On my system, I cannot get 8GB's to run at 1600MHz. Nothing between 1333MHz and 1799MHz........1800MHz was a piece of cake tho.

Hmmmmm....Bummer.......You could try again with the other pair if, you haven't already. I hope that you have kept the pairs together and not mixed them up. I will assume that you saved your stable 1600MHz settings and returned to them, correct?

Maybe we should try for 1700MHz before pushing it to 1800MHz. What do you think?

Well, when you tried 1800 and it failed...did you up the voltages that you had previously lowered and try again? Did you follow the proceedures that I posted to do when making changes to your settings? Post #76...I wrote all that out in hopes that you would actually use them.

Re:Upgrading ram 2010/09/17 21:52:26 (permalink)
was able to get it to post at 1800mhz settings, but would Blue screen while loading windows everytime. I just upped the SPP another notch to 1.50 to get it to post and start loading windows. What caused it to BSOD though at 1800mhz? What needed tweaking? I was running 8-8-8-22 with 1.50 on SPP. Only things that were a little diff from your 1800mhz template.

Well....it could have been either one of the CPU Core, CPU FSB, SPP or MCP voltages too low, too high or a combination of them. All you can do is use mine as a base starting point and if it doesn't work right off the bat then, you will have to experiement by taking each one up or down a knotch...one at a time until you find the ones that your system will accept. It can be a long process...as each board is unique.

ok in windows at 1800mhz, seemed i needed to up the CPU core. Right now cpu core is 1.35. but im sure i can drop that a bit after some testing. IBT now for 20?

Re:Upgrading ram 2010/09/17 22:59:26 (permalink)
Have you tested your memory for errors with those timings yet. If not, you need to do that first....if it's not right, you will get BSOD's or lockups in Windows. You need to know your memory settings are good before testing CPU. Copy down that guide I wrote out in post # 76 and follow it. Once you pass your RAM then, run IBT to test your CPU. Once you pass both of them...then test your game.

EDIT: and watch your temps closely when testing CPU...Core, SPP and MCP.

ok jeffrey, seems to be running too hot at 1800mhz anyway. Ill have to do further testing later. Out of time for tonight. CPU core temps were well over 70C when i tried IBT in windows, plus IBT would only run for 20 seconds and say success. Something weird with this OC. Ill try it again later with more results. Currently back at my 1600mhz settings completely stable.

OK, Daniel....give the 1700MHz settings a try.

Just a thought for you to keep in mind...you should try to make time to get this worked out ASAP...that way, if you find that you are not going to be able to run all 8GB's stable...you'll be able to return 1 pair for a refund if you wish...or keep them as a backup.

ok jeffrey, in windows just fine @ 1700mhz, and just passed memtest just fine. Gonna IBT it now @ 5 passes standard, then 20 max. :)

edit: IBT cannot pass 5 passes on standard, gets an error. What do you suggest needs to be adjusted?

Try CPU Core up to next higher setting....that's it.

EDIT: since you know your RAM is right....you can just go to Windows and run IBT again.

yes i didnt do memtest again. Haha. Almost finished IBT at 5 passes, but crashes on test 5. Ill try one more time to verify. If it fails again, one more small notch up on cpu?

edit: it only passed 2 tests before the slight up in voltage.
