So a week and a half ago I received my EVGA 2080 TI XC Ultra from Amazon. Fan 2 would make a click noise when it would first start spinning. I RMA'ed it. Now my 2nd XC Ultra came, and BOTH fan 1 and fan 2 make clicking noises. I unscrewed one fan to see if wires were hitting etc. Cant seem to find the issue. Has anyone else ran into this? Now I am doing a 3rd RMA, an Advanced Cross Ship. This is ridiculous.

Yes, it appears to be common.

https://forums.evga.com/G...perature-m2861206.aspx
It seems that the clicking occurs when the fan start spinning from a stop. It may be "normal" given the design and construction of the fans. I know my deltas make a healthy ratchety sound when they start from a stop thanks to their strong magnets. I mean, it is essentially a stepper motor, after all. It seems that people have used fan curves to "help" the issue by simply making the fan never fully stop. If the fan never fully stops, it will never have the opportunity to make the startup noise.

Yup, have the fan cuves set at a constant slow speed so you aren't getting the start up sound of the fans.  Look like your GPUs were fine after all.

Use this Associate Code at your checkouts or follow these instructions for Up to 10% OFF on all your EVGA purchases:

How is a clicking noise acceptable? I went from 1 fan doing it on the first GPU, to both. Doesn't that seem like an issue?

Maybe it is an issue. You're the judge of that. I guess time will tell. But, at this point, with the data available, it appears to be common.

Does anyone have a fan curve I could model mine after for the time being?

Seems to very common, my 2080 xc ultra also suffers from it. Talked with the support and they offered an RMA since they dont have any fans in stock, feels a bit silly to send my card away just to replace two fans. Decided to keep it for now and check back with the support at a later date

Pretty normal from what I've heard from others, mine does it too but I keep my fans running at low speeds all the time, it goes away instantly  after it moves.  But im putting a block on it so fans wont be on anymore anyway.

same thing for my RTX 2080 Ti XC.  I called CS and they said try examining the fan wires.  I guess I try that when I get home.  I will say the clicking is only going from stop and isn't audible after the initial start.  Kind of pissed for a $1200 card this is happening and if it's some un-tucked wires or even something worse

Either way I know EVGA will take care of me if something it's wrong, just such a hassle

Had the same issues. Thought it was a hdd going bad.. Noticed the fans doing half spins with the click and read on other forums this is common.  I ended up slapping on a G12 bracket and corsair H100 V2. Took a lil tinkering and got it working good. Temps don't go past 60c on any benchmark or heavy gaming. Sits at 33c idle.

yeah not willing to tinker with my card, just advance RMA.  Hopefully will get my new card and send back the other card this week.  Now my OCD has me always hearing the clicking and now I hear whining at high frequencies.  Hopefully next card is perfect

Getting coil whine also. But mine is a good overclocker and only hear it when I got the front panel off when doing benching .

My 2080 Ti XC Ultra also had fan problems. One of the fans was stuck at 100% because one of the fan wires wasn't making contact in the connector (the PWM wire is the one that controls fan speed - if it's not making contact the fan will be stuck on 100%).
I had to take the top of the card apart to get to the connector and fix the specific pin.

Frankly, I expect more from a $1200 card. Having to RMA it because of a $2 plastic fan connector is a waste of everyone's time.

Is this clicking noise normal with these fans or are them faulty?

Seems to be a pretty common issue, so it's most likely normal.

I am also having this issue on a 2070 Black. The fans do not spin until they reach a threshold. That threshold seems to be at around 55 degrees Celsius as the 2 fans alternate starting and stopping making a clicking noise. The fans do spin however when under load. (At least so far) I called tech support and I could not get a definitive answer whether this was intended behavior or a faulty card or mechanism. The recommended course of action was to download Precision software and manual set fans speeds. I did this and all seemed fine for a couple of days but just now after a reboot the clicking was back even with Precision installed and fans curves manually set.

It would be really nice if EVGA would give their customers a definitive statement whether this is intended behavior or something faulty with the card.

Motherboard is MSI z390 Tomahawk if any EVGA tech support need that info. With the latest bios also .110.

I noticed that the custom fan curves tend to get lost after a while. Even if they appear fine in the user interface in the Precision X1 app, the card reverts back to the default fan curves after some time. Frankly, I gave up after having to re-customize the fan curves a dozen times.
There's also another issue, that the card runs at full speed even when not in a game. For example my 2080 Ti runs at 1350Mhz even on the desktop. Apparently it's due to some G-Sync or 120Hz or DisplayPort or multi-monitor issue or something or other. You can read about on the nVidia forums.
Because the card runs at full speed even when idle, the temperature increases until it reaches whatever the equilibrium point is between the heat coming out and the cooling from the (clicking) fans. It seems to be around 55 degrees.
If the card would downclock properly to its low power state, it would run at 30-40 degrees at most, and the fan wouldn't be on at all.

Here a short Video of the clicking. it occurred while watching a movie and gpu was at 55-56C.

That sounds like the fans are hitting the fan cables. They are in very close proximity to the fan blades along the base of the card.
I get the clicking when the fans turn on/off too but is a subtle click, barely audible.

Try a driver reinstall with DDU if you haven't already.

Exact issue I have as well 4790k except on a 2070 Black.
Thanks for posting a video. Maybe EVGA will respond.

Thanks for the video, basically the same sound my RTX 2080 Ti XC makes when fans startup.  Did an ARMA and paid $40 for 2nd day shipping, got my card yesterday and guess what the replacement card still clicks, has horrendous coil whine, only did +44 in X1 while my 1st card did +90!.  And for some reason temps are a good 10 degrees hotter.  Called EVGA last night and just told them I would be keeping my first card and sending back the replacement.  I am a bit disappointed, a lot of wasted time and $40.  Oh well I guess I will constantly run my GPU fans.  If anything gets worse I guess I'll ask for another RMA, but hey could be worse we could all have NVIDIA FE cards lol

Yes i also put my fans to always on to get rid of the annoying on and off Bug.
What about the FE Cards do they have a similar issue?

NVIDIA FE are just DOA or artifact like crazy.  It was one of the top tech stories a day or so ago.  Funny that 9/10 cards on forums with serious issues were FE cards and then maybe randomly 1 MSI or other brand but practically zero EVGA.  My guess is that they didn't solder the memory right or used crappy colder and it overheats the memory

The way I see it, Nvidia has some work to do to work out the kinks of being a seller of complete gaming GPUs as silly as this might sound as, the AIB partners have more experienced than they do when it comes to this.
