Yep....I was hoping it would have taken by now tho. When you tried 1800 you set it at 1.325v and you said it was too hot there so, watch that temp.

ok i stopped it at max @ 1.325 because the processor is hovering around 79-80c max.......... What do you think about removing the heatsink and regreasing the processor? I havent done it since i built the computer.

That might be a very good idea....you do have good airflow through your case, right?? What temp is it idling at?

Another thing before you take it apart.....and I apologize for not asking this earlier.....you DO have your CPU Fan set in the BIOS to manually run at 100%......right?? If not, then you need to do that......regardles of new TIM or old.

Re:Upgrading ram 2010/09/18 22:18:41 (permalink)
core 1 idles at 42-45

core 2 idles at 49-50

I have 4 case fans, 2 in front sucking in, 2 in back blowing it out the back. Huge zalman 9700 cooler. I mean i thought it was good airflow, but somethings not right here. Seeing the diff in core temps, maybe the paste job sucks?

What type of thermal paste do you use?

See edit above. Those temps are not that bad. I use Arctic Alumina Ceramic Polysynthetic Compound. Been using this stuff for years:

I believe i have a very poor thermal compound appliance and need to reapply, but i dont have any isopropyl alcohol cleaner right now. Gonna wait until i get some to clean, and i have some zalman thermal compound that came with my fan. Back to 1600mhz for now. Will save this template though.

ok ordered the arctic silver 5, and the cleaning stuff you advised. Should be here tuesday id say.

after reading the instructions for applying thermal paste, ive royaly ****ed up my thermal paste apply from the beginning. haha. Will do it correctly this time. I have a feeling it will drop my temps significantly.

Yep....this is a good time to go thru your case and thoroughly clean everything up. I like to do the cleaning of everything else first, before removing the HSF...that helps to keep dust and debris away from the CPU socket area. You don't want any of that crap getting into your new TIM. Good Luck.

all done, and immediately noticeably cooler, even before break in period. There was so much dust blocking airflow through the zalman cpu cooler, computer is much quieter now too.  Now what do you suggest we do ?

wow what an improvement, after cleaning and regreasing ,the hottest im seeing the cores is this:

core1: 60C

Core2: 64C Havent seen it higher that that.

MCP Now isnt going up to 70+ anymore either, its now 64c at the highest, SPP is right  around 56c. NICE :D

Very good...yeah, you gotta make time to check and clean as needed. I suggest you reapply the 1700MHz settings now and see what your temps look like. EDIT: I hope you cleaned out your 9800 GFX card too....if your CPU cooler was that bad, that card has to be pretty bad too.

Re:Upgrading ram 2010/09/22 16:00:43 (permalink)
and its a success! Took lots of time but im stable now @ 1700mhz

Voltage on CPU core is: 1.325

Hottest temps are:

c1: 66C
c2: 66C
SPP: 59C
MCP: 67C

Passed 5 passes standard IBT, then 20 MAX. :D

edit: Question, would raising SPP a notch allow me to bring down the CPU core? seems we are kinda high right now to go for 1800.

Not likely, Man. Your SPP is at 1.45v, right? What are your idle temps looking like now? I'm hoping we can get you to 1800MHz because if your board reacts like mine, you won't be able to run 8GB's at 1700MHz. Just remember, IBT at Max hammers your CPU hard for a fairly short amount of time....nothing you do on your system such as browsing and gaming will hammer it that hard so, temps won't be jumping up so bad.
