Not exactly sure how they could go about doing a sequel for this particular movie. It seems rather concluded. I suppose it could go on to how he lives his life and create struggles with the other clans, but that doesn't seem like feasable conclusion. Of course i suppose it could go the other way and humans come back in force and wipe them out with orbital bombardments. That wouldn't make for a good movie though...

One of the WORST movies I have ever seen.  Horrible script, I mean horrible.   I only went for the special effects, but the dialog was so nauseating I could not enjoy the special effects.

I thought the movie was amazing... visual it brought 3D to a WHOLE new level... before they just shot stuff out at you... but now they actually added depth to the movie and made it look amazing... for sure one of the best movies of 2009! As far as storyline goes, i kinda saw how the plot was gonna go from the beginning however i still think it's a must see for everyone

James Cameron is one of the few out there who won't sell out for a sequel if it doesn't need one.  Terminator 2 was one of the few sequels he did and it was very fitting.  I really really hope there isn't a sequel because it simply doesn't need one... I'm looking at you George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg

Even with over 9000 reviews on netflix this move has 4.4 stars. Haters and wanna be critics love to spam crappy ratings over there so with a  4.4 star netflix rating it must be epic.

It's called having a different opinion. It's not about hating or wannabe critics. Not everyone likes the same thing. There are people who won't like it, and they are entitled to voice out their opinion just as you are.

It seems interesting that there is always someone who has to bash a movie/game/gpu etc. just because everyone else likes it, regardless of the fact that it may be very good/entertaining.  That has nothing to do with having an opinon, but everything to do with being a jerk.  Based on the way he phrased his dissent of the movie, the later would be more likely.  By the way, have you seen the movie?  If not, I fail to see what your multiple posts to this thread are meant to accomplish.

alot of people thought that the dialog was bad but you have to understand that he as a marine filled in for his brother. So, he had to go in knowing nothing , like we did watching the movie. Does that make sense. I dont think i worded it right.

Re:Whos seen AVATAR ? 2009/12/25 10:01:50 (permalink)
I saw it in regular sized 3D, now I want to see it in Imax 3D.. Although there Imax theater here isn't a REAL Imax screen, it's a FAKEmax (a triple sized movie screen, rather than the 3 story high, curved, peripheral vision filling screen of a REAL Imax theater) The nearest true Imax screen to here is 3 hours away :(

As for the movie itself; I loved it. I was very skeptical going in, 3D has just been a gimmick up until now, lots of "thrust stuff in your face" and "jump out at you" moments, but little real depth; now, it is a real, viable medium. James Cameron raised the 3D bar with this movie.

It took Cameron 12 years to make this movie, after all (his last movie was Titanic.) The story is formulaic to the extreme, but one could argue that 99% of movies nowadays are derivative of another movie. The story of this film is Fern Gully + Dances With Wolves + The Last Samurai. I love all of those movies, so I loved this one. I did laugh a little at the name they picked for the McGuffin.. "Unobtainium" haha. I also was somewhat surprised at how "human" the Na'vi seemed. Their reactions were mostly human, etc etc. One would expect aliens to be more "alien"... but I put that down to the limited scope of human imagination.

That's about all I have to say, I loved the movie. I could find absolutely no flaws in the 3D, or the CGI in general. The scope of this film is enormous. The story is derivative, but nowadays most are.

I give it a high B+

P.S.- My favorite scenes are the I'Kann flying scenes. EPIC

Just saw it.

The only thing that kept me going was Stephen Langs awesomeness, loved him in Gettysburg.

It left me with the same kind of "expensive rollercoaster experience" PJ's King kong did, but this was a much better ride. Kong would have definitely benefitted from 3D.

I thought i'd hate the Halo-esque visual styling, but it worked for me.

I've gotta say i liked Jurassic Park better. Avatar is more of a sign of things to come than a definitive milestone. As for the 3D - the trailer for Tim Burtons take on Alice in Wonderland was a lot more exciting, although i guess trailers are easier to do good. In the end, it was well worth seeing and 3D is pretty much a must so go watch it.

I give it a STRONG 9/10 in the Science Fiction cathegory (relative to other works) and a 7/10 as a general movie.

Oh, well please allow me to retort.

The basic story line of the movies goes like this.  An evil corporation abuses and manipulates scientist for its own gain.  Then destroys nature and a cultural icon for profit.  This becomes very clear in the first 10 mins. of the movie.  The rest of the script is just a plea to how awful and horrible free enterprise is, and how compassionate and loving the forest people and scientist are.  The whole concept was naive and insulting to the thinking person.

I felt like I was being programmed, like at one of the approved governmental programming facility's I attended as a child and young man.

That's why I could not enjoy the special effects.
