I had the client flake out on me one time like that. Everything was greyed out and I couldn't do anything with it. I had to shut down, uninstall and reinstall to get it working again. I've been dead in the water for almost a month with MSI diddling with my RMA replacement 980. The other 980 is sitting here with a waterblock on it ready to go. I'm afraid to try folding with a single 680 but that's all I can use for now.

There have been a few problems with an empty GPUs.txt file lately, you can find more info on the Folding Forum:
GPUs not recognized and Empty GPUs.txt file

    Also a few useful links:
    - Information About GPUs.txt File
    - You can download the most recent GPUs.txt file here

Not only Windows 10, it was also a problem with Windows 8.1 Pro (edit: and also Win7 64-bit, so it looks like an Stanford issue?).

+1 Win7 64-bit. same issue. Uninstalling and reinstall [7.4.4] didn't work. Also reverted back to 7.3.6, with no joy.
    Thanks for the info Dutch!!

That worked great DutchForce, once I figured out where the file belonged. Win7 is in different directory. Thank you very much!

I just tried looking through FAH for the GPU list and its not even showing anywhere within FAH ??

I did find a changelog folder showing the 7.4.4 update
    v7.4.4:    * Fixed failure to update GPUs.txt file.  #1115
       * Don't delete slots on initialization error.  #1117
       * Always allow 127.0.0.1 (localhost) to connect to FAHClient.  #1120
       * Tweaks to Web control.  #1116
       * Don't display points for Anonymous or team 0

My pc is running Win7 64bit

That's odd that your GPUs.txt file was gone.
Usually the GPUs.txt file is located in the FAHClient Data directory ->  C:\Users\*Username*\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient

Just to be sure... you have downloaded the recent GPUs.txt file and copied it to your FAHClient Data directory, did you also exited/restarted the FAHClient.  And if there is no GPU slot(s) anymore, can you add GPU slot(s) manually ?

    Thanks to DutcForces info,
     Win 7, place GPU.txt file in: start>All Programs>FAHClient>Data Directory>GPUs   <<mine was blank when opened
Hope that works, I'm finally back to GPU folding.

Mine went wonky as well. Funny thing is the program directory had a good copy of gpus.txt - it was the data directory with the blank one.

I'll finally get my other 980 back from MSI on Wednesday at the latest and I'll be Folding with it. I'm keeping my eye on this thread and crossing my fingers hoping I don't have any problems when I start again.

Ya the GPU folder was in it's proper location just none of list of compatible GPU's "empty folder"

Was this caused by Stanford? I haven't folded for a while. Will this be an issue for me when I start again on Wednesday?

I think this only happens when the server, which is hosting this file, is overloaded when your FAHClient is updating the GPUs.txt file.
From what I understand, the NaCl Client is also running on this server and earlier this summer Prof. Vijay Pande already posted about this "overload" problem and replacing this server, see:  Problem with NaCl Client

To prevent getting an empty GPUs.txt file you could update the file manually.  Just download the recent file (make sure it's not empty) and copy it to your FAHClient Data directory.
I'm not sure how often FAHClient updates the GPUs.txt file, but my file was almost 4 weeks old before I updated it manually.

BTW, you can also find the location of the FAHClient Data directory when you go to the "System Info" tab (next to the "Status" tab, in Advanced Control) and then look what is listed as your CWD (Current Working Directory).  The System Info is also listed in the beginning of your log.

Hopefully this server will be replaced soon.

I think mine is in Users/Zuhl3156/AppData but I'll have to check. I'm patiently waiting for my 980 to be delivered and I will probably try Folding through the night just as a stability test. It's taken six weeks for MSI to get me a replacement board and I am getting nervous after the banged up piece of junk they gave me last time.

UPDATE: Mine seems to be intact with 77  KB of data in a txt file.

After I plugged the new 980 in I couldn't Fold because no slots were detected and I couldn't configure anything. My CPU wasn't even detected. I had to uninstall and reinstall the client before I could do anything at all. What does the client do, give each video board its own personal identity? I was Folding on a single 980 before I got this RMA replacement. The only difference in boards is the serial number.

You said that you've checked your GPUs.txt file in your previous post, but I think you did not update your GPUs.txt file manually.
Did you check your GPUs.txt file again after you've started the FAHClient and no slots were detected?
Did you also fold on your CPU before you had to stop folding or did you fold only on your GPU?

If you did not update the GPUs.txt file manually, then it could be that your FAHClient failed to update your GPUs.txt file after you started folding again after ~4 weeks and you got an empty GPUs.txt file.

Edit: changed the last sentence a little to make it more readable (sorry, english isn't my native language).

I didn't recheck the GPU.txt file. I just reinstalled the client. My CPU was loaded by default but I never Folded with it. If it happens again when I get the other 980 installed too I'll remember to check the GPU.txt file.

Just a little reminder: When you install your other 980 and want to fold on it, then you'll have to add another GPU slot manually, because the client will not add your other 980 (slot) automatically.
The client will only auto-detect and create slot(s) when you do a "clean" install (*see Edit).

Edit: If the client downloads the GPUs.txt file correctly.
