The FTW K looks like a sweet board however, the spectre of having to buy a CPU as well may put upgrading on the back burner for a while

I generally buy the flagship MOBO from EVGA when it is offered.  However, according to the video, I'm not too keen on that glossy, fat PS3, piano black shine.  I like the photo in this thread as it looks like a matte black non shine color.  It's not bad, but it sorta looks out of place on the board.  I do have to give EVGA props on the gold accents to the PCB of the X299 Dark.  It's a classy look that I've not seen anywhere else.

Here you can see the effect of the leds in the FTW-K:

Note that leds are RGB, so you can change the color.

Seems like RGB is the way to go this time around. What else is left to RGB?  PSU? CPU?

PSU. Looking at the numbers, it seems a 750W Gold model.

I just saw another companies MB and it looks way better than this.  I know a handful of people were screaming for "Dark" boards.  I think too many of the same people created a big hype about it when I don't think there was such a massive demand for them.  I think they should have stuck with more RGB as the competitors surely have as their boards look way better.  If EVGA goes head to head with them in price, they will be a laughing stock.

I am really liking the X299 FTW K model.  RGB looks classy and now just have to wait to see what Intel's pricing will be for the processors.

    I have only one question:

Can you remove the fan and M.2 shroud from the DARK without affecting functionality (radiator chipset)?

No way I will ever pick a motherboard with a fan on it. That's just anatema. At least bottom part is not connected with heatpipe with VRM section.

The motherboards look very nice. Kind of like the RGB on the FTW model.

As for the Intel models the price kind of makes sense when you consider the increase in core and threads. I wonder what would stress that CPU out since it is a beast.

So if I get the X299 FTW-K and I wanna run 2x gtx 1080's in SLI + a NVMe SSD, which PCIe socket gets shut down so that the SSD can be installed? Is is socket P3 that gets sacrificed or does the SSD get its own lane bandwidth this time?

My aim is to run both gtx 1080ti's in x16 with a creative ZX sound card in the above pcie x4 slot then an NVMe SSD under the top pcie x16 slot. Would that be possible

Never understand the design decisions EVGA make for their hardware. Feel like they need to create a team within their company to facilitate consistency of design and what they're going for.

Recently, theres a huge disconnect with the designs of half the stuff.

The Ti cards have quite an ugly appearance, where the 1080's were beautiful. The DARK board here uses a gloss black which looks pretty horrendous and the Silver-RGB webs on the FTW K boards is a bit odd. Theres a cyborg look to the Kingpin edition that doesn't carry over. And on the FTW cards theres no choice but to have it BLUE.

Very confusing, people want choice for RGB and gloss black should have disappeared with old LCD monitor shells!
The naming policy confuses me too, top end boards used to be called CLASSIFIED, now its DARK, then theres FTW FTW2 FTW3 then no CLASSIFIED CLASSFIIED x99 board but no others.

I dunno if there was a demand for them, but as I stated before the Dark board looks somewhat weird.  It's like the EVGA design department had a bad day and said "<Insert expletive here> this, just slap black Nerf armor on it and a fan. Done."  The FTW K isn't too bad, at the very least the irregular honeycomb pattern of the RGB matches the shroud of their latest GPU offerings.  I may still opt for the Dark board later this year.  That is due mainly to my case having a dark tinted glass panel.  However, for those people out there with clearer panels, I'm getting the vibe from this thread that people will forego the Dark and stick to the FTW K model because it's more appealing aesthetically.

I really like the design of the FTW K. The RGB leds kind of recalls the 1080ti's shroud but i'm not considering an i9 processor with those prices.

I talked it over with the missus.  I'm in the stupid more money than brains club.  I'm going all in for the i9 7980XE CPU and platform.  One condition, I have to give her my i7 5960X PC rig.  DEAL!!!

    Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
