god dang.   can anyone tell me how you are supposed to hit the PCIE release with this optimus backplate installed on a z690 kingpin?  I see what you guys are talking about.  its almost impossible with the stock HC backplate as it is.  This is terrible.  the kingpins shroud is right up on the slot so dang close.

I don’t have the z690 kingpin. I have the Asus Z690 Apex. The Asus has a button to release the pcie because of the huge heat sink on m.2. I guess Asus realized this would be an issue so they included this in their design. It worked well when I had the Optimus 3090 block installed. By looking at the z690 kingpin pics, there seems to be no way of releasing the PCIE clip. The heat sink seems to be similar in height as the Asus.

Riser cable and vertical mount is one way around it.

Or just pull off the lock.  Just be careful when moving it.

Just getting it mounted on the card?  Leak tightness issues?  Wouldn't say they're the easiest block to install.

Why not riser cable and vertical mount? That would be preferable to 8x slot - at least for benching.

imaging designing a kingpin waterblock that isnt compatable with the z590 dark or the z690 kingpin.

im using a core x9 that already has the mobo horizontal...  i would probably just need to change my entire case or something.  so stupid.

When the orders started for the KPE block I had asked Optimus that question about a half dozen times, as did a bunch of others, what the clearance would like and if it would fit a Z590 Dark with it's chunky heatsink.  I even sent them measurements and a picture of what the clearance looked like on my Z590.  No action on their part to confirm or deny that it would fit on a Dark board.  I took their radio silence to mean it would not fit and they would just prefer to leave it unanswered and have people buy the block to chance it.  I initially went Asus Apex with the Optimus KPE block, and it barely fit there.  No surprise it doesn't fit on the Dark.  And not surprised Optimus designed it without checking or at a minimum reaching out to let their customers know it's not compatible.  Optimus is going to have to do some real hard work and really change for me to want to buy a GPU block from them again.

Would this work? Looks like exactly what you need - as long as the GPU is well supported still. Basically lifts the PCIe slot up about an inch:

Won't be able to screw the video out bracket into the case though, right?  So would need some supplemental support.

Looks like it's a direct pin to pin connection, so maybe?  Worst case order and return if it's not.

Edit: and the questions:
Q: Will this work pcie 4.0? full bandwidth for pcie 4.0 gpu's?
A: Personally I've only used this with a 3.0 card and 3.0 slot and it works well but the product description does say it supports 256GT/s over 16 lanes which is 4.0 speed. see less

Yup would require some modding and added support, but it would lift the card & block up enough to get access.  Or get a different case and go with a riser and vertical mount.

Frustrating for you after all that waiting and expense, and then ..this happens.

well gaming last night i was getting a bunch of flickering so that means something isn't making good contact with the heat sink.  cant be too tight, or too loose, has to be just right.  i guess my EK torque screw driver is useless.

god I wish i would have just left the EVGA block installed.  it was really good enough TBH.

Flickering? But how are the temps? If the temps are okay or better than the EVGA block, than there could be other issues at play.

i have torn this block down three times and cannot get it to line up and seal even if I surrendered it to the bottom 8x slot or bought a new case with a riser.  There was a tiny gouge from the outlet right out of the box and I assumed it would seal but it really just wont.  Failed the airleak test in 5 minutes.
'''
Going to email Optimus and ask to return this.  what a terrible product.  To be fair, on the kingpin block page it states "EVGA motherboards dark/kingpin with large coolers not tested"......  but why?

It should say not compatible without a riser cable or something.  I am kicking myself for busting off that z690 pcie lock and removing my HC waterblock.  Even worse, I had a spare HC block I sold when the Optimus shipped.....   Seems I am on a roll here.

also note.  I am applying the screws with a vortex inch pound tourque screwdriver to ensure I am applying the exact amount of torque.  and not over or under applying pressure.n  ive also installed hundred of GPU blocks including quad SLI with backplates (which was easier)

at least they've guaranteed kingpin customers won't be pining for their "best in class" products going forward. i'll stick to xoc before i mess with their water blocks, that's for sure

you kinda have to laugh too bc this generation was clearly a poor design using backside mem chips that run so hot. so at least for the Ti and 40 series we should expect the clearance issues for blocks to be more manageable without active backplates

What’s not lining up exactly?
