it's kinda useless to see a video here so small...

Is this the kind of experience IW wanted to give us with IWNet?

IW new system has already failed to keep hackers out, they can play the cracked version on IWNet system. I bet everyone that paid $60 is glad they gave you the option to votekick... oh wait they didn't think it was needed.

That is a dedicated server. the game has been cracked by a very crafty programer,

And to think not only a year ago we all were praising about how much we loved  IW for COD4 when Treyarch came out with COD:WAW. now WAW kicks butt and IW does crapp like this. im so looking forward to Treyarch's new release next year. they really have the opportunity to be the COD series on top and put IW behind us!

I wouldn't get your hopes up on Treyarch's new release next year, it was Activision who told IW not to support dedicated servers. Unless Activision see's the mistake they made i bet Treyarch version will have the same IWNet system.

Oh i thought it was IW that made that desicion to f**k us all.

I is very tempting but I think I'm going to keep fighting until Iw does something or bc2 comes out. there is a post release petition, it probably wont do any good but I figure hell why not, and once again I only signed once.

Yeah, I think I'll hold out till I see IW patch and correct the server and lean issues and maybe a grovelling apology written in Activision blood  muuhhhaaaa.
If they don't as you say there is BC2.  Really looking forward to that.

I sent a snide remark to @fourzerotwo via twitter, asking him if he's happy about the modders doing what his people neglected to do.
I wonder if he'll just block me, or if he will actually reply

This game is not worth it with out a dedicated server. The campaign only takes about 5 fives hours, and all the fun lies in multiplayer...

I think I am closing in on 30 hours of playtime on the mp, yes I would have preferred dedicated servers but it is still one of the most enjoyable games I own. But the $10 price increase was not justified.

Fry's had the game for $50.

Yeah, I'm very much so enjoying the MP action as well. Again yes I'm pissed about the dedicated servers, but it's still a fun game.

It's called welcome to the console world, unless more people complain about this kind of treatment it will continue, paying $60 for a game that lacks features the last version came with is nuts. I bet they do try to charge PC players for the locked gamemodes just like they will console users.

There are few developers that can put together games of this quality. For every great game that comes along there are 20 worthless games. Sure, MW2's "full potential" was lost and some expectations were not meet, but its a great game by today's standards.

The point is they have talent and there is no reason to try and boycott or punish them. Why hurt the guys who produce the "1 in 20" powerhouse titles? Its childish and hurts the gaming community.

MW2 is a powerhouse title? By who's standards?

Seriously? The worlds standards.

Modern Warfare 2's launch was the biggest in game history with an estimated 4.7 million sold on the first day in North America and UK.

Well, for one I'm not boycotting really.  I just don't want to pay this much for a console game on my PC and a lame 9v9 player count. I would think that's the best message to send Activision. As far as the game standards go, I love how there is never any distinction of the game between the platforms. Of course it's going to be a huge success because the console players have nothing to complain about. Even the interview with IW bragged how the developers were gamers and how much fun they had playing it, but never gave a distinction of the console/PC and what kind of gamers they were. Just like the game, consoles and PC are treated the same. Worlds standard for consoles-yes, but that's below my standard. Console gaming sucks IMO.

the multplayer is .. kinda a joke, 6v6 on small maps, maybe a downgrade,  IW controls it all.  the single player was fun though. I bought it on PS3 and it connects better than PC. playstation network runs good. but still a 6 on 6 game.

I wonder what Activision wins at all with the removing of dedicated servers, they could be making more money with them.

To be honest the PC version seems like a big fail to me. No, i don't own MW2. There will be a cold day in hell before i give my hard earned money to the greedy and ignorant folks over at IW. They've showed us that they don't give a rats a** about the PC community. I'm not gonna lick any boot that just kicked me in the face. I truly hope IWnet collapses.

hasn't one of the activision crowd been quoted saying he likes the mmorpg business model, like WOW.  So I can see activision eventually having a monthly charge for playing cod.  Think of all the people playing cod4 online for the last few years and activision only got a one off payment, i.e. the purchase of the game. They'll make a hell of a lot more money without dedi servers if people subscribe.

People won't subscribe like they think, i don't see a system like that working in the western market on the PC. You will see a crap load of private servers if they did try that on the PC. I don't know how they could pull it off on the console when any file over 8MB is considered DLC.

Next few years we will see BattleField 3 , Counter-Strike 2 and other FPS games so i wish them luck getting PC gamers to pay a monthly fee to play Call of Duty online. They going to offer people a WoW pet if they subscribe to Call of Duty online lol.

Ok, so your definition of "powerhouse" is that it had big sales. I guess them gutting the PC version and charging everyone more for it is justified then.

Your a big boy and I don't need to create a detailed post listing everything they did right. Once you get past the failed expectations I'm sure you'll see why MW2 sold so many copies. Its a solid game.

The gaming industry grew to the point where the workers don't always run the show. A billion dollar industry has a tendency to draw-in execs/owners/publishers who's only concern is profits (go figure). These guys care more about their new Mercedes than dedicated servers, and they run the show and they want games published asap. MW2 wasn't the first or last game to suffer because of it.

Think about this next part.

Would the actual MW2 designers (the gamers at heart) want dedicated servers for their creation? Why do you think they didn't get it? Who really made the decision? Who was most likely to suffer from a boycott or lost sales?

I think that's the answer, competition. I think a lot of people were sucked into buying MW2 on the PC end because it had COD4 as a selling point. Not as many people are going to make the mistake twice so, time will tell. Either Activision will up the ante because of competition or run off with there tail between there legs to go play console games. I think it's going to be like this, there are a mass production of cars like Toyota (consoles) and then there are Ferrari's (PC),  PC games may cost more then console games in the future, but they better be a better game for the money.

@MSim  I really hope your right, but how many of us would have believed that IW would cut out dedi servers before the announcement.  DLC will no doubt be added to MW2 for the consoles, it most likely will be for pc users too, at a price, just like expansion packs for WOW.  The next logical business step would be to bleed gamers dry with subscriptions.  The constant massive income from WOW and the like must have game producers panting.  I think they will try, whether they succeed is a different question.  Hopefully not.

On a different note, not only gamers have noticed the coming of MW2.  Clicky.  Enjoy the read and yes it is from a serious broadsheet.
