Has anyone repasted their EVGA 2080 or 2080ti, and if so what were the results? I'm curious whether what the paste job quality is on these cards and whether immediately repasting with something good like Kryonaut (or liquid metal if you're brave) is worthwhile.

Whenever I get my 2080Ti FTW3 shipped I plan on repasting it with Kryonaut and replacing the thermal pads with Fujipoly Extremes 17W/mK. Will post results hopefully in a week or so 😁

I haven't replaced TIM yet, but it seems as though it's pretty good based off the temps I've been seeing with an XC ultra. That's not to say it couldn't potentially drop a few * with a swap, but I currently have no strong driver to do so with this card, and expect even better results with the FTW3.

Yeah I'll probably do my 2080 XC Ultra regardless, but it will be several weeks before I have a machine to put it in so I figured I'd make a thread and start collecting data. When people do this, please also post pics of the thermal pad layout on the various cards. There may be gains to be made with additional pads, or as mentioned above with better pads.

I'd look for someone from EVGA to confirm the thickness for ram and vrm tim as they have done in the past for optimal performance. I believe Jacob normally goes out of his way to provide the exact dimensions, if requested.

Based on the temps I am hearing it seems to be pretty good on default. I think it’s only really worth it if you are changing the cooler or noticing a problem. Kind of comes down to the issue of knowing it probably won’t overclock any better and the drop in temps not being that large that makes it seem not worth the trouble.

Heavy loaded for days..... Δ T = 40C .... (Delta T of 40C = 40C Over room temp) that with Exceptional airflow through the case - as the sides are off of the case with auxiliary fan moving most of the heat away from GPU cooler fans Closed case will probably be warmer ---> even with "good airflow" as some heat will get recycled back to the GPU cooler

I think you'll benefit from cleaning and replacing the thermal paste. EVGA definitely didn't use too little. Fortunately, they used a non-conductive paste ;). I had mine apart as I got the EVGA water block for it. Here's a photo of the stock thermal paste before I cleaned the card up and an after photo/video. I never was able to get all the paste off of the surface mount components near the GPU. However, it doesn't seem to have affected the operation of the chip/card. I've got it on a Feser TFC X-Changer triple radiator with a swiftech mcp655-b pump and 3x Feser Tribewerk low speed fans 1/2" ID tubing and Feser non-conductive coolant (that stuff saved my bacon a few years ago). It runs a consistent 102f (39c) under full gaming or benchmark load. Ambient room temp is 72f (22.2c). Δ T =30f / 16.8c I water cool primarily to get a near silent PC rather than to get better than factory overclocks. Before Cleaning: dirtygpuafter cleaning: https://youtu.be/kXYKRm93-PUcleangpu

I'm definitely interested in your experience if you don't mind sharing. Specifically what size pads are needed and what your thermal net appears to be from testing. With an aggressive fan curve mine is staying under 65 C at load, but it tappers off quickly from around 2100MHz peak to around 2010MHz after a minute or two. It appears to be directly proportional to temperature, or time, which I expected but I do wonder if keeping the temperature ceiling a bit lower would help sustain the boost clocks over time.

I did when putting on EK block but didn't have a chance to test the card beforehand so not sure about differences. For what it's worth the TIM job looked solid.

I'm still planning on running an initial set of tests on my stock card and then repasting with Kryonaut to get a valid before/after comparison. I just need to get my preordered (on 10/8) 9900K shipped so I can finish my build first. FWIW, it looks like they're using plenty of paste from the factory on all the cards I've seen. Most of the benefits will likely be just their paste versus whatever more thermally conductive paste you put on. So if you're gonna repaste, use the best non-conductive paste you can get.

I've got plenty of Kryonaut so I'll be testing with that sooner or later, I'd expect maybe a few degrees at most.

I re-did the GPU paste with Kryonaut and saw no notable temperature reduction, maybe 1-2 C but really within a margin of error IMO. My recommendation would be to not bother at all honestly.

Finally got around to swapping out my new color trim so I decided to repaste while I had the card out. Used arctic silver ceramique, see no difference from stock. 2080 XC.

I just pulled off my cooler to put on the HC Water Block. This is the Best TIM I have seen yet on a GPU from EVGA, no need at all to replace it.
