I need some help, A few weeks ago my computer shut down suddenly while playing overwatch. My computer wouldn't boot, no post or anything completely bricked. Taking out the 980ti would let the computer boot on the integrated GPU. i was worried i had a bad PSU so i got a new Seasonic 750W Focus, EVGA sent me another 980ti of the same model and that lasted about five minutes before the same thing happened. These were tested on a seperate computer and they wouldn't let that computer boot. What's weird is my 670 works fine, i ran furmark on it for a couple hours and left it on overnight and no crashes.
EVGA are sending me another 980ti but i think the new one will brick the same way. The only thing i can think of is the motherboard is bad? is it that possible to only brick on model of gpu?
My specs below: Asus z370 prime-a motherboard 8700k EVGA 980ti SC 16GB Corsair Ram Asus PB279q
Any help is really apreciated
Thanks :)

First of all wait until you receive the 980ti and see how that works.

If I were you, I would get the rma back, and sell it before even unpacking it (leave it in the plastic wrap), and buy a new 1000 series card instead. IF you financially can.
Once you have a bad card and get back rma's that are just refurbed or not even refurbed just someone elses used card, its luck of the draw.
I have had 6 rma's, and still have issues with my old 900 series Titan. Issues for 2 years now, not going away.
Trust me, get a 1000 series card instead.

a new card doing the sam with in 5 min  I would think something else is up outside the card  ..     sad thing is how may ''test'' cards you need to weed that out ?

ypu could try a PSU ? it could be the mobo  pcie- slot or the boards power regulation for it ?   .    them wonder how many times evga will rma if they get wise to its not there card ?

''These were tested on a seperate computer and they wouldn't let that computer boot.''

before or after your board got a hold of them ?   maybe test the new rma card in another computer first and insure it fine   the place it in yours and hope for the best    . the you pretty well know its not the card  and its something in your system   . the power demands between a 670 and a 980ti    may be the factor in the 670 working and the 980ti not   if psu or mo bo power regulation  to the pci-e  . thinking that the pci-e slot is 75w  and each card 670 and 980 ti should draw that in full =

    Maximum Graphics Card Power (W]  170w for a 670   [75w pci-e slot +  1 8 pin PSU  150w or 2 6 pins 75w each  for 225w  to draw from ] .

weeding this stuff out can be a headache and expensive  if you cant hit the issue the first time

Doesn't sound like a motherboard issue since the 670 worked fine in it.

I would more wonder if the psu to the 670 was 1 -6 pin is fine but using the  1 / 2 -6 pin and the one 8-pin for the 980ti  may be bad on that psu ??   its a good PSU but with anything theres all ways that chance it can be the lemon

I see guys try the 8 pin cpu in a card before   just mashed it right in and could not understand why it failed ..lol....

az ref stock 980ti is a 250w card    and can be as high as  300+ with model like a classy or a fat OC 'ec card    and why tyheb607 may work and the 980it fails

don't know what card you got in a 670 ?

That seasonic PSU is a good psu, and 750w should be more than enough for either card, even sli'ed 980's.
I am wondering also about any connectors.

And I think Death is right. Put the card in the other machine first, and then see if it works for a day or 2, then put it back in your system.
If it goes out again in your system, something isnt right.
OR, you are getting bad cards back from rma.
OR you have dirty power in your home, or whole city. Do you have a good quality UPS ?

    Also, are you doing this:
Pull the power plugs from your Monitor AND your computer. Push the power buttons for 3-5 seconds to purge anything still in capacitors.
Unplug the cable to your card.
    Unseat your card.

Install the reverse way, plugging the power cables in last.

    Hey Everyone!

    Thanks for all the feedback

I don't think it's the PSU, the first card died on a 7 year old Seasonic 850w Platinum PSU so i replaced the PSU with the new Seasonic 750w Gold focus. The rma'd card died on the new PSU, i changed all the cables to the new ones that came with the new PSU.

I'll take your advice and put it in the other system and see if it holds. I'm pretty nervous about "testing" it now and maybe leaning towards buying a new card and keeping the 980ti in the other system.

Thanks again for all the help, i'm totally lost, never seen anything like this.

After you try it on the 2nd system to verify the 2nd rma works, try the second 16x slot on your Asus mb. Possibly the main slot is causing an issue with the more power-consuming 980 Ti?

    According to nvidia:

    250w vs 170w (980 ti vs 670)

Sub'd as I'm planing on a 980 Ti build in the next few weeks.

    Good luck mate!

another newer asus with like 50 bios updates , wow    how unstable are there boards to start with  or release boards before there fully ready and patch on the fly ?   why I say in posts  ''my ''LAST''3 asus were my LAST  asus's ..lol...    and why I never anymore buy just released  and go check these things now  [[any brand ]   but asus is done for  around here  .. dang sure not the same asus I grew up with

anyway   see if your bios is this one of later   that adds  ''VGA compatibility''   [0410]    then I just don't see that damaging a card to where it don't work at all in anything

one bad card is bad luck 2 bad cards is really bad luck   then like you say went out the same way ? that's even more suspect     .o me  with that I would have to suspect the PSU or the board  damaging the card . then lately the evga 900's aint running a great track record

one more thing   I would do  is  uninstall whatever the latest driver you using   and go back to a early one    [like before 10 series support  ]   like 355.82 for win-10    its the driver or older I still use for my 900's still today  .  with all the 900 cartds you just se here at evga forums makes me wonder if the latest drivers geared to 10 series  and there power profiles are not whats affecting these 900 series ??    I'm not going to install a later driver to find out  ...lol....

Well, amazon has agreed to replace the motherboard, so pretty much the entire computer has been replaced looking for this cause of this haha, i'm hoping this is the end of it.

lol.. we joke that one of my  ''LAST'  3 asus was a sabertooth    all It did was sink its saberteeth in to my billfold  ..lol.... and still did not work as expected in any way  / trash can. 3 strikes and they were out of here

last good one for me was a am2+ crosshair  . it rocked and ran well  but my 590sli giga was faster

    I will ask again:
Do you have a GOOD UPS?
Your power to your whole house and therefore computer could be BAD, and spiking, causing issues like this.
A PURE SINE UPS is the one to get, even though you might balk at the price, its much better on your hardware than an alternating sine ups.
If you do NOT have a UPS, you need to get one.
