My biggest concern is my CPU Draws a good amount of power, add a 3080ti to that and cooling system, etc!

Currently have an EVGA G3 850W.  If buying new now though I'd step up to the 1000W Super Flower Leadex V Gold.  The G3 is a rebranded Super Flower PSU, unfortunately EVGA moved away from them for more recent PSUs like the G5.  With the ever increasing power demands - 4000 series rumored to actually require even more power - getting a weak PSU seems like a total waste.

But 12VO may or may not happen relatively soon. I don't want to be stuck with a bunch of high end ATX PSUs when all the new hardware is using ATX12VO.

For my 3080 TI, I am using Seasonic PRIME TX-1000, which is a 1000w 80+ Titanium power supply.

I'm using a 650W PSU, but that's because the PSU is dedicated entirely to the GPU.

Also would depend alot on other cards you may be running or thinking of running in the future - peripherals via usb count too. Go bigger honestly.

Been running an AX1200I for about 5 years maybe 6 now, custom water loop and up until now with the 3x series cards always ran SLI. Have had no issues with my 3080TI although my overclock on CPU and memory became unstable after upgrading, haven't taken the time to re calibrate the overclock yet because I'm still running an older CPU that is going to get upgraded this fall which I am sure is the cause of the issue now anyway.

I'm using an evga 850w SuperNova G+ with my 3090 and 5950x, both are running with an aggressive undervolt, total system draw is under 450w from the wall, without given up any performance.

I'm using the T2 1000w. Super happy with it.

You should go with something that has headroom and will last a long time.

I am using an EVGA T2 1000 watt psi.

Works amazing.

Small tip, with my 3080ti ftw3 I was finding that my ups was not up to the task with my monitors and other accessories also attached.
I ended up needing a ups dedicated to the PC by itself to avoid warnings about power draw when I would start gaming.

Might not happen to everyone obviously but think about a UPS that can keep a 3080ti PC up for longer than 1 minute. Moot point if you don’t use a UPS.

I went overboard and bought the Antec HCP-1200 in 2012 for my GTX 690 build, it has carried over to two new builds since then (690 -> 1080 ti -> 3080 ti). I expect it to last me many more years since it's never pushed to its limit.

Corsair HX1000 Platinum in single rail mode (not multi rail), probably doesn't matter but thought I would mention it.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I should mention I have seen 860+ watts from the wall when benchmarking so I'm glad I have this.

850W to cover overclocking from the CPU and GPU, plus if you have any fancy extras running. You can probably get away with 750w though tbh

Got the EVGA SuperNOVA 850 P2 on sale about three years ago for like $100 bucks. I really like it and have no issues running a 3080ti and R9 5900X. I also used the same PSU to run a 3090 and an i9 9900KF overclocked to the thermal limit of my cooler. I'm really pleased with it.

Re: What PSU is everyone using for 3080Ti? 2021/08/17 09:43:43 (permalink)
I run fine on a Corsair SF750, my system (5600X and 3080ti XC3) is not even close to 750W. You can watch plenty of tech reviewers who ran 3080s just fine on a 650W even. It comes down to more than just the 3080ti.
1) What CPU are you running? If you have a highly power inefficient and overclocked Intel chip, it can demand over 200W. If you are running an AMD 5600X stock, less than 100W.
2) What GPU specifically. The 3080ti XC3 for example maxes out around 350-360W. While the FTW3 can potentially hit 450W+.
3) How good or crappy the PSU is.
4) How much other stuff are you plugging in ? Memory and NVME are really minimal usage overall. But are you running a huge array of hard drives? Other PCI cards?

So if you are planning to overclock a high end CPU and overclock a high end GPU, 650W would not be enough and even 750W, esp. if you have a lower quality power supply would be pushing your luck.
But then if you plan to run a lower end 3080ti stock along with a lower power CPU stock, even 650W (good quality) could potentially work. I'd get a 750W at least myself, though. Probably 850W if I was really pushing the overclock on power hungry CPU/GPU combo.

Search around youtube for some information on how much PSU you actually need. Articles like this give lots of info and debunk overspending for grossly oversized PSUs:
Wasting Money on Power Supplies: How Many Watts You Need for a PC PSU (2020) www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_wtoCBahhM

A good ATX PSU is just an adapter away from being able to supply ATX12VO, right?

My own read on the original question (based on the much larger thread that's buried somewhere in this forum) has been that PSU quality is at least as important wattage for these cards. Paired with my 8086k running at stock, my old EVGA 650GQ nominally had enough juice left to supply my 3080 FTW3... but it couldn't hack it and I got shutdowns while gaming at stock GPU clocks. Seems like the conclusion was that these cards are spiky in their power draw, and you can make up for that with quality or quantity (or both, if you have a reasonable expectation of power-hungry upgrades in the future).

8086K / 3080 Hydro / 2x8GB T-Force Nighthawk 3600MHz / Samsung 870 Pro 500GB / Z370FTW / Super Flower Platinum SE 1000W / DG77 wall-mounted
