Are we still waiting for a bio update in order to use the new 14th series intel CPUs? I have a Z690 Classified.

Glad someone said it. It’s a crying shame, but EVGA appears to be defunct at this point. I just disassembled my main rig for water cooling maintenance, and I’m considering swapping out my Z690 Classified for something else.

Man. What a huge bummer. Especially after they said they would do a bios update. :(. EVGA was always my favorite company for PC stuff. It’s sucks seeing what happened to them.

That it does. I’ve had the best experience with EVGA compared with other brands when it comes to support and RMAs. I’m still using a Z690 Classified, as I mentioned, as well as a 3080 Ti FTW3, and I have absolutely no idea who to go with when it comes to GPUs particularly going forward. Heck, I’ve been using EVGA cards exclusively since 2011. Oh well. First world problems I guess.

I hear ya. I’m currently using a EVGA PSU, GPU, Motherboard, and Keyboard. I’ve never used a GPU from another brand before. Eventually when I decide to upgrade I will likely go with ASUS now probably. From what I’ve read they are pretty good.

Ha! Forgot to mention my EVGA PSU(s). And as far as Asus is concerned, I’ve had bad experiences with just about every product of theirs I’ve used, and their RMA service is nothing to write home about. Personally, I may go with Gigabyte or MSI going forward. I’ve had issues with them or their stuff as well, hence why I went with EVGA, but nothing’s been as bad for me as Asus when it comes to PC components.

I feel the same, I’ve had EVGA motherboards for over a decade and GPUs for even longer. I have zero clue to who to be dedicated to next. One of these days the forums will shut down with zero heads up, and I won’t even be surprised. Pre-2023 EVGA will be well remembered and all the great people on these forums.

My bank is processing the charge back. I am even offering EVGA that I will pay for shipping the board back. I do not want this anymore and my 2 out of 3 of my bios chips are even defective/ PC refuses to boot. This is terrible.... First board had issues with the PCIE lanes not working in full bandwidth and now this.. I am done with EVGA begging them in the forums. Sent my bank all the evidence they need.

I think it's the old Intel ME that is the hang up here. I know that newer BIOS require newer Intel ME firmware, so we might just need to flash the updated Intel ME first in order to get it to POST. At least on Asus boards it will update the Intel ME when you do a newer BIOS update if required, EVGA doesn't update the ME with their BIOS updates. I was thinking doing the Intel ME update last night but got busy with other stuff.

I may need to go back and take a look tonight to see which microcode the BIOS attempt to load as default. Maybe it always attempts to load the newest for the CPUsignature B0671 and without the supported ME were hitting a show stopper.

looks like this ME version is compatible - 16.1.30.2264

Yea, I've personally decided to wait on updating the Intel ME until EVGA updates it on their own or the BIOS. Looking at the different BIOS switches it appears that Intel ME firmware does not change based on the BIOS switch. So it's stored in a different chip? I didn't know that, I always thought it was apart of the BIOS chip itself but apparently not. And given you can't downgrade Intel ME firmware, I don't want to be stuck with a non-reversible issue.

Do you have a link to that bios?

Ive been on a EVGA MB since my 780i board on 775, they were always well supported and rock solid, and of the 10 evga boards ive had not a single one died and held value, same with their GPU's, i have a still working eVGA TNT2 i use from time to time in a retro rig ( and at least 1 of every gen nvidia card since the Riva 128, still missing a geforce 256 and NV1 ) and more of evga's other product that i care to count ( its over 200 right now lol ) so i was a huge fan of their products and in my wildest dreams i never thought i would see this, once i swap my Z690 classy for a MSI meg ace my main system will be with out one single evga part for the first time since 1999 ( well i will still have the Z20 keyboard and X17 mouse ) it is a sad time for sure.

Yep. It’s a sad thing, but I saw the writing on the wall as soon as EVGA announced they were bowing out of the GPU game. I recently took apart my main rig for maintenance and cleaning, and I’m seriously debating putting back the Z690 Classified or something else. I’m still rocking a 3080 Ti FTW3 as well. Not planning on upgrading my GPU anytime soon, but… who the heck am I going to with when the time comes?

I've been impressed with the pricing and feature-set of ASRock (especially Taichi, Taichi Lite, and NOVA series) boards. I haven't looked at their BIOS in person, so I am holding back full thoughts, but I know a couple people who've been using them for a while now and so far I've only heard good things. Asus is overpriced and have had a lot of quality problems lately. MSI and Gigabyte have always been brands I treat like russian roulette. They might be fantastic...or not work at all. Yes, you could say that about any brand, but the not work at all or have never-ending issues is at a percentage-rate I don't want to take on myself. So that has led to ASRock, where I have only heard about issues with their ultra-cheap boards, which is also true of Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, etc. so I try not to hold that against them too much. I don't know when my next CPU (and motherboard) upgrade will be, but that's probably the direction I'm going to start looking.

That is so true about every brand. Asus is living off their name these days, and they just suck all around. I had an X99 MSI board that had dual BIOS, but somehow both modules bit the dust simultaneously within about 6 months of ownership. I wound up replacing it with an ASRock board. And, my Gigabyte Z390 Master crapped out due to a popped SSD controller capacitor.

I had a Gigabyte board randomly die 10+ years ago. My work rig has an MSI Z690, and it's been fine, but I haven't tried doing any wild overclocking with it. With the horror stories I've read about Asus, I agree they are just living off their name now. ASRock, I don't believe I've ever had any of their boards.

Time to go to Asrock I guess. Seems to be the least ''evil'' AiB especially after the recent ASUS thing however I expect to run my X570 Classy with 5950X for quite some time it still encodes pretty hastily.

Might even wait for Zen 6 or for what Intel cooks up.

RIP EVGA tho, always used their boards even if they recently lacked features compared to the competition while having that premium price tag, it was still worth it because of the RMA service and support.

I feel ya. ASRock may also be my go to for my next board, and like you, whenever that may be. I know EVGA wasn't a public company, but I wish they'd have sold it to someone or some group that appreciated it for what it was and would have wanted to carry on the legacy. The gist of what I heard as to why EVGA bowed out of the GPU game, and ultimately killed the company, was that Nvidia was screwing them over. I'm not sure how, or if it was any different than how they interacted with all the other brands/board partners. I just know that EVGA was well-known and well-respected within the community. Sucks when one person or just a handful have the capability of pulling the rug out from under everyone who supported and patronized them over the years. Oh well. Such is life. RIP EVGA.

Intel has finally addressed the 13th and 14th gen CPUs and they require a BIOS microcode fix to ensure the CPUs aren't damaged over time. Given EVGA sold these boards as supporting 13th gen, they have to provide this fix or they're not holding up their end of the bargain.

We can only hope? I'm very skeptical though. I won't be convinced this resolved the issue until it's been fully tested. Still another month to get the microcode update though :(

No thanks. I’ll keep my performance. The fact he states it only affects some processors makes it seem like a silicon quality issue to me. Glad my sample is a good one. Been running it at stock settings on the z690 kingpin for 1.6 years without issues.

Intel has finally addressed the 13th and 14th gen CPUs and they require a BIOS microcode fix to ensure the CPUs aren't damaged over time. Given EVGA sold these boards as supporting 13th gen, they have to provide this fix or they're not holding up their end of the bargain.

The fix may require new microcode, which in turn means a new BIOS revision, but EVGA boards are no longer supported except maybe through warranty/extended warranty in the event of a hardware failure.

Adding additional microcode to BIOS should be trivial task. Also depends what kind of obligations mobo manufactures have to Intel... since they are using their socket. There has to be some kind of agreement between EVGA and Intel to use their chipset and support their CPUs.

Looks like oxidation issues too for 13th gen which was fixed sometime in 2023. I bought my 13900k in Oct 2022 so guessing mine has an issue. I had to limit power and undervolt mine months ago to get it stable so guessing mine might have an issue, it's hard to say though as it also just runs hot as balls even under custom water cooling (when I say hot, it's relative, just hot for custom WC, but over 300 watts cpu and over 500w gpu can do that I guess).

I am curious what they will do for the microcode update though...would be nice to get a fix.

I also bought mine in Oct 2022. Mine is still working fine. Man I'm dodging bullets left and right.
