While I am super stoked that I have an Asus R4E sitting right behind me while im at work I would have purchased the FTW/Classified had it been available. EVGA has never treated me wrong and has been 110% awesome when it comes to Support and Assistance.

I peaked at the Asus forums and it was such a mess. EVGA is such an awesome company with a great community.

Same here.  The last few years have all been EVGA (680i, 780i, 790i FTW, X58 SLI) and I've never been let down.  I love this forum as well....by far the best out there.  And the EVGA support in general is superior.  But I wanted to get the ball rolling on my build and have it all in place for this holiday weekend.  So I picked up the RIVE, 16GB of Gskill 2133 Cas 9, and a 3960X.  Koolance rush shipped a set of mounting posts for my 370 block and I had the build assembled this weekend.

The RIVE is a beautiful board.  I thought it might be overkill at first, but I love it now.  Very easy to overlcock.  UEFI is great.  Simple if you want it to be, and complex if you prefer the detail.....Holy heck...you can spend weeks tweaking in the details if you'd like.  I like being able to adjust the fan speed on all of the fan headers individually.  The Asus USB 3.0 Speedburst works great with my external WD HD.  The Asus AI II is pretty decent too, though I prefer clocking through the UEFI. The set up was super smooth and the system is rock solid.  The XMP profile from Gskill works like a charm.  (tried it on 2 sets of ripjaw z series  (2133 and 2400).  Without even pushing hard I'm sitting at 4.8ghz LinX stable with memory at 2133 CAS 9,  DDR @ 1.65, vCore @ 1.3675!!

My only grip is the close proximity of the left side ram slots to the upper PCIE slot.  Not enough room there to mount a RAM cooler the way I prefer.  And you MUST have RAM cooling on the left, or some other form of airflow on your VRM sinks if your going to water cool.  Those puppies can get warm.  That's why a good RAM cooler on the left is important and it serves 2 purposes.

RIVE = awesomeness.  Truly a great board.  I will have hours of fun on this thing.
EVGA = I'm sad.  I would have preferred to stay with EVGA but timing didn't work out.

Just got mine today.  Looks like EK will have a block(s) out for the R4E by the end of November:

News Rampage IV Extreme full board block in the works! - 16/11/2011
EK has already started working on a range of Full Board and Mosfet water blocks for the newly arrived ASUS X79 chipset motherboards.

For the flagship ASUS motherboard Rampage IV Extreme we are preparing a two-block kit FB solution. Sabertooth X79 will also receive a Mosfet motheboard and an optional SB (ICH) waterblock. The P9X79 series motherboard will receive an unified Mosfet waterblock to fit all three motherboards.

ETA on the waterblock varies from model to model. We expect Rampage IV Extreme full board solution to be available by the end of november, followed by P9X79 and Sabertooth X79 in December 2011.

Your EK Team

I will have the cpu under water but I am going to see what kind of heat comes off the mobo before ordering up a full mobo block. I am hopeful it won't be needed.

I'll be using the H80 or H100 for mine but from most reviews, the chipset fan on the Rampage IV is pretty loud and they've listed that as the only "flaw" of the board so a waterblock should have more of an effect on sound than heat.

They must have rabbit ears!  The chipset fan on my RIVE is nearly dead silent.  All I can hear is my AX1200 and memory cooler fans.  The waterblock for the board sounds cool, but eliminating fan noise wouldn't be one of the goals.  I was a little worried about the fan myself when I bought the board but I'm quite pleased with it now.

BS. I am now sitting next to my R4E W/open case, and I don't even hear that fan. As a matter of fact, even with all my fans running the whole thing is pretty daym quiet, and I chose quiet fans. My UPS makes as much noise as my whole rig (except under load). You all have made a big deal out of nothing.

I've got mine up and running and cannot hear the fan....at all.

Also, I read just about every review out there (and there are several) before purchasing and nowhere did I see a mention of a loud fan.  Care to post a link to where you read about the fan problem?  I checked [H] review, Guru3d, HardwareCanuks and a few more.  Just want to make sure this won't be a problem down the road.

Guru3D, Overclock3D.net(they actually put a mic to it) and a few board owners mentioned it on forums. I put flaw in quotation marks because it's just something they pointed out rather than flat out saying it was an actual issue.

Are you talking about the stock CPU cooler? LGA 2011 CPUs presently don't ship with a cooler. It seems you really need a near top-of-the-line cooler to go with traditional air cooling. My Megahalems is fine, even for a mild OC, but I think I will need WC to reach my CPUs easy OC max potential - from what I am hearing. I will find out in a couple of weeks, but I digress.

The overclock3d video review was definitely nitpicking on the PCH fan. When he is recording the fan noise, he has to put the mic millimeters away from the fan. When he moves it away more than a centimeter you can barely hear it. This is the case for me, when I was benching my RIVE the GPU fan was louder than the PCH fan. I can give detractors the point that it is a moving part on the motherboard, as those little fans get really loud when they get old and start to get off-balance.

Agreed regarding when fans get older.....which is why I am considering going with the chipset block when EK releases.  I LOVE this board, but hate chipset fans...they stink.

I have the board now on my DD Torture Rack, with an H100 ready to go.  I was going to test open loop but BOTH blocks I ordered for this are missing the 2011 hardware needed, even with the SOCKET X.  I have the XSPC Raystorm and Swiftech Apogee HD sitting right next to me, missing the new screws (Apogee) and backplate (Raystorm) that I will need to mount.  LOL @ me for believing they were 2011 ready.  Oh well.

EDIT:  I almost forgot, those of you who are using the H100, be careful:  you don't need their backplate (the x one).  Simply use the backplate that comes mounted with the R4E) and the screws that come with the H100 for socket 2011....mounts right on there.  When placing the pump housing on top, it will be TIGHT.

Full stop.  DD Torture Rack with Corsair H100?  How are you mounting the rad?  Got a pic?

I just bought the Corsair H100 for OCing the 3930K and I also use a DD Torture Rack.

I must know how you plan to manage mounting the rad/fans.

Hey there!

Gimme a few, I will post pictures.  I had to cut some 2" 6-32 screws down to 1.4 inches or so to make this work.  The screws that came with the DD TR will not work with the H100 (I'm not planning on it either, this is just until my hardware comes in for my open loop stuff).

Gotcha, yeah I'd like to see whatever you got.  I got the H100 solely for benching as I don't want to spend the cash/time on a water loop of my own right now.  For just gaming and folding I'll probably keep using the EVGA Superclock Cooler or my Megahalems... both seems to pretty well with the 3930K I'm using.

I used 6 total screws to mount (Instead of the normal 8) because the other two would press against the outside of the case and cause problems.  The 6 screws work well, and keep the bottom of fan 1 (on top) pressing against the Rack quite nicely. I used 2 of the long screws from the h100 to secure the top fan (only top two screws) then used 4 6-32 cut screws for the bottom 4 on the bottom fan.

Any of you guys that own this board tried updating the bios beyond 604? I tried 703 and 803 and both seem to flash fine then hang at iROG-1 Updating.

i let it run for 3 hours while it ticked up from 0%-100% and when it hit 100 it rebooted and started again. Had to Switch to Bios 2 and copy it over to bios 1. im back running on Bios 1 which is running the 604 launch Bios. I continue to love this board but DEAR GOD I miss eVGA's Tech support on issues like this.

I was able to flash to 0803 with no problems. It updated pretty quickly for me, and didn't hang at all. I would try re-downloading the ROM from ASUS. I used the method of copying the ROM onto my flash drive and accessing it within the BIOS. 0803 is working great for me.
