MrSmffy My new 980Ti currently sounds crazy under any FPS above about 60... Its a strange noise and pretty damn loud. I really don't want to go down the RMA route because draining and removing from my loop is going to be a right pain in the a*** What the hell is this noise then, 2nd PSU in shot for testing - defo the card?
My 980 Hydro has the exact coil whine, it's really bad when playing Project Cars in 4K...and now even web browsing, every time i open a new tab or watch youtube videos, the gpu would make a scratchy noise, like running your nails across a chalkboard.. my 970 SC has coil whine too, come to think of it all of my GPU made noises...the only one that didn't make noises was my 980 Reference card...

Once you have coil whine, you can't eliminate it. You can however reduce it by changing hardware in your PC. I would recommend changing out your PSU first. Back when I had a pair of R9 290X's I had zero noticeable coil whine when it was on my Seasonic X-1250 PSU. The person that bought them from me put them on a Corsair HX750 and the coil when was crazy. Later on they put it on a larger PSU and it seemed to reduce the coil whine quite a bit. I did have a pair of GTX 970's on a Corsair HX750 before I bought my Seasonic unit, they were definitely squealers, never did get to try them on another PSU before I returned them due to horrible SLI performance issues at the time. I've read that changing out things like the motherboard and other hardware can help as well.

December 2015 I bought a 980 and a few days later the coil whine was gone. Now my new 980 Ti sounds like the GPU in the following vid... can someone "explain" that to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4KBPRZb0L4 Btw, I have a 750 G2 and a Z87-Classified.

I have slight whine on my 980 Ti FTW but it's only under specific loads or if I'm at crazy framerates. I typically always use VSYNC which makes it go away for the most part.

That video was spot on. My 980ti Classy sounds that bad and worse under any type of gaming load. Doesn't matter what type of PS you run it on.....nasty, nasty sound. GF said get rid of it and go back to my 680 Classy if I can't resolve it as you can hear that scratching sound two rooms away when I am gaming on it. See what the RMA brings....sigh

While playing Skyrim today I noticed a great deal of whine.. did some checking found out about coil whine and thought what I had changed in the system. Played a few games and it only happened in Skyrim. I turned off DSR and it disappeared.. No more issue. Seems that Skyrim took offense to being in a 25?? X ???? res. Now all is well and silent.

Sorry to bump an old thread. Titan X SC - Yes very noticeable it seems like when GPU is over 45 percent load. Have frames capped at 70. Using ABS BZ Series BZ800. It is getting long in the tooth (since 2008) but seems to be powering everything great. I had a 7870 before it with no coil whine. The GT 7900 from xfx didn't have it either. Its killing me as with frames capped some games are really stressing it now. Don't want to buy a power supply if its not going to truly fix it.

1070ti sc gaming, yes it whines under load. never happened with my 1050ti. changed psu from corsair vs550 to evga 750 g1+ didn't help. only way to almost stop it is underclocking and limiting fps. in a couple months i'll be upgrading the mobo and cpu, will report of any improvements.
