just a fluke, IDK. Personally, I don't need good onboard sound as I have a nearly new SB card that does very well to xfer to the new mobo.

On a less personal note, to everybody; yes I read just how little the new SB-E procs edge out the old X79 procs. If you are upgrading from X58 and expect a big much faster difference, think again. The leaked benchmarks show the speed is not significantly faster than the 990x - at stock speeds.

For me this upgrade is about these points, somewhat in the order of my priorities:
  1. The new awesome OC key for OCing.
  2. Upgrading to 6-cores. Yes, I could do this with my present board.
  3. SATA 3: I just upgraded to Crucial M4 SSD, lightning fast I/O W/SATA 6Gb/s as opposed to my old E758 3Gb/s.
  4. The new multi-phase CPU power for more stable and level CPU voltage control, theoretically allowing higher OC (for those who have sufficient cooling).
  5. Being able to help other ppl W/their X79 OC and other general probs.
  6. The other awesome R4E board features.

Well I see the Asus site now lists it's full line of X79 boards:

Asus socket 2011 motherboards

And the link to the R4e:

Asus Rampage IV Extreme

But Newegg does not presently have any socket 2011 motherboards nor CPUs.
Microcenter has Asus P9X79 Pro, i7-3960X and 3930K ($650!).
I have no time to search for stock elsewhere, and my Internet is being screwy tonight.

EDIT:
jingiko

Just picked mine up off Newegg with a free copy of BF3 :D

http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16813131803

Now I just have to wait for the 3930K to drop in price

What the? I just checked, and checked again, and Newegg does not list any socket 2011 on the left pane!
Nor does it show if you drill down to Asus motherboards!
Newegg fail. (mildly)

Heck, same applies to the 3930K!

Yup, it sure did.   There are two of the R4E (one with BF3, one without).  The one without is 20 bucks less, but both are out of stock now. I am waiting for them to show up on Amazon.  I won't have to pay tax (which on a 1k order is a substantial amount).
Amazon still shows out of stock for all x79 boards.

Ah, you mean it would ship directly from Asus to the end user?  I know I can purchase it now, but sometimes with Amazon, they could get it weeks later.

Yeah that was the risk the OCN member took.
Im sure they'll have more by this week if not deff by Black Friday, and you can always price match it if the price drops.

I bought the last one 5 hrs ago at newegg. :) It went out of stock seconds later. Been eyeing it all day and was out of stock prior till around that time. For some reason an extra showed up as available and grabbed it.

The BF3 version has been up for sale a lot longer than the normal one. Also Newegg has been known to update their inventory up to the hour. So it doesn't hurt to refresh your page and you might just get lucky

Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB.
See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve.

Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.
