So I received an interesting email today from EVGA today:

Thank you for your request to Step-Up your graphics card! I am contacting you with some good news as we currently have availability on the GeForce GTX 1080 ACX 3.0 model 08G-P4-6181-KR, which is the model that you had originally requested for Step-Up. We would like to offer to move you through the Step-Up queue with the above mentioned model and have this step-up processed for you without any further delay.

I will be looking for your response to this email within 72 hours confirming that you do wish to switch to the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 ACX 3.0 model 08G-P4-6181-KR and have your Step-Up released from queue to move forward. Please understand that if I do not hear from you within 72 hours of receiving this email then we will assume that you wish to pass on this offer and leave your Step-Up unchanged and pending for the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC ACX 3.0 model 08G-P4-6183-KR.

Thank you for your patience throughout this process and for being an EVGA customer.

Sincerely,

Chris Bencivenga

If this is indeed legit, such a cool thing to do EVGA! However, I am a bit conflicted...

I figure I am already close to the front of the queue, having initiated my step up around noon PST (#255). My worry is this sudden stock of ACX models will just be failed SC chips (sad indeed) and it will OC like dirt.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

    Dear labeld,

I can confirm that I did send this email and that we wanted to offer the people in line the option of moving forward with the stock that we had available to assist.  If you would prefer to wait for the model that was offered then you are welcome to do this too, but I do not have a ETA available for you at this time.

Chris, are these new ACX cards SC fails? I know you do this with failed Classy cards, but I have never seen it done with the SC models.

What do you means by "fails"? They just give you an option, get your original choice of non-SC sooner, or get SC offered to you as a free upgrade a bit later. So that's the same SC cards as anyone else is getting.

Ya, I really came across as a total dick here...

EVGA offers Classified cards at the base price when the gpu fails to meet their classified standards.

I was just asking if these new ACX cards were just ones that didn't meet the SC standards. If they are just the regular non-factory OC versions and not denied SCs, I am gonna take their offer.

Again, this is pretty cool for EVGA to even offer this. Thank You Very Much!

Not necessarily. Some of them may have failed a bios test, but more than likely not. Many reference cards oc better than the higher tier cards, so your fear is just in your mind. Noone, not even EVGA, can tell you which cards had failed or if yours will overclock well. It's all silicon lottery.

Just a side note, failed FTW and Classified cards, known at DT cards, are not guaranteed they won't overclock. It is only guaranteed that they did not work with the evga/Nvidia approved bios.

Not necessarily, not 100% of the cards are tested at the SC spec, so it is possible that a ref card could meet or even exceed SC spec, but of course there are no guarantees. SC is guaranteed to run at at least the SC spec.

Quick question, are you guys from the UK? I've had zero emails from EVGA regarding my step-up for a 1080 ACX since I first entered the step-up queue on the release date. I literally have no idea what the hell is going on, other than reading people have been upgraded to SC version but I'm assuming I haven't seeing as no email has come through stating it. I'm fairly sure I was a sub 200 queue position when I was briefly able to see it on the Asia site before it was patched out (vaguely remember 170 something)

Any sort of answer or help would be great...

    I am in the US.

I went ahead and took the ACX 3.0 offer last night. I made it through step 3 and am now waiting for payment verification for step 4. Hopefully I will be able to ship my card by Friday and have the new one by the end of next week.

Oddly enough 5 minutes after I posted here, an email just informed me that I'm now at step 2 of the step-up process. Must admit I'm fairly chuffed but I did noticed that the model I'm stepping up to is 08G-P4-6183-KR, that's the SC model right?

Ok, card shipped and will arrive Friday afternoon.

Man, I waited over 2 months to go from step 1 to step 2, then go through step 2-5 in under 24 hrs!

Very excited now, and the hype is realz!

Congratulations. I signed up a little later in the day on the 27th and was around #537. Here's to hoping inventory will be shipped out a little quicker now.

I received the same email also.  But I do not mind waiting and am happy with my current step-up to the SC version.

Of course if EVGA were to offer to let me move to the ACX 3.0 FTW version I would likely jump at that one ;)

Update on this, I was #735 when last able to see it.  I got this offer yesterday and am accepting (one less in the SC queue for you guys!).  The base card should easily OC to the 100 extra Mhz of the SC.

I was in the 800's last I checked (when I could).  Received the offer as well...opted to stay with the 6183 SC.  I had an SC in my cart on launch day and when I went to check out...everything went crazy and I didn't get in again for almost a day...happy to wait.  Thanks for the offer, Chris.  You guys are great!

It was a tough decision to not wait, but people are overclocking the base card to 1950mhz without trouble.  That, and I already have a replacement mother board inbound, so if I can rebuild all at once rather than have to re-do cable management when the new card gets here that's easier for me haha.

Yeah...I am waiting for the new card so I can do a clean install of Windows 10.  Machine running fine, but I wanted to get everything done clean...been just a little over a year.  I can understand not waiting...but when I purchase the SC or FTW...I rarely overclock beyond what EVGA has set, anyways...so it is done for me...Best of luck to all...looks like the line is moving a bit...hopefully those waiting for the SC will see step 2 in a week or so...fingers crossed!
