Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had disk issues with this motherboard and a 13900KF CPU? I had no issues with my 12900k, but after I put in the 13900KF, Windows failed to boot (inaccessible boot device) and then I realized that Macrium Reflect could not see any of my disks either (on m.2 or SATA).

The BIOS is able to recognize my disks (the Intel Rapid Storage Technology section.) but Windows can't see it! Can't install Windows 10 with the Intel VMD drivers loaded (that previously worked with my 12900k)

I had this issue before when I first got this board, and it was resolved by loading disk drivers from Intel RST setup, today I loaded even more drivers into Macrium Reflect (USB Bootable) but none of the disks are showing up. I've looked around and saw a similar issue being reported due to outdated Intel ME drivers but that issue was for ASUS boards (also affecting XMP) ... I tried

Things I've tried:
  • Disabling XMP and it made no difference
  • Using BIOS v2.08 and it made no difference, same exact (profile) settings as when my 12900k was working.
  • Disabling Secure Boot and Secure Boot Device Support, it made no difference.
  • Disabling VMD and it ruined my boot drive... it's fine, I can recover with Macrium...
  • Going into Legacy boot mode, nothing has worked so far.
  • Loaded the latest VMD drivers and Windows won't work with it, can't install a fresh copy of Windows either...
  • Made a Windows 10 Portable Live boot and installed Intel ME_SW_2413.5.67.0.zip, still can't see any of my disk except for USB drives
  • Dropping the Microcode in BIOS from Raptor Lake 0x112 to x105

I finally put my old 12900K back in and all my disk are back... **** :(

Based on all that I've tried, I have ruled out that the problem is either the board working with my 13900KF, or my 13900KF is defective.

Pretty strange issue. Are you using a contact frame? I upgraded from 12700k to 13900k and had no such issues.

Thanks for replying. I am not using a contact frame, I'm using a Noctua NH-D15, I was worried that I tightened the mounting brackets too tight, but I've taken apart my computer several times and put in the 13900KF twice, the 13900KF just won't allow Macrium or anything outside of BIOS to recognize my disks.

When I put in the 12900K it works every time. It made me wonder if the CPUs had some difference in the way they managed disks, but that might just be me going crazy.

EVGA thinks some pins may be bent on the motherboard, I was afraid that was the case when it did not work, but my 12900K works just perfectly and stable... If the pins were bent, I don't think it 12900K would be working...

I did order a new 13900KF from a different store. I will try to put it in this weekend and keep this thread updated, for science.

That is just a very strange issue. I assume one of your m.2 drives is connected to the top PCIe X4 m.2? the one that's wired directly to the processor?
according to the Z690 block diagram having SATA, 2nd, and 3rd M.2 ports could indicate a chipset issue (albeit probably extremely rare for both and USB to still work), but since you're getting none of the disks to work it's gotta be something else. I think replacing the CPU is probably your best bet, hopefully you'll be able to return your first one if the replacement resolves the issue.

I'm using 3 m.2 drives, slotted from the top down, as well as two SSDs on SATA.
I put in the new 13900KF and I'm having the issue (I can boot up via USB with Macrium but Macrium can't see any disks and Windows can't boot),  so I guess the issue is not with the original CPU...

The issue must be with the motherboard just not liking the 13900KF for some reason... I've already tried the 2.08 BIOS and I'm on 2.13, I've tried my own settings and the default optimized settings again. Sigh. Back to my 12900K. Maybe I need a 13900K and not KF.

    Thanks again for your insight.

So very strange. I don't know if you tried but have you switched to one of the backup BIOS's?

I've only tried Bios Switch B, but I did re-flash BIOS switch B.
Maybe I should have tried A and C... but BIOS Switch A was left on 2.08 as my known good that I didn't wanna re-flash in case of emergency

My motherboard has broken my heart and frustrated me too much, I'm currently tired of trying. Maybe I will give it a try in a couple weeks before I return the last 13900KF...

kinda sounds like a defective cpu. I was able to drop in a 13900k and 14900k with no problems. 14900k uses way too much voltage tho imo.
