errr. I think I found my answer. I finally happened upon the brochure and it looks like a tiny fighter is what goes in the hangar.

The P52 comes with the Constellation. No other fighter will fit.

have they said how playing this as a single player will work?
 
I would love to have my pals in the ship with me, but realistically, it would be just me. Is there some kind of autopilot/auto gunner for all of the different stations in the ship?

I did find that it has AI..just curious if I could fly the small fighter out and let the main ship be on AI or vice versa

Ok some more noob questions, after some reading LTI status is no longer available for newcomers, right? Only that insurance that comes in each package. Now reading some more, original and veteran backers can still get LTI packages and gift them.  Apparently packages that are bought by original backers and gifted to me, if i buy another ship(s) (before nov. 26th 2013) that will get LTI status too, vs veteran backers, where LTI status remains only on the included package ship, correct?
 
If so, is there an original buyer around that would help me with a package?

Yep that's right. What i was/am fuzzy about on info was the fact that the receiver of the LTI package (from OB) could also buy LTI ships/packages afterwords on his own.

Right.. just the gifts have LTI, new members are called New Backers now, and have limited insurance per package level.
$1200 package has 12 months insurance,  all lower tier packages have between 2-6 months insurance.

Pledge package gives you the game client and your base ship. Add-on ships can be then purchased after that. They need to have a pledge package in order to use the game. That is the part that actually purchases the game.

Yep. The hangar module will eventually be patched to dog fighting module, then to planetside module, then to squadron 42 module then to persistent universe module. The slow march toward release starts at Gamescom 2013.

On the plus side,  this gives me a lot of time to figure out which joystick to use.  I haven't bought one since around 1995 or so..
 
Or maybe I can just stick to my wired Xbox controller.  I'll lose some of the feel, but then I don't have to buy anything.
