Hey guys.

Currently running a new Titan X SC SLi setup and am concerned about idle temps. Really, I guess my question is how accurate different hardware monitoring software is when looking at temps. I'm driving two displays in the setup, a 4K and 1080p monitor off the main card. Speccy has the temps of said card idling between 59c - 61c, but Precision X has the card idling at 45c - 48c. Which one of these is likely to be more accurate? Speccy has always worked fairly accurately for me in the past, but I'm more inclined to trust Precision X in this case, given that its main job is to monitor GPUs. I'm just concerned when there is a ten degree difference between the two.

Thanks for the help!

Tbh, they both seem kind of high on idle, do you have air restriction in your case?
Anyhow, try HWinfo64, its pretty accurate see what temps is reporting.

It's portable so you don't need to install it, unzip it to your desktop and run it.

Thanks for the link! Wasn't aware of that software, and it's really cool. It's listing the idle at 42c, which I'm comfortable with. Something weird with Speccy I guess.

    Hey

If you are using 144hz monitors, try using 120hz instead. Using a 144hz refresh rate bumps the idle clocks quite a bit where 120hz leaves them untouched. I'm using the latter.

Were you running precision x and speccy at the same time? If so, one may have been conflicting with the other causing a false reading.

Thanks for pointing this out, my idle temps on dual monitor, one being 144hz were 64c!  Now the clock drops to 135mhz from 800mhz.

They need to tweak this better.

    Alright Gang,

Help me out here. I have a reference Titan X, not SC. This thing idles at 65c all the time. Here is what I am running:

    Intel i7-5930K
    EVGA X99 Micro
    32Gb DDR4 @2667Mhz
Intel 730 Series SSD x2 in RAID 0
    WD 4TB Black HDD
EVGA Titan X - Reference (no overclocking)
Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme (for CPU, no overclocking)
    Fractal Design Arc Mini
    Thermaltake Riing Fans x6
    ASUS ROG Swift 27" 144hz Monitor x1 (resolution, 2160 x 1440p @ 144hz)
    ASUS VG248Q 24" 144hz Monitor x2 (resolution 1920 x 1080p @ 60hz)

I have turned down the refresh rate for the 2 24" monitors as suggested in the thread, as well as for the 27" but to avail.
I have even disconnected the 2 24" monitors and just used the 1 27" monitor but it still idles at 65c.
I have updated the drivers to 353.38 that was released today.

Currently, on the status of the video card as of 12:47pm PST:

    Temp: 65c
    Fan: Auto at 26%
    Power 31.54%
    Voltage: 0.993v
    Current Clock: 810 Mhz
    GPU Clock: 1002 Mhz
    Default Clock: 1002 Mhz
    Memory: 3506 Mhz

What can/should I do to get this thing cooler, without having to put an ACX cooler or water cooling on this thing?

i would graph a better fan profile and see what the ambient temps are coming off the board. Are other temps high?
my air cooled titan reference before i put the hybrid on it idled at 38-44c it would hit 60-70c on full load.

thats kinda high. Ambient should be mid 30's. Looks like your case air flow is flunky.

Here are the top causes of why a GPU would run at full clocks at idle...

#1 You're running multiple monitors. Fix: Enable mutil display power saver using nvidia inspector.
#2 Your machine has a virus. Fix: Scan computer using malwarebytes.
#3 One or more programs running in the background are using your GPU. Fix: Perform a clean boot of windows.
#4 Power management mode inside the nvidia control panel is set to prefer maximum performance. Fix: Set power management mode to adaptive then reboot your computer.
    #5 Running a resolution of 2560x1440 @ 144Hz. Fix: Change refresh rate to 120Hz.
#6 K-Boost is enabled inside Precision X. Fix: Disable K-Boost.
#7 Shadowplay is enabled inside geforce experience. Fix: Disable shadowplay inside geforce experience OR completely uninstall geforce experience from your machine (highly recommended)

    Thank you Sajin!!!

I have narrowed it down to the GeForce Experience that was causing issue(s). I have removed the GFE and modified the fan profile. It now idles at 45c and while gaming BF4 (ultra, 144fps) it hits about 65c. Before BF4 was at 83c and stuttering.

    Thank you for your help!!

Holy sh#t. This immediately fixed my idle temp. Down from 65C to 40C instantly, even with k-boost on. Thank you so much!
