I've always had a problem with this card. Whenever I would play a game or anything that requires the video card to use more than just idle power, the fans would turn up but wouldn't slow down until reboot or powerdown. So, to try to fix this issue, someone suggested to update the bios. I checked the bios against the model# and the serial#. I'm sure I used the right one? Now the card appears to work fine, on the surface. It has no problem with booting up or even playing youtube videos, but when I boot overwatch it trickles down to 9 fps. It will start up at max fps for a couple seconds then the fps drops quickly down to 9 fps. Its acting like its thermal throttling but before it has a chance to warm up. I've tried going back to the original bios but it acts the same now too. I've had this gtx 1080 for over a year.

Have you tried t total power flush ? Unplug All PC power sources after shutting Windows, after MB LEDs turn Off, hold start button 30 sec or longer, then plug in & reboot EVGA cards have a sticker on the back of the PCB with the factory BIOS version Noted, you may have to remove the cards back cover to see it Contact EVGA support with the BIOS version As marked on Your GPU, they can send you the file - just in case the one you used was corrupted

Sounds like it's time to test the card in another pc to see if it acts the same way or not.

I just tried a total power flush. No change. I'll check the bios sticker next, but I have flashed to bios back to original and it didn't fix it. I understand I could've flashed a corrupted bios, but do you think the same issue would stick around after a flashback to the original?

Did you check the temperature? It sounds like your GPU is thermal throttling (as you said).

The base temp hovers around 35c-40c. If I open a game the temp gets upto 45c and drops fps to 6-9fps for the whole pc not just the game.

How about your CPU temps? If you open up task manager while this is occurring, what CPU and GPU usage are you seeing. What are the GPU clocks doing? We need more actual detail on what the hardware is doing.

As Sajin pointed out, your memory isn't going above 2D clock states. As a last resort and a possibility there's a memory incompatibility with the firmware you flashed ( I know you said you flashed your original) I would suggest having EVGA send you a BIOS to reflash your GPU. If that doesn't work, RMA it.

I sent an email to support asking for the original bios. Guess I'm waiting on a response from them now. I'll update if it works but I'm assuming I'm gonna have to RMA it. Thanks for the help everyone.

bcavnaugh If you have a GTX 1080 ACX 3.0 (08G-P4-6181-KR) and PX1 shows a Reference Card then you have the wrong Bios for your Graphics Card. Click on the {i} at the Bottom Right side of the Version Number and post an image
This data base sucks https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/?architecture=NVIDIA&manufacturer=EVGA&model=GTX+1080&version=&interface=&memType=&memSize=&since Updated Bios Version: 86.04.3b.00.82 EVGA GTX 1080 SC ACX 3.0 & EVGA GTX 1080 Classified (86.04.17.01.80) Original Bios Version: 86.04.3b.00.80 EVGA GTX 1080 ACX 3.0 08G-P4-6181-KR https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/evga-gtx-1080-acx-3-0.b3608
Psst
So PX1 is wrong then. But the OP said he went back to 86.04.3b.00.80 (Post#6) from 86.04.3b.00.82 that is shown in GPU-Z
Well maybe. But so many posts lead off on tangents. PX1 is irrelevant. He's apparently flashed the wrong BIOS. Lets see if, after he flashes the correct BIOS he has a resolution. If not, time to RMA the GPU regardless of what PX1 says. Why use that when GPU-Z is easier and doesn't cause near as many issues and gives you more information? I'm a fan of simplicity.

The vBios sticker has "86.04.60.00.82" on it. I found that version bios but for the wrong device.
