I've been "looking" for an interesting convertible for local short trips ... cruise when the weather is suitable

I really like the body style of the 1967 Corvette convertible; especially with the big block hood, & I prefer the small block engine

Why the '67: disc brakes & dual master brake cylinder & time for Chevy to get the bugs out of the fiberglass body by '67

Museum & truly untouched "original cars" to sit in a garage are not my thing (or anywhere near my budget) .....

I want a "driver" or better yet a RestoMod with modern drive train & modern A/C

The prices I have seen online are impressive for '67 cars that are well worn ....

I have a fairly extensive mechanical background & am comfortable evaluating those things.  I have machined engine blocks & built gas & diesel engines professionally ... many moons ago

I do not do body work & though I have painted a car or two in my day ... this type of car would go to a pro if it needed repaint

So, I am asking the EVGA Forum community for help learning the ins & outs of the C2 Corvette specifically.

- What to look for .... fiberglass bodies on cars of this age ... what indicates expensive trouble ?

- frames .... what are the important clues to look for ... that says walk away or plan on replacing the frame

- how common is it, to need to replace the front & back wire loom of cars of this generation

- known weaknesses of any system of the C2

- Who makes replica - if anyone ? (I'm after the look - I am not a collector)

I've found places that make retrofit frames, modern suspension ....

Does anyone make a carbon fiber body ... replacement body ... how much weight does it save ?

The '62 Corvette body would be my second choice .. nice lines

I know everyone has "their favorite car" ..... lets keep this thread centered on the '63-'67 "C2" Corvette

I know everyone has "their favorite car" ..... Now this the ROUSH thread
EDIT: Title updated ... Now it is the ROUSH thread

Have you checked any of these:  https://customimagecorvettes.com/ or, https://www.kitcarlist.com/corvette-kits.html.  For engines:  https://www.summitracing.com/

I know you don't want to do a ground up restoration and this way would get you the look with the modern internals, i.e., a frame you won't have to repair/restore or straighten, rewiring, etc.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately with certain collectable vehicles, if you see "bargain", it means it will cost you twice as much to restore.

I wish you luck with this and you'll have to post photos when you complete it.

true original & collectable vehicles - I kind of under stand the big $$$$$

but once they change engine, transmission, rear or repaired damage to body, replace interior items ... why someone thinks it is still a collectable - that I do not understand.  Other than they want to see what the market demand limits are for top $.

I started my review of "value" with Hagerty as a sanity check

No rush on my part.   Ive got a reasonably health budget

Thanks again for the links .. took a quick look ... lots of toys

Wanted the convertible .... that was always a goal .... coupes are much easier to find

this is not a daily driver....  well over 710 HP ... Gen 3 Coyote engine, what is not to love ... got about 23 MPG on the ride home

I'm sure the MPG will drop with more spirited driving pushing the RPM

odometer  turned just over 5,000 miles on the ride home ....

ROUSH Stage 2 --> 750 HP upgrade ... though that is "engine HP" & not "rear wheel HP" ..

with a Ford 36m 36K miles factory warranty & ROUSH 5 yr 60K miles drive line warranty ...

more than enough power to have some fun .... many other cars make an advertised 800 HP to +1000 HP if you have the cash

there is a place an hour or so down the road ... I'll have to eventually check their rates to strap it to their dyno

no, but I found some really expensive Camaro ZL1 - Up to 1,000 HP | Hennessey Performance

& then there are the various Dodge Hellcat ... as long as your going in a straight line

ROUSH claimed HP & Torque ---> Produces 750 horsepower/670 lb-ft of torque

over 500 lb-ft of torque at ~ 2000 RPMs  = a fun ride & plenty of acceleration on street tires

I used to like old cars until I found out that the 67 Mustang convertible has the bottom of the truck as the top of the gas tank and the rear of the trunk is the back of the rear seats. I had the gas tank firewalled. It cost a bit of space in the trunk but worth it to not have the risk of a fire getting into the cabin of the car. Since then I started to really focus more on modern cars that have modern safety features.

Took two runs to DMV to get a temp tag today.   First run, they needed to see the car & confirm VIN - they gave me a permit to drive it without a Tag to DMV. So, drove home & grabbed the ROUSH for VIN inspection

I enjoyed the top down ride home .... having the windows up with the top down, makes a big improvement - buffers the noise from trucks, while on the main hwy
