***EVGA x58 ftw3 is compatible with  Nvidia rtx 20 series ***

hello,

im sure it has been mentioned somewhere on the internet but sadly.. i failed to get what i need to know
but anyway, i have this x58 ftw3 motherboard (i know, old) with i7 960 3.20 GHz and gtx 750 2gb, 12gb ddr3 1600 rams. id like to keep the CPU and board so what i need to know is:

-if its compatible with any of the 16 series (or newer) GPUs or not.
-if not, comparing 10 series gpu with 16, is it still worth getting it instead?
-would like to get additional memory, currently i have 3x4 corsair dominator (ddr3 1600) installed, cant find the same one in my local store so i have to get other brands and sum the ram to 24g (max for this board i believe) do u recommend this? what socket setup should i do?

i know allot of you gurus will suggest replacing the x58 board but please try help as much as you can and make it happen without doing so.

thank you in advance, looking forward for your kind replies asap if possible.

i copied some dxdiag info for bios vr and more system information:

Based on this result I'd say that the board is fully compatible with 16 series & 20 series gpu's. I wouldn't recommend mixing ram brands.

beautiful, you are a gem! thanks a bunch mate. just before registering here, i spent days looking for someone whos desperate enough and actually tried installing one one this board

now if its not trouble and since im not as smart, if i couldnt find any corsair 1600s, do i have to get another model/brand and replace the old rams with the same ones? how bad will it be if i lets say..installed another brand with a 3x4 12gb different brand (same speed 1600)? will the machine just not fully utilize dual channeling or worst things can happen? conflicts and such..

Replacing the old ram with a new ram kit (3x8GB) would be the best solution. Mixing brands can cause all sorts of issues, such as instability, and not being able to run in the proper mode such as dual channel or triple channel, and xmp may not work at all.

If you need the extra capacity and don't mind losing a bit of speed you could go with these...

or if you want new ram...

Re: [need help] 16 series compatibility 2019/12/28 09:43:02 (permalink)
took me a while to post but i can confirm that this board, the "x58 ftw3" perfectly can load an rtx 2070! so yes, i bough a msi rtx 2070 gaming x in the end.

but what gave me a horrible time is the ram. so i took a look on the manual and it looks like that the x58 ftw3 is only compatible with 1, 3 or 4gb ddr3 DIMMs, and since i have 6 slots, and the corsair dominator 3x4 12gb set is installed on slots 1, 3 and 5 (gray) i thought **** it.. ill just add another 3x4 on the other DIMM slots (kingstone 1600mhz, not set). but that didnt work..the board just cant detect the other 12! and trust me i tried every single config or setup..(bios settings are fine, checked). so i actually went back to the store and asked to if they could let me test with another 3x4 4gb ddr3s along with the kingstones and baamm, it worked! but nothing will while my old ones are installed..as if the corsair will disable the other 3 slots while installed lol. then i remembered what @Sajin said about mixing brands and i thought maybe thats it. i didnt want to throw my corsairs away but anyway, the guys are wonderful and refunded me back for the rams in the end.

but im actually confused now, do i really have to stick with the 12gb i have with corsair now? maybe try something other than kingstone along withem? or should i try and find an identical corsair dominator set and try my luck? its a little too hard to find 4gb ddr3s in 2019 anyway

btw i performed a benchmark before and after the rtx 2070, maybe itll be helpful to anybody comes across this post. ill also edit the first post with result as well:

before (x58 ftw3 + gtx750):

after (x58 ftw3 + rtx 2070):

Sounds like you may need to stick with 12GB.

yah i see. though, i could just get 6x4 kingstone ddr3 but i didnt like how fragile they looked nor the idea of occupying all 6 slots at the same time. maybe later on another project.
thanks again and peace.
