Saw the art for he Caterpillar, That might be one i want to get in the near future.

Personally, I like the Aurora and the Constellation the best. The view out the front windscreen on both of those is cool with my Oculus Rift. Just wish it was space and not a hangar I was viewing it with.

I love my Freelancer !    Im just happy that Pirating is going to be prevalent.
Giving us a true (dedicated) ship for this, is even better.
This will just encourage different aspects of role playing, and make the game that much more diverse.

However, I have not read anything about being able to name your ships.?.?

Can someone explain the "melting" process to me?  Is it simply a credit refund to apply to a better package?

On the old site they had a setup where you could buy upgrades for particular ships. That went away when they changed to the new ecommerce setup on the current site design. Now people "melt" down their previous items into store credit and apply that money to new orders at checkout. It's just getting a refund on something previous for in-store credit.

I saw in today's WH show that they're going to probably put the Freelancer through another design revision for the windscreen. On naming ships, they said awhile back that they want the mechanic in but they don't know yet if it's plausible. Too early to know, but it's not been dismissed as an idea.

Yep, it's been crazy income for them lately. It's reflected in their forums as almost anarchy in a few areas. Forum mods barely keeping on top of stuff there. They should take some lessons from EVGA forums.

Hmmm, might trade in the Aurora for the Cutlass package.  Or maybe keep it and gift the Aurora later.

Edit: Option 2 it is, because there isn't a Cutlass backer package yet that includes Alpha/Beta and I'm not giving that up.

Because I'm an original backer I think I might have more options than some of the newer users. They don't give you the option for the digital pirate package for $110?

I have to say, I'm disappointed in the hangers, I love the base one but the higher levels ones just don't look interesting too me.

Maybe I'll go with the Freelancer instead so I can haul my buds around.  Anyone know what the max seating will be for the Cutlass?  The ship specs says 2 but it says that for the Freelancer too so I don't know.  Damn choices, I would get both if I could.

Brad,
As an original backer, can you still purchase the Digital Pirate LTI, if so, what about the Physical version of it ?

MCrow, The freelancer has seating for 4, so im hoping that 4 will be the max crew for it.

Technically it has seating for 5 if you count the gunner position in the cargo bay.

Updated: Decided to go with the Freelancer.  The Cutlass seemed more constrained in career paths compared to the Freelancer, and I'd like more versatility in choosing that path later on.  And again, it has room for several friends which is always good.

What will your pals do in the freelancer? The stats say that it just has 2 seats. Am I missing something?

I'm not sure why the ship specs say 2, but there are actually 5 seats. The cockpit is 2 crew members so maybe that's where that number comes from.

Skip to around 0:55 to see the 4 seats, plus there's a gunner seat in the cargo bay that you can see at the top of the screen at 0:47.

boarding party maybe :)

I think the crew is for places where a person can contribute to the fight. So in the Connie's case (4) There is the pilot, 2 gunners, and the Merlin. With the Lancer, you just have the pilot and 1 gunner.

I am not sure of the game mechanics, but it would be nice if the pilot could just pilot and the co-pilot can just target/lock. That way you can use some of the "seats" to actually do something

The Freelancer is a well thought out ship imho. In many ways I think it's just as interesting as the Constellation. At the moment it's the most interactive of the ships in the hangar. The hangar buggy even fits in the back hold.

I knew this ship would be something special.. maybe because of the game.. but there was an iteration of this ship before the final that it is now, that was far more sexier.
I hope that the updated geometry of this ship, matches that sexiness !!

I also went ahead and got the 315p so I could have a long range fighter escort if I ever needed.

well, I finally figured out how to not want anymore ships!!!.........Assuming they don't come out with a crazy version of what I currently have or a new ship before packages are discontinued!!!

I just bought one too many.

Although, I think I have almost every possible mission covered. And if I get NPC's to fly my ships, then I will have a gang to fly with around the verse

order of ships
315....then Connie...then Hornet...finally(hopefully) Cutlass

I was one of the first people to figure out how to import the SC assets into Cryengine SDK, so I have low motivation to buy ships just to explore them in hangar now. One of my current side projects is converting the ship models into CAD solids right now. That way we can 3d print them for fun and maybe even 1:1 CNC some simpit parts.

Anyone with a **** ton of ships (Constellation, Freelancer, 350R, Cutlass Model, 315p, Aurora LX, 325a, and Hornet F7C) manage to get good framerates in the Hangar? Even with SLI forced to option 2 running a I7 3770k, 2 680 Superclocked Signiture 2 in SLI, 16 gigs of Ripjaws 1866 ram and running off a SSD I get huge frame drops. Too much to render at once perhaps?

Turning off the motion blur and a few other FX really speeds up the fps. Most cryengine 3 game.cfg tweaks work on SC.
