-EDIT-

I was wrong. They're both folding the same protein. So I goofed up somewhere. Let me know what you think.

-END EDIT-

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is bad or not but when I run WinAFC after all configuration and everything I get this message:

6/5/2010 3:38:46 AM: WARNING elevatePrivileges: Cannot elevate privileges to handle affinity for processes running under other user accounts.

I don't know if that's supposed to happen or not and if it's really such a bad thing. I was trying to set up multi GPU folding. It *seems* like it's working. Both GPU's are being used and it looks like they have different problems. I'm not sure how to fix that.

Some info:

Intel i5 - 750
2 EVGA 9800GTX+ in SLI.

I'm not sure what the issue is, if I have one at all. I followed all your steps exactly except the extending the desktop part. I'm running Windows 7 and my drivers are above what you said. So it was my understanding I didn't need to do that step.

Let me know what you think.

Re:Multi GPU guide with WinFC 2010/08/09 21:36:55 (permalink)
Not having much joy. New folder here. I had already been running a single instance of folding GPU and one of folding CPU. I am using NVidia driver 258.96 and I've gone through the guide here..

I ran through ok to step 9, then I ran WinAFC (ran as administrator just to make sure), and got a yellow message saying something about no valid application profiles and then auto-pausing. Ok fine, I closed that window (had to right-click and close in task bar or exit via systray to close it), then went step 10.

When I edit the affinityinput file in notepad, I try to save and get told access is denied. **** I'm the only user on this PC and have full admin rights.. what gives?

I am thinking that possibly because I've been running GPU folding on here already with just one card, it might be a problem. I am going to uninstall everything I can find of GPU folding and start again from scratch and see what happens (it just finished a unit)...

..edit: I wonder if I should let the CPU folding finish the unit it's doing first as well, then uninstall that too... hmm..

To edit the affintityinput file, you must start notepad as administrator, I'm not sure exactly why, but you need to. Also, anything that is running the WinAFC is going to set affinity or priority on needs to be shut down before WinAFC is started.

I am guessing winafc is still runnning when you edit the profile?  If so try exiting winafc(right click/exit icon in systray), and then editing/saving the profile file.  Just closing the popup terminal window(autopausing text window)does not exit winafc.

When I right click affintityinput file, there is no option to open as administrator (if there should be). I'll open notepad as admin first, then file>open from notepad to get to the affintityinput file.
I definitely had WinAFC shutdown after running it.
Is the message I got in yellow what I am supposed to get (auto-pause etc)?
Will the fact I still have CPU folding already installed effect this installation?
Thanks for the prompt responses!

I get the autopause message when I start up winafc before starting any clients.  If you are already running a client when starting winafc, and get that message than it is not finding it.  Double check your path and name(in seetings text file) matches your file location(of folding clients).

Aha try saving the file under a new name and see if that works the affinityinput.txt maybe be read only to protect your original file.

I also already had the both gpu and cpu clients installed when I installed winafc, so that should not be a problem.

Was able to save the affinityinput ok, then I went thru step 11 no problem.. do I need a passkey btw? Never did before..

OK I had to open links from desktop as admin as well.. now they are both  running! YAY!

Now step 14.. it says, "Now to setup Fahmon to see the GPU clients. Open Fahmon, right click in the white area of the window and click on "Add a new client"."

what is fahmon? Do I need it.. both GPU clients are running now.. doh and my cards are getting hot, lol..

Oh nevermind, google is my friend..

"FahMon is an open-source tool (GPL license) that allows you to quickly check the progress of your Folding@Home client (or clients if you have multiple), avoiding you having to open different files and/or to go to the Internet (for example to know how much your current work unit is worth). Other monitoring tools exist (such as Electron Microscope or FahLogStats), so if you don't like FahMon, have a look at them!"

Don't really need it right now. Thank you for the help.

Top card peaking at 80°C, lower card at 70°C. Wish EVGA would drop the GTX 285 water block price already lol.
