You are using folding for a stability test on the OC? I think i would have tossed a copy windows on for the stability testing on the OC but what do I know when it comes to OCing a 4p. ;P

I'm now wondering if my next move to 266 will need other changes to continue to be stable. The timing "if true" does seem a bit tight for the clock speed since this is only 1333 ram. Everything to do with ram in bios it set to auto so far, so now comes the part where I'm unsure if this should be changed in bios or with the software. Anyways looking good so far, my next move to 266/267 isn't far off.

This type of OC is done within the OS not threw bios. So W7 wouldn't work since it written for Linux OS, plus W7 would never see all 4 CPU's. Yes folding for test, but with internet disconnected so if a fail no upload no new work, plus -oneunit flag used in case of a fail. I have a backup unit I'm testing with.

Its a bios hack right? IE its still changing it at the bios level, your just doing it within the OS. Not that much different then the in OS overclocks many motherboard manufacturers are doing I am assuming. Or can you not do the OC at the bios level? I'll see when i jump to that level I guess ;P Ohh and I have almost every flavor of Windows Server so OS is not an issue for me. 64 bit windows server 2012 looks like windows 8... its pretty disturbing actually lol...

What is the refclock of that ^^^ sampling? Please, do not get discouraged when you see the ddr speed drop, here is why... refclock*ddr/200 So, if refclock=266 ddr=800 266*800=212800/200=1064. 1064 is your effective ddr rate. When you run ocng-cu, go to advanced options, and yes to "allow ddr1600" not sure on wording. It may or may not like this...but then you can get to 1417 ddr which may piss it off. Also, let's get you away from accessing via console like that, if you used the H script, ssh is installed. It is a performance hit to use the gui... So, get your ip, either from your router, or, at the terminal, ifconfig, and then use putty from your windows box. Then, lets see ht-retries. Sudo ht-retries -i 3 This is going to make it refresh every 3 seconds, observe for any counts that stay every refresh. Do test with a BA wu, these are going to beat up the box more...do not call it stable until it folds 24/7 for a week, and still, continue to watch. Overclocked boxes can be needy children. If you are around later, hit me up on irc, H channel of course. If you have Q or need more explanation, I'l help ya.

That sampling is at 256. So your saying the ddr 800 is not a double data rate 1600 but ddr 400/800 at this point? I defiantly new to AMD bios read out or how that works with these boards, but no newbie to overclocking. Your lingo of this isn't much help to me as it doesn't correspond with me or my thinking or knowledge of overclocking. Thanks for trying to help but I'll figure it out. I have a tendency to ask dumb question when I already know the answer.

When it says 800, it is 800*. When it says 1333, it is 1333*. correct not DDR 800=1600 or 1333=2666. *Provided you've done the math of ref clock*ddr(from tpc -dram)/200. What more clarification is needed?

If you do sudo ocng-cu and input your data, and then shutdown when done...you can then boot windows. linux is ONLY required to run ocng-cu. If you understand how the bios was buiild, when you do ocng-cu, you ARE writing your changes to the bios, hence the shut down(power off) and power back on. Don't take this the wrong way but come over to the H so we can give you a hand with this please....More than willing to help.

I can't say what the consequences may be, but you could hack the ocng-cu.c source to allow a higher refclock input. Just change "262" to whatever higher number you want in lines 310, 311 and 359. Going beyond 265 might produce funky results and it's possible that anything beyond 262 might require clearing the CMOS to get going again. I'd backup the ocng-cu.c file before messing with it, but once it is modified you just have to "make ; make install" (without the quote marks) and you're good to explore the unknown.Caveat Emptor. I doubt I'll get anywhere close to 262 on air with the 6172's. I just bumped it to 240, 2520 mhz with the DDR at 1279. temps are still pretty nice so maybe I have more room to go...

Thanks for the tip I might just look into that mod for higher refclock. My temps haven't changed much under load from what they were to start with. At stock max temp was 38c, I'm only seeing 40/41c max as with my setup now, once set to the tech station those may lower. I must have a really good board and chips, I have yet to change anything other than the refclock, unlike some suggesting to Max out the voltage right out of the gate apparently has no clue about hardware. Anyone that has done any OCing knows no two systems are a like and have different needs in the OC field. Everyone has there own way of OCing, me I like to take the memory out of the equation, lower there clocks and find what the CPU can handle 1st then work on Ram clocks & timing. I know the 6172 its a different animal from the 6124 I have but with some luck maybe they will make it into the 250 range. Wish you the best of luck with that. Finished the 8105 so I bumped the refclock to 250 for 2626 mhz. It had picked up another 8105, but as soon as it resumed the WU after booting it segfaulted. That's the first core dump I have seen on this box. It picked up an 8101 and that one dumped core too. Time to back off a little. I'll try 245.

TheWolf Good luck with 245. Did you try lowering the memory clock or raising timing at 250? That most likley will not do any good, OCNG will not let the memory run above XMP profile speeds so the memory should not be affecting the OC. The only way to get the memory to run any faster is to flash the memory profile to what you want it to run at.

I didn't manually relax them, the board did. More research is needed. It has been folding fine at 243/2551 for almost 8 hours, but I'm getting HT retries so everything is not playing nice yet.

Little update were I am at this point. Got the Tech Station out and set up the board. Had to re-drill one standoff hole in the TechS to line up with the board. Other than that everything went perfect and wasn't much trouble at all to correct. The Tech Station came very very well packed and with lots of accessories. I decided to not place the PSU on the tech station because of wire management. Ready to fire it up and decide it'd be a nice time to try with a GPU installed at this point. Grabbed up a old HD 5850 I had laying around, slapped thats sucker in. Get wires and everything looking kind of nice. Popped the switch and only fans spin and no video, then I realized I hadn't disabled the on-board video. I may remove the 5850, don't really need it since its a dedicated folder. Still got my OC and folding once again, got lucky and picked up a 8103. Waiting for it to work a few frames so I can see TPF/PPD. TPF 13:37 PPD 339k after 3 frames, but still in the GUI so that may drop more. Here are a few pictures of the finished job, well I say finished I might make some changes later on, but I'm happy for now.

There be a "Folding Farm" in there Wolf...thanks for the pics! Yeah, I tried a GTX470 in my G34 at first and then had to admit that it served no purpose other than to draw more wattage. A Server just doesn't need a lot of graphics power due to the very basic things that are done with it. Glad to see and hear that it is coming together for ya!

Had a couple more pictures I meant to add with the video card in place and better view. But first would like to add a little clarification about the Tech Station, it wasn't made to order for me, but a pre-build for another setup of almost the same board, so the slit off on the one standoff was due to it being for a slightly different motherboard. Last pic is the type of 4P board it was built for. Just want to let everyone know it wasn't due to bad workmanship. Its a very well build Tech Station, Spotswood did a super great job with this. Donation is very much appreciated. Thank You Spotswood!

jinihammerer 4u is going to be too short if you plan on putting in after market heat sinks the 212's are almost 4u them selvs. You going to want about 10in of space for the AMD 4P. I can measure, if you want exact details.

cp256 I bumped the NbVid from 1.0500V to 1.0625V with TPC and HT retries haven't increased in the last 5 minutes.
I didn't realize you can adjust volt on non HE, SE or ES chips.
