ty_ger07 When you say it "works", not properly, right? By default, the CPU has complex boost properties which are essentially built-in overclocking. Those don't work properly either, right? So, it behaves worse that it should, right?
thanks for your reply, I was referring more towards stability, so if it doesn't boost like what it should but is still able to function like a normal CPU with some minor compromise of performance due to the lack of support for all the newest boost features it should be ok temporary until evga officially releases the Bios (definitely not ideal tho)

I have my 14900k in my z690 dark and it functions just as my 13900k did.

My 14900K in my Z690 Dark boosts properly to 5.7Ghz all cores and 6Ghz 2 cores just as it should. The problem is that the default voltage/power is a bit higher than what it runs in other boards. And I can't undervolt/tune the chip down as low as my other Z790 Apex. But overall it runs fine, and I have not had any stability issues to speak of. Now that I patched in APO support, all I'm really missing is the updated Microcode and ME to ensure it's running 100% proper. Hopefully EVGA eventually provides that.

Awesome, thank you! this is great to hear, if that's the case I can live with this for the time being until and when Evga comes up with the official bios support for 14th Gen

As I have mentioned previously EVGA is aware of this needed update, but no ETA is yet known.

Talon2020 I think it's the old Intel ME that is the hang up here. I know that newer BIOS require newer Intel ME firmware, so we might just need to flash the updated Intel ME first in order to get it to POST. At least on Asus boards it will update the Intel ME when you do a newer BIOS update if required, EVGA doesn't update the ME with their BIOS updates. I was thinking doing the Intel ME update last night but got busy with other stuff. I may need to go back and take a look tonight to see which microcode the BIOS attempt to load as default. Maybe it always attempts to load the newest for the CPUsignature B0671 and without the supported ME were hitting a show stopper.
looks like this ME version is compatible - 16.1.30.2264

Yea, I've personally decided to wait on updating the Intel ME until EVGA updates it on their own or the BIOS. Looking at the different BIOS switches it appears that Intel ME firmware does not change based on the BIOS switch. So it's stored in a different chip? I didn't know that, I always thought it was apart of the BIOS chip itself but apparently not. And given you can't downgrade Intel ME firmware, I don't want to be stuck with a non-reversible issue.

Testing the 14900K in my dark I can confirm that auto settings work and your PC will boot on the 2.13 firmware, but overclocking is a stability... nightmare it will not work if you try, you cannot OVERCLOCK AT ALL. I mean at ALL!!!!! No cache, no cores, it screws with the voltage time tables I think causing stability issues... (you can mess with ram just fine) Just running the core at stock at ram at 6800 Mhz with tight timings Hynix Mdie. Stock 14900K can confirm works, but EVGA needs to hurry with this firmware update and at lease release a beta for it and then we can help their software engineers with diagnosing here on the forums if there is an issue
Leaving this here for those who are curious

I'm pretty sure all their BIOS team members have already left the company. I doubt we'll get another BIOS update now.

Sadly, I stopped caring since they also did. Wouldn't surprise me if who ever is left doesn't even know how to get to the community forums. Maybe I'm just being too cynical. It's been over a month now with not even a public reply after the fact. They had a great run, though.

i hate to say it because i want the update too but they never promised future processor generation support. z690 support was for 12th gen. so if you bought with a bad expectation, just do the chargeback if you're unable to return via normal channels. or eat it and move on. having said that, its ri-god-darn-diculous they aren't. hire some contractors and crank something out ffs. or release the source code and let the community do the work. its not like the proprietary code is worth anything anymore when the brand, assembled workforce (or lackthereof) and future sales are completely dead

What about post #6, page #1 of this thread? It's not a promise, but it is an implication. This is especially unfair for anyone mislead when buying a Z790 after reading EVGA's non-promising reassurance.

Between post #6 on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 1:52 PM and sometime after it's very obvious the bios crew was laid off. I'm sure the bios team had every intention to developed a new version but the CEO had other indentions.

Talon2020 I edited the BIOS for the Z690 Dark to enable Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology in the BIOS, and therefore Intel APO or Application Performance Optimization with 14900K for BIOS version 2.13. As it stands, this is not available in the default BIOS and therefore you cannot enable APO or use the required DTT driver. I used the Asrock Z790 Nova Intel DTT driver as all mobos are using a generic Intel driver package so can be cross installed. https://imgur.com/iSJMx2Z I tested Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, and it's working 100% like my Z790 Apex with 14900K. APO ON:
- Average Framerate (99th percentile): 176.03
- Max. Framerate (99th percentile): 272.78
- Min. Framerate (99th percentile): 97.92
APO OFF:
- Average Framerate (99th percentile): 150.81
- Max. Framerate (99th percentile): 231.70
- Min. Framerate (99th percentile): 94.0
Works a charm! Apparently were going to have to fix these issue ourselves going forward with EVGA completely MIA. Thankfully it appears we can at least fix some of the issues and get the big stuff working. I'm going to try and get the newest Microcodes added to the BIOS and flashable without brick like this fix. Unfortunately I am learning as I go and really have to rely on other peoples guides. Hopefully I can get it figured out.
Will the eVga Z690 Dark motherboard even post without this bios update?
