I'm forecasting the 4080 for ~September of 2022, not this year.

Agree, there will be no 40xx series until there is incentive to produce it.  Between the demand for the 30xx series, AMD's GPU situation and widespread COVID immunization looking at late 2022 into 2023 I can't imagine seeing a 40xx series anytime sooner than September 2022 and possibly kicked to 2023.

there's not necessarily demand for 30-series specifically. just demand for new cards in general. if the 40-series were released, the demand would shift to those instead. people will want what is newest.

Agree. But that’s still incentive for nvidia to delay bringing the 40 series to market. Shifting demand from one card to another doesn’t help them sell more cards. Might as well save the 40 series (or even the 3080Ti) until they can meet demand for the existing 30 series skus.

unless, production and yield for 40-series ends up being a lot better and they can produce them faster than 30-series and it becomes easier to fulfill demand.

but that's probably wishful thinking.

On a somewhat related note, pertaining to PSU needs for the 3080 specifically, I noticed someone mentioning recommending a 850w PSU.
Eh.

750w is more than enough to keep you in the good power range of a gold rated psu for even the craziest 3080 uses. 3090 not sure but probably still within that sweet spot of 60-80% usage.
TLDR if you're going to spend more money on a PSU, first upgrade from bronze to gold rating, then go up in wattage. Unless you're running multiple overclocked gpu's AND overclocked top end processors, even a 650w is going to cover you for 90% of your usage, but might as well go 850 to never think about it again.
There's plenty of reasons to go with higher wattage psu's, but for most users running a 3080 with some lightweight OC going on in their systems, you're really not going to realistically draw more than 500-600w from your system, so an 850w is just kinda pointless.

For the record, I've worked with building computers for videogame dev companies for the past 10 years. There's plenty more qualified people than me to talk about this stuff but I have a good gist of what I'm talking about- Feel free to counter me though, if you have better knowledge :)

New 3080 and 3090 have a tendency for huge current draw surges which have shutdown less then high/perfect quality psu aka half of gold rated and up
A
Edit-and it seems to be better for 850 watt vs 650/750 as far as handling the surges due to more available power inside psu

There are a number of threads on this issue and it seems that a critical element of the PSU is the ability to handle transient power spikes irrespective of rated wattage or efficiency.  For example, the GA series at 750/850 W has been troublesome even though these are Gold rated for efficiency.  A few members are passionate on this topic so I'm not going to pretend to be an expert here, but I recommend checking out those discussions ... they can be very entertaining on a seemingly dry topic .

It is all about what is available and at what price.  I touted a seasonic focus 850 watt at Best Buy for 140. Yeah they have the seasonic focus 750 watt at  Best Buy for 120.  But for 20 bucks more why not have the extra juice.

At the moment evga has a gold  750 watts for 130 and there is the associate code so it would be maybe 117.
I would still prefer the extra watts. I get Best Buy discounts so the 850 would be about 126

I would rather Evga's 850 plat model but sadly it is sold out. I am all set to build the rigs for two friends just need 2 gpu's My birthday is in about 4 days would be nice to get a card or two someplace.

I only buy EVGA power supplies. I can use the cables with any supply, as long as they are in the same family. I do have 15 power supplies though, so for me, it is more important than for most people. Never had an issue with EVGA. In the past I have had issues with other brands.

They are good, but I build a lot of pc's and I can not get them.

The 1600 watt all sold out.
The 1300 watt all sold out.
The 1200 watt sold out.
The 1000 watt all sold out.
The 850 watt all sold out.
The 750 watt all sold out. except for a very low end model

All good corsair models are being resold on amazon at 2x the price.

To find a quality 1200 watt psu at msrp at this moment is next to impossible.

So I ended up getting a 3987 from Microcenter a month ago today.  I have had some serious buyers remorse over the cost because I initially wanted a 3898.  I've hoped and waited for the last month that my time would come up in the queue. but alas it has not.  I'm torn as to whether I should leave myself in the queue and wait for the 3898 or just keep the 3987.  In my own mind I have justified it numerous times, telling myself that if I really wanted that 3080 soggy, I would pay just as much to a scalper as I paid for the 3090 FTW3 ultra.  I wish things were different.  I wish everyone could get the card that we want. But, here we are, sadly.   I wish all of you the best of luck and my your time time come sooner than mine.  I am removing myself from the 3898 queue. I think I will leave myself in the 3988 queue for now, until my trade up time has expired at least.

So if the 3898 continues at this rate I'll get it in 18.5 months, I think. Sweet! 🥲

Right around the time the 4080 is launch, noice. lol

Considering how nvidia is milking it beyond insanity. I do not think the 4080 will be even be out this year lol.
I mean, 2060's are out again at a price higher than 3060's...

I'm forecasting the 4080 for ~September of 2022, not this year.

Nvidia can take as much time as they want. If AMD manages to get  the chiplet design based gpu out first then  they will cruise ahead. Then Nvidia will find themselves in same position as Intel is today.

Ugh... I just pulled the trigger on an Asus TUF 3090 from Amazon... am I going to regret this? I've just wanted a 3080 but I'm getting tired of the seconds of movement on the 3080 hybrid queues when I'm minutes away. Maybe I have some time to get lucky with EVGA before the Amazon backorder gets fulfilled. Thoughts?

Should be earlier than that. Now that the 3080 FTW3 Ultra queue is through 9/17 and 9/18, it should start to move faster until it hits 10/5.

Ok I have a dumb question, going to upgrade to a 3080 hybrid and I know my 850 w will be more than enough, however I need a second gpu to run my extra monitors. Question is can an 850 handle it?

Pc specs are:
I7-7700k @ 4.7ghz
Asus Maximus ix code
32 GB ram @ 3200 kHz
Gtx 1080 ftw evga
Gtx 980 sc evga

I'm by no means an expert on the topic, but my understanding is that you probably don't need to run a super powerful GPU for additional outputs. That said, there is a bit of headroom using an 850w PSU with a 3080. I'm not sure if one of your listed GPUs being used as additional outputs would draw so much power that it would have issues.

But maybe someone else with more experience in the matter can answer this better.

It's really hard to gauge this as we have no idea if the supply is getting better and if EVGA is going to put more 3080 chips into the hybrids before that time.

How many monitors do you have?
I'm running a double one since my 1070 and now a triple one with my now sold 2070S (3080 now).

Your video card should be able to run all monitors on all outputs with no issue (thats 4-5 depending on the model).
If you game on a single monitor also should not be an issue.

But if you game with multimonitors (surround). yeah, you even a pair of 3090 might not be enough for the added resolution, specially if you play beyond 4k in last gen games.

So uhh, I run 6 monitors, and it's not for surround, I code so I found that 4 monitors are amazing to have, another for some form of media, and then a tv when I wanna just relax on the couch and play with a controller.

Is the fact that the 3885 are not moving just because it is so popular and the queue is backed up so it appears to not be moving? Because that is the closest one I have to being in queue at 10/17 and I haven't seen it moving since I started following this thread a week and so ago.

I would look at a 1000w p2 or t2 if you can find it, whats your specific 3080 model you getting? XC3 or FTW3?

Ok I have a dumb question, going to upgrade to a 3080 hybrid and I know my 850 w will be more than enough, however I need a second gpu to run my extra monitors. Question is can an 850 handle it?

Pc specs are:
I7-7700k @ 4.7ghz
Asus Maximus ix code
32 GB ram @ 3200 kHz
Gtx 1080 ftw evga
Gtx 980 sc evga
850 w gold evga

Then you should have no issues.

Is the fact that the 3885 are not moving just because it is so popular and the queue is backed up so it appears to not be moving? Because that is the closest one I have to being in queue at 10/17 and I haven't seen it moving since I started following this thread a week and so ago.

I've been playing close(ish) attention to this thread starting around the 1st of the year. Has hardly moved at all this year. It's my closest, I'm only 20ish hours way, but expecting to see my email in 2-3 months the way it's moving.

I would look at a 1000w p2 or t2 if you can find it, whats your specific 3080 model you getting? XC3 or FTW3?

You can buy a Super Flower Leadex 1000 Gold at Newegg for $250.

I have a 5 yr old EVGA G2, 850 Gold, which is a rebadged SuperFlower Leadex. It has run flawlessly for 5 years and is still going strong. I bought it because it had good ratings and the lowest ripple of any PSU at the time. Newegg also has a couple of SuperFlower Leadex models at 1600 w, but they are $430 for the Platinum and $500 for the Titanium. I don't know if any of the current EVGA PSUs are made by SuperFlower. I heard that EVGA switched to another supplier to save money after the tariffs were imposed, but don't know for sure that that was the reason.

Super Flower Leadex V Gold PRO 1000W 80+ Gold, Smallest 130mm 1000W ATX PSU, 10 Years Warranty, Patent Super Connectors, Full Modular With Ultra-Flexible Flat Ribbon Cables, FDB PWM Fan, SF-1000F14TG+ $50 off w/ promo code MKTZHTRX, limited offer

$249.99 Sale Ends in 3 Days (Mon) -Free ShippingShipped by Newegg

As long as you're only gaming on the one GPU (3080) when you do game, it shouldn't matter, the secondary GPU will never be pulling more than 30-60W even if you have multiple monitors running on it (which causes the GPU to not downclock fully at desktop).  So an 850W shouldn't be an issue.
