Will these motherboards require new coolers beside what coolers are out now? They do look amazing though. Like the Dark really well.

It is a Different CPU Socket, so we will have to wait and see.
I think it would be pointless for you to upgrade from your Intel® Core™ i7-6950X Processor Extreme Edition at this time.

I agree going to wait for the i9 7980ex and see how the i9-7900x does when it's reviewed.

Ahhhahahahhhahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just read at PCPer:

7900X - 1000$ (10/20)
7920X - 1200$ (12/24)
7940X - 1400$ (14/28)
7960X - 1700$ (16/32)
7980X - 2000$ (18/36) Two Thousands  2000 USD

So long X299. I'm not that daft to even consider it*. Was hoping that i9 7900 will come at somewhat more reasonable** 800$, but noooo..... Let's wait and see what AMD brings to the table.

* - not saying never if some deal comes around
** - yeah I know, Intel and reasonable in same sentence is a perfect oxymoron.

I have been whining up a storm at the ugly butt I/O cover and heatsinks, RBG in general, in another thread. Thankfully there is the Dark. Unfortunately Intel is now the stifling culprit for the my upgrade timer. It is looking like I will investigate AMD a bit closer.

FINALLY X299 Motherboards That Don't Look Like A Rainbow!
EVGA X299 Series - Overclock X299 Like a PRO.

Hardware Canucks think that EVGA X299 Dark and EVGA X299 FTW are ready to go head to head with
ASUS Rampage X299 Series and GIGABYTE X299 Gaming Series.
What you think guys?

X299 Dark PCB look strong and build great, I look edges and leave impression of very well build board.
Such boards last years.
Imagine if someone is lucky enough to hit great sample of i9-7900x capable to work on 5.0GHz on watercooling on EVGA X99 Dark.
I would like that... 10 cores on 5.0GHz. That's 500MHz above Intel Turbo Boost 3.0.

EVGA have some guys here capable to build CPU waterblock but why not Monoblock for X299 Dark?
At least Monoblock for upper part, VRM and CPU, Chipset could stay cooled by Fan? Nice Idea.

Now recommended RIG for EVGA X299 Series for EVGA Fans.

Intel i7-7820X + EVGA X299 FTW + EVGA CLC280 CPU Cooler/Intel i9-7900X + EVGA X299 Dark + EVGA CLC280 CPU Cooler.

Watercooling on a non-soldered cpu doesn't make sense.
You will need to delid the cpu first, loosing the warranty of a 1000$ cpu ... only if you are brave enough.
According to der8auer the tools will be ready at the end of august.

I plan on making the jump from x99 to x299 since I didn't jump on Broadwell-E since my 5930k has been a strong contender.  more than likely will be going for the 10/20 this round though since selling off my 5930k will give me cushion towards spending $1000-$1200 (will be not as bad since I always go to MicroCenter for my CPU's).  Also I get to abuse my x99 Micro 2's MC protection plan to move over to the x299 Micro (trying to stay on the smaller side since the rig spends alot of time on the move multiple times a year)

No way for deliding my processor. Only if manufacturers of motherboard design some kind of CPU guard and than to install block directly on die.
Installation of IHS again is worse pain in process, in some cases IHS lose contact with die and temperatures are same or worse.
On some previous series people even sanded IHS inside. That's pure suffering. CPU I love to keep with two fingers remove from plastic container and install in socket, and our contact is finished. Later when CPU is safe and locked only contact with installation paste.
AMD Threadripper will be soldered, and Intel fans probably think that AMD will not OC so good, think that's their advantage, but they will be surprised how much Intel could go above Turbo 3.0, not much more than AMD Ryzen and Threadripper.

Difference in heat transfer between i7-5820K and i7-3770K is huge.
I had same cooler and I can say that hoter air is from cooler on 70C with i7-5820K than i7-3770K on 85C.
I had impression that it's very small difference between AIO and custom loop for CPU with thermal paste.
Processors with thermal paste shouldn't serve as models for testing quality of CPU coolers, they should be excluded.

Best temperature will be if block sit directly on die with just few grams pressure, only to touch die and thermal paste to serve for transfer.
Than temperatures will be better than soldered and delidded CPU. But without CPU Guard designed for that purpose that's even bigger risk than delidding and installation IHS.

I really like his take on this.  While I also believe companies can do as they may, we also have the right to vote with our wallets which is a missed point a lot of the times I feel.

Evidently the professional users and overclockers are getting together to make a video and talk about all of the flaws Linus' video has... hopefully they can shine some light on the truth behind the intel move.

The more information we have available to us, the more educated decisions we can make.  Flaws or not...he made some very interesting points.  Now it's time for the other side to voice their opinions and help us further understand.  Can never go wrong with too much information, in this case.

I liked it as well, shed some light on confusion I initially had when I was considering off loading my Z170 platform to my son and going x299, however I'm gonna have to keep that wallet closed till I see how this all unfolds.

he has valid points. the x299 chip its self is not really any different than the z270, which is fine. but the whole cpu thing is baffling, they should not support the Kaby Lake cpu if it's just a 1151 cpu with the video turned off, makes no sense as he stated to buy that chip when its not going to offer any benefit over a 270 setup. a 2066 cpu should have 24 pcie lane minimum with the m.2 or u.2 slots tied directly to those lanes.  im sure they will come out with a newer kaby lake based cpu with more features but to hamstring a high end setup with a weak cpu like this is just silly. im thinking that they just wanted it for optane and the 4k netflix streaming stuff.

ASUS just build first their motherboard with angled 24pin connector
ASUS Crosshair VI Extreme

No doubt that's full angled 24pin.
Why they didn't done that at least on Apex and Zenith.

ASUS this year have so strong motherboard line that MSI and ASRock no way to catch him.
Rampage VI Extreme - X299
Rampage VI Apex - X299 so attractive for me
ROG Zenith Extreme - X399
Crosshair VI Extreme - X370

ASUS Rampage X299 Apex is reall LN2 board... only 4 DIMM slots and 2x 8 pin for CPU and now keep some world records.
Apex have something attractive maybe even more than Rampage Extreme...

Same as the Dark 4 DIMM slots and EVGA always has 2x8 pin for CPU on there high end boards. I believe KingPin and Tin had something to do with the design of this board.

Where did you see the detailed specs for each motherboard? Will evga start releasing FULL detailed specs about it's motherboards or will they continue to gloss over them in the so called "spec sheet". I bet both mobo will have similar overclocking results (real world results). What will matter to most people is features each motherboard offers and how stable it is.

It's not fair, why they didn't launch Rampage VI Extreme with angled 24pin.
Because they want to launch Black version and cause people to suffer because they didn't wait.
And I never like to upgrade platform so late.

I believe KingPin and Tin had something to do with the design of this board.

I believe they did as well.

K|ngp|n and T|n design dark motherboards, so yes.

Thanks for the clarification.

Where did KingPin and T|n get their engineering degree at?

No doubt EVGA X99 Dark is insane board.
For me is 4 DIMM slot is not problem at all because I'm not ready to pay so much for DDR4 and I can't even use full potential of 4 DIMM slots, that's 4x16GB. I will go on 32GB, 4x8 GB, 3200 MHz.

Beautifull board no doubt, one of nicest EVGA boards.

OHHHHH!!!!! Joseph out of left field! LoL!

Seriously though, you can view the videos on youtube and look at Kingpin cooling forums and see all of the insane stuff that T|n makes for K|ngp|n. Vince knows what works best for overclocking and T|n knows how to make it.

The most recent video at computex (or whatever show it was), Vince talked about how they helped design the x299 dark and the 1080ti K|ngp|n, and then went on to say that this was their second time designing a motherboard and their fourth K|ngp|n card.

I just want to tell that X299 Dark and 1080Ti K|NGP|N are complete because K|NGP|N and Tin work on them.

ASUS Rampage X299 Apex is reall LN2 board... only 4 DIMM slots and 2x 8 pin for CPU and now keep some world records.
Apex have something attractive maybe even more than Rampage Extreme...

i was just looking at that board, that thing is sick looking and asus always throws some extra stuff with their top end...

None of the Asus boards have the extra six pin on the pci-e lanes for extra voltage. Still leaning towards the EVGA Dark it just looks mean!
