Any of you guys that own this board tried updating the bios beyond 604? I tried 703 and 803 and both seem to flash fine then hang at iROG-1 Updating.

i let it run for 3 hours while it ticked up from 0%-100% and when it hit 100 it rebooted and started again. Had to Switch to Bios 2 and copy it over to bios 1. im back running on Bios 1 which is running the 604 launch Bios. I continue to love this board but DEAR GOD I miss eVGA's Tech support on issues like this.

I was able to flash to 0803 with no problems. It updated pretty quickly for me, and didn't hang at all. I would try re-downloading the ROM from ASUS. I used the method of copying the ROM onto my flash drive and accessing it within the BIOS. 0803 is working great for me.

Sweet, I had no idea there was a new BIOS out.  Dled now and will work on it tomorrow.  Thanks for the update!

I wanted to wait to see some EVGA x79 reviews as well before making the jump, waited since the day the 3960x was released and finally couldnt wait, bought the Rampage IV Extreme.

Now the Rampages for the X58s didnt treat me well, OCing sucked and I tried about 15 different 980/990s and the results were always the same, never a good OC so going back to Asus was a bit hard for me, but this Board has totally changed my mind.

Running a 3960x at 4.8 at 1.4 primed 24 hours without a single issue, no thread failures etc, very simple overclock honestly, spent a whole hour maybe.

In the end, Im very impressed with the board! and I cant hear the chipset fan either.

BTW mines waterblocked with the swiftech H320 kit, didnt need a special mount just used the xmount and everything fit perfect, so again Asus did an awesome job.  Temps after 24 hours straight was at 59 Full Load so again I dont think I could be happier

I am the same way. My X79 setup with the R4E has been the most satisfying Ive had in the last 10 years. It has been beyond Rock Solid for me and runs quiet and cool at 4.7ghz 24/7

You said it best man :) I always keep my machine upgraded to latest and greatest, I didnt feel the love on the x58 platform at all, the 980x didnt OC well, the 990 did well on evga, but not sure if you noticed the little weird things.

1.) Under x58 platform right after installing windows, no drivers menus seemed choppy, fast but a choppiness to them, under the x79 its not there
2.) itunes on open would always oc'd or non oc'd would lock for about 4 seconds, my library is about 600GBs with movies, music and tv shows, under x79 instant load
3.) Hard drive space lol

With x58 platform how many times did I have to reseat the cpu or memory etc, this board first time it booted and i started working on it, never had to reseat anything or remove anything off the motherboard etc etc everything just worked on first try.

Everything just runs smoother it feels, everything ive tried worked on first goes, the included software is actually useful believe it or no.

I do hear people saying they have VRM getting to hot and downclocking the CPU, I havent had this issue.  Asus just may have earned a customer back lol but need to use it more first before i make a final call.

I still have TWO evga classys in my closet new in box incase anything happened lol, i had two that had that reboot bug, but I had boot hangs on the rampages on most memory i tried :P

You mention temps, review sites are saying they cant keep things things cooled, but my 990x ran hotter with 1.4v, full load i was hitting 81, the 3960 full at 1.4 is getting 59 average with a couple dips to 60, same water cooler as well

BTW - What is happening with evgas x79 offerings?  I know they are out there, but none of the retailers I use had them, and found no reviews.
